for anyone wondering the area between y_1=2-x^2 and y_2=-x is 4.5 You have to finde the cross sections at first so 2-x^2=-x, solve for x and you'll receive x_1=-1 and x_2=2. Then you have to integrate the upper function(its the y_1) between -1 and 2 and subtracting the lower function (the y_2) between -1 and 2. The integral Y_1 of y_1 is 2x - 1/3*x^3 so Y_1(2)-Y_1(-1)=(4-8/3)-(-2+1/3)=6-9/3=3 The Integral Y_2 of y_2 is -1/2x^2 so Y_2(2)-Y_2(-1)=-2-(-1/2)=-3/2 Y_1-Y_2 between the cross sections at X_1=-1 and X_2=2 is 3-(-3/2) is 4.5
