It's always funny how going into a bath is the worst moment in a dog's life, but coming out and running around the yard to dry off is the most wonderful time for a dog. They crack me up.

Had a female for 15 years who hated baths loved to swim and was totally convinced Humans Could not swim and when ever we went swimming she would jump in and try to save every one in the water .

This was hilarious. We had a 70# Great Dane / Lab mix that we found at age three - already set in his ways. We had to trick him to tie him onto the clothesline pole to wash him with the hose. Forget winter baths - canned foam shampoos only lol. Our next dog was an Akita that topped off at 90#. I trained him for the tub from the day we got him as a pup, using treats, By the time he was 6 mos old, all I had to do was say 'in the tub'. He would jump right in, get his treat, and let me lather him up and rinse him off. I even had him trained to shake on command. What a difference! :)

We had a German shepherd who hated bath and used to hide under the table . Sadly he passed away and we had a collie (Lassie ) who was absolutely enjoying bath times . Every doggy is different and they all all adorable !

The shampoo some people use is a big part of the problem. Always use a fragrance-free shampoo. If YOU can smell anything from your shampoo, imagine what it must be like for your dog, whose sense of smell is _at least_ 1,000 times more powerful than yours, depending on breed.

Sometimes dogs don't like baths because they get COLD. Or they don't like the smell of the shampoo and it makes them feel sick. Try using warmer water (certainly not HOT, but warmer!) and take it easy on the 'poo, ESPECIALLY around their head. I also put my dry-off towels for my dog in the dryer and get them very warm. As soon as I get her out, I wrap her up in one towel, go get the OTHER towel out of the dryer, and she feels snuggled and warm. My dog used to fight taking baths, crawling under the bed and even nipping me to keep from getting in the tub. One time she stretched out and REFUSED to get down in the tub, she was like a dog-spider, clenched and pushing against me to keep from getting wet. I figured out that she didn't like being cold and she didn't like the shampoo. Use a FRAGRANCE-FREE shampoo on your dog, and warm up their dry-off towels in the dryer while you're bathing your dog. As soon as you get them out of the water, put them in the warmed-up towels. Your dog will LOVE you for it!

Yeah, scented (human) shampoo is repulsive to dogs. I had my little pooch for 16 years, She used to loooove warm water, hot towels and a blow dry. Cheers, Rob.

My last dog just loved baths. But I did it outside using a garden hose. She would hold still for me when spraying her and washing. She always enjoy the spraying of water on her some reason. Liked to bite and bark at the water stream being aimed at her after all the washing was done. I guess she would tolerate the washing when knew the playing with the water stream was always next.

Kelvynn Lee One time when it was cold. I tried to use a blow dryer on the dog and she started whimpering and crying. She didn't like and wasn't use to the noise and that rushing air. I ended up just towel drying her and then let her rub her body on the floor as if she's drying herself. .

forced my big male outside dog to stand for a garden hose bath once. it was summer hot and humid. he did not take kindly to the bath and neither did I. came home from work the next day and my 50 foot hose was converted to 50 one foot hoses. we did not try that again.

Good choice, they are wonderful dogs...'course all dogs are wonderful. =). . My dream dog(s) are Border Collies, German Shepherds, Dobermans, Beagles, or the saddest dog at the shelter who was abused. Why? So we can make the rest of their lives filled with love, kindness, respect, warmth, and everything else they didn't have or know before. My husband is dead-set on a Westie. But he had two during his first marriage and I think it's only fair I should get my dream dog! . . Regardless, our dog WILL be adopted from a shelter or a breed-specific rescue organization, even if we have to drive out of state. NO BREEDERS! I do like Westies, but I want a dog I can run with and for protection. . Problem now is our cat only likes one other animal...the horse across the street! . At least we get to sit for and sometimes just borrow a friend's little JRT mix. Shorty is the SMARTEST, sweetheart of a dog ever and his owner is a great pet parent. He's so nice to let us take him for several days a month and when he travels. Shorty is as at home here as much as he is at home. Rambling, sorry. 5:21am. God Bless.

I was extremely lucky with my dog Amber. She liked having a bath followed by the handheld spray nozzle shower head. She would climb into the tub, whenever I said " Time for a Bath ". Maybe the fact that she was 3/4 Golden Lab - 1/4 Colley gave her a love of water.

My dogs are usually OK with bath time but once they're sopping wet, they hold no shame in running down the stairs before I can even dry them. The door has to be shut so they don't run out.

I have a golden myself who is IMPOSSIBLE to keep out of the water! I literally have to lock the bathroom door in the morning when I shower because he figured out how to open the door and will jump right in with me! I let him off leash in one of the parks near my house this past winter because it was literally 0 degrees outside so no one was out... doofus found a creek that wasn't frozen because it was a running creek and JUMPED IN... I literally had to walk my dog home with icicles hanging off of his fur.

+Kim C it's not that easy. My 15-year old dog died and I went through a brief depression over it. I needed time. Do I think about someday getting a new dog? ofcourse! but it's not, well in my case, cause i've had a lot of ppl tell me what you commented at someone else, it's not easy because it's like having someone in your family die and then someone saying "oh just get yourself a new mom or dad or sister" it hurts cause no one can ever take my baby's place.

Oh my -- that black and brown dog @2:58 ... I had a dog that looked JUST like that. She even made the same noise lol. That dog was so spoiled she even hated the rain made us walk with an umbrella.

My 2 male Chihuahuas don’t mind baths at all. My female? Easiest way to get her out of my hair when she’s up to her tricks is say “bath time!” Zoooom, gone!

My dog hates being wet. When it's a rainy day he'll do his business on the covered porch so he doesn't have to get wet. He won't go out when it's snowing but, if there's a layer of ice on the snow he won't come in! He'll start at one end of the yard and just slide down the ice covered snow. He loves it!

my pretty furbaby hates getting wet too...especially on her face. If it's raining and she comes back from a walk, she would rub her face everywhere. She also hates taking baths too. There's a wall leading up to my house and when we return from taking her, she would be as close to the wall as possible and away from the hose. However, when there's snow on the ground or when she wants to get into the water, she makes an exception
