"I am Apollo" "And I am the Tsar Of All The Russias"

Apparently Chekhov was only added for sexual appeal to young women and teen girls, so it's hilarious how everyone just went, "Baby? Baby boy. He is baby." XD
@maramackenzie-mann7 ай бұрын
Its rather hard to beat Kirk and Spock in the sex appeal contest but they had room for Baby of the Enterprise.

If I recall part of the problem was just when they aired it. Most of the people who would have loved it at the time were already in bed, but thankfully they did reruns at a better time and we did get the cartoon to serve as a sort of additional season or two.

Yet ironically he is only 5 years younger than William Shatner according to Walter Koenig himself and he had to wear a wig because his hair was thinning even back then! I always wondered why his hair looked weird in the series and now I know why...

Chekov was originally written as a terrible silly cliche stereotype of a russian... It was Walter Koenigs genius as an actor to interpret Chekov as a kind of jackass, no Chekov was not at all stupid, cliché or stereotype... he was just fucking with people, and Koenigs fantastically paced overacting made that fun and work perfectly which could have been disastrous (looking at some certain recent trek with shallow stereotype chara ters... jst btw).
@nancyhey101211 ай бұрын
That’s true, it would have been terrible to make him a stereotype. In fact it was good to try to break all of the negative stereotypes that most people had of Russians during the height of the Cold War. Checkov’s unique sense of humor was to brag about Russian inventions that were false, to get a rise out of people. But he never mentioned any of the real Russian inventions, and there are quite a lot of them, including the periodic table of the elements.
@chindleymuffin3 күн бұрын
It's also quite funny to realise that he does actually have Russian heritage in his family, he is genuinely a descendant from a Jewish Russian family. His father was accused of being a Communist when Walter was very young and was ostracized, apparently it had an effect on Walter's perception of his father, although he still loved him dearly.

Srsly, what was going on w/ Checkov's hair when he first appeared on the show? 😆 TRIVIA FACT: WAlter Koenig was hired because he looked like Davy Jones from The MOnkees & I guess they felt that he could draw in more of a female demographic.
@chindleymuffin3 күн бұрын
Walter Koenig wore a wig in the show (as his hair was already thinning at the time), which apparently changed several times during the second season, I think I remember he said he had 3 wigs in total. They wanted to make him look like one of The Monkees, as that show was HUGE at the time, but it changed going forward.

People complain shows have become too woke with cases being 'too diverse' and making it obvious they're trying to be woke. Yet Star Trek had actors of such varying descent and first interracial kiss on television over 50 years before the woke movement started.
@john-ic5pz3 ай бұрын
interracial relationships and diverse ethnicities isn't "woke". woke is the virtue signaling of the terror of straight white men and the power of intersectionality/victimhood; that race and heder are social constructs but THE most important ones to exist... lol really, if gender is a construct, why are pronouns so triggering since it's all an illusion of subjective perception? .I haven't met a "woke" person who can answer that
