Those Raccacoonie scenes somehow do an amazing job of going from absurd and hilarious to emotional and heartbreaking.

When people say there's nothing "new or creative" in film anymore, they've clearly not seen this film. I'll be so disappointed if it doesn't get at least a nomination for Best Picture at the Oscars to reward that inventiveness.

I have heard some people call this, "the most *movie* movie of all time." Like, how much of this could ONLY work in this particular medium? Film language is absolutely magical. In no other medium could a man step into frame with a trophy up his butt, and you IMMEDIATELY understand: ah, he knows kung-fu now. 😂

I had no idea what to expect going into this movie, I had just heard people rave about it, didn't watch the trailer, all I know was it has something to do with a multiverse. And even while watching it I had no idea at the start that I'd be crying my eyes out for basically the last half hour. This was like a complete reframing of nihilistic existentialism, if nothing matters, it falls upon everyone to make it matter to ourselves. I legit could probably watch this movie again and again and not get sick of it, and that's rare in itself.

LOVED the googly eyes you edited onto your Obi Wan poster during the climax!💞 I was so blown away by this cinematic masterpiece that I ended up seeing it 15 times in theaters, taking countless friends and co-workers with me each time!

The only thing more universal than its themes, is the universal aversion to paper cuts. Not everyone cried in the theater I went to, but rest assured everyone WINCED.

Though as a native Chinese, I saw and got a little bit "extra" from the movie, such as the dialog in Chinese, and the song Waymond hummed as sweeping the smashed glass near the end. But eventually this isn't just a movie about Chinese or Asian American or immigrants, it's about the universal thingy we can feel and grasp as a human, it's about love. Truly a masterpiece. I was lucky to catch this in theaters. It was amazing. We were all laughing, bawling and sniffling. Waymonds part absolutely broke me. When she can’t understand how he helped and his voice breaks when he says, “idk. I just talked to her.” 🥺🥺 Then we see all the little moments of his kindness and silliness that makes her happy. That’s what they were both missing. Her and Joy. Remember when Joy says that’s why she was looking for her mom? To see if she could see something that she missed. They weren’t seeing Waymonds kindness. Also, the bagel represents Joys despair and depression. At the end, it’s super important that it’s Joy who reaches out for her moms hand. She wants help. Then Joys speech about letting her go? Omg the actress is so good. Then their embrace being shown with planets colliding? Like it’s saying that’s just as powerful? So beautiful. I’m crying all over again. Lol 🥹🥹🥹😭😭😭

One of the few times i cried and laughed in a movie at the same time

I can't remember where I read this, but I believe the directors wanted to try to make acts of kindness just as compelling as any John Wick movie. I think they succeeded

During the paper-cut scene nearly everyone in the theater was cringing SO hard, writhing around and contorting, lol. I dunno why but that really seems to affect people!

It's one of my all-time favorite movies. Beyond all the indescribable beauty and chaos of the movie as a whole, there is that feeling of slowly building exhaustion that never quite goes away and the disappointments you never quite get over. And sometimes the easiest thing to do would be to let yourself just drown in the existential depths. But I think Waymond is right; when you don't know what is going on and you don't know what to do, just try kindness. And maybe you can start to heal your own pain and the pain you've caused others.

When I first saw this movie in the cinema a few weeks ago I went in virtually blind. And on first viewing there was so much going on that I don’t think I got it all. But it absolutely got all of me. Now I’ve seen it many, many times (and it still never fails to make me cry), and I hoover up reaction videos on KZfaq because I want to enjoy other people experiencing it for the first time. As a result I have come across your channel for the first time, and you have absolutely nailed it, funnylilgal. I think fixing her relationship with her husband was much more touching because Waymond is a really nice guy who loves his family, but his wife was losing interest in him because she started believing her father was right that Waymond was too weak, but it took the other Universe's successful Waymond to convince her that he wasn't weak at all and that being kind is his biggest strength. And that he would've gave up all his successes in a heartbeat just to be with her. I'm gonna watch this movie again. I loved it. It might be up there as my top 5 movies of all time now. Lol

This is such a relatable reaction. I was basically a mess from Waymond's "in another life, ..." to the end.

I just got my copy last night and watched it for the first time and was equally blown away. I've since watched some of the press junkets and even the cast couldn't understand it when they read the script and shot it, but in the end they realized it was about love, so that's about as succinct a description as I can think of.

My ma died July 26th, I watched this movie for the first time maybe 2 weeks prior , this film really made me wished I hugged my mom one last time.

I cried at all the same parts! Hope you enjoyed this special film as much as I did.

You truly got the story on a first watch. All spot on. With all the chaotic universe jumping, at the end is all about the mending of a family that has started to see a crack. This is a movie that just had the whole universe aligned. The cast, the script, the acting,production/set design, fantastic Editing,costume,makeup, fight choreography, cinematography, lighting and vfx, that only had 5 talented people working remotely during the covid period. It certainly put Marvel to shame with what they can do with 1/6 of the budget. And lastly, the Soundtrack by Son Lux blew my mind. The Daniels has done it again...please watch " Swiss Army Man" which was another movie directed by them before this one.

An absolutely brilliant movie that frees the audience from the constraints of mere reality through whiplash absurdity in order to leave them free to actually feel. I do hope it gets a boatload of Oscars, but I suspect it won't, due to it being too weird for a lot of people. Although I'll be particularly upset if Ke Huy Quan doesn't get best supporting actor at the very least.

Just got this on 4K and can’t believe how much I liked it. Already looking forward to my first rewatch. From that opening "thru the looking glass" shot, the Daniels had me hooked Just wonderful. Enjoyed your reaction as always!

I was so not prepared for this movie. I had low expectations...I was blown away. Crying, laughing, cringing, sometimes all at once. Watching people react to it is so much fun because I KNOW the moments they start to realize the ride is beyond anything they expected.

This was a much better way of explaining the multiverse than "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness". This was a GREAT movie, the Daniels directed this and hit it out of the park.

She deserves an Oscar

This and '1917' are probably the only two films I would rate as 'masterpieces' that have come out in the last few years. From the performances to the camera work, those two pushed the industry a little further into what was possible. This was also a heartwarming tale which got me misty eyed more than a few times. Didn't hurt that it had my favorite actress in Michelle Yeoh. Still the greatest Bond girl of all time. And Ke Huy Quan deserves a best supporting actor award for this role. Simply slayed it.

Oh, FLG, you are so exquisite in your reactions. Don't think I have anything cohesive on what the film is about either, but I can offer one admiring observation on the mechanics of its storytelling: in dazzling, perplexing, and constantly surprising your rational mind, it finds openings to bypass your distracted objectivity and impact your emotions more directly. That's a big reason the more poignant scenes hit like a jack hammer, I think. A little nuanced intimacy goes an amazing long way in this film.

Spoilers . . . The way you describe Evelyn's universe as a martial arts actress, where she didn't stay with Waymond. Is as if there was no "Joy" in that world for her. I am certain her daughters name was very intentional in the context of the entire movie.

It's brilliant and it hits hard every time I see it. Just fantastic work by everyone involved.

The red haired lady in the van with Alpha Waymond is the actress Audrey Wasilewski. She was the voice of Tuck in My Life As A Teenage Robot when I was a kid! She's the current voice of ET The Extra Terrestrial. She does a lot of on camera commercial work. She's the voice of Garfield The Cat's girlfriend Arlene!

Great reaction! Just to add this because I've never seen a Reactor actually pick up on it. The whole 'I'm sorry it's a girl' comment is because for a period of time, due to overcrowding within their Nation, China implemented a 1 Child Per Family law. As a result, and because most families expected the Male child to carry on the family name, if their 1st born child was Female they would kill that child, most often drowning them in rivers :( A very dark time in China's history.

One of my favorite moments in this film is 31:00 mostly because of reactors. There's always that sudden realization that they aren't shaped like that by accident. Angela's little "oh no..." is so funny to hear when the penny drops.

I agree, this movie is amazing and one of the the best movies I ever seen. the production house, A 24, who has produced a lot of movies such as The Witch, this it their biggest hit. James Hong, Gong Gong, the grandfather, is an acting legend! Been in over 400 Chinese and American films. The bald guy getting spanked by Michelle is one of the directors. The special effects was done by 5 people on Apple computers. I can see Academy Awards in the future.

I had waited for Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness for so long, and then it turned out it was not the best multiverse movie that came out this year. Sure, maybe I am biased, since I suffer from depression and thus could relate to Joy and have also ADHD and thus could relate with Evelyn.

Speaking from personal experience, I don’t think I have ever seen a better encapsulation of what it feels like to have ADHD, and how we are treated by people who don’t have it, from a big Hollywood movie. It quickly became one of my favorite movies because of that.

The acting, direction and story were all great, but the cinematography and editing were completely next level.

Haven't loved a movie this much since I've seen the Matrix. And Michelle Yeoh is [chef's kiss] amazing in this movie. I think this is her best work. Also fun fact: The guy she spanks during the final fightscene is one of the directors. Also a even more fun fact: I subscribed!

My favorite part of watching the behind the scenes is the directors kept reminding the actors that at its core they’re making a family drama. It just happens to be wrapped in a multiverse skin. It shows that they didn’t just create a cool concept and neglect the heart and emotion that balanced all the absurdity

A thoroughly amazing movie. I'm happy to see so many others enjoyed it as much as I did.

You should watch their Oscar acceptance speeches. Of course Ke Huy Quan's will make you cry, but you can definitely tell how much they all bonded while making this movie! It's beautiful! I know that director Daniel Kwan has ADHD, and I felt that the character Evelyn may have had that, too. The entire movie, the way it jumps from scene to scene, could explain how Kwan's brain works. I felt like the multiverse was comparable to surfing the internet, like there's so much going on for kids today, way too much information to take in all the time, and they can find themselves in dark places, like the way Joy was depressed and possibly considering suicide, but that was more from the lack of acceptance from her mother. I related to this movie a lot because my mom is an immigrant who had many hopes and dreams she never tried or followed through with. Between her, myself, and my own child we've unfortunately passed on generational trauma, another topic this movie portrays beautifully. You should definitely watch and read everything you can about the making of, or behind the scene features of this movie. Not sure if you noticed, but both directors had small parts in the movie, and the two guys in the butt plug fight scene are brothers who had a lot to do with the fighting choreography. I believe they have their own KZfaq channel as well. This movie is an indie film that had a much lower budget than a lot of the big-time superhero movies, but I think it was way better! There were also only around 6 people working on the visual effects as opposed to the usual hundred or more for big Hollywood films. For me this movie was about a mother and daughter, generational trauma, and acceptance... I loved every minute of it! 😁❤️

It was a lot of fun watching you react to this! My parents are both Chinese immigrants too (though to Canada) and though they're the hardest working people I've ever known, they're also very strict and demanding, and easy to anger but otherwise very emotionally reserved. I ended up much more 'Waymond'-like, my dad is quite the opposite. But Michelle's character was more or less spot on for my mom, haha. Most of my immediate family did actually say "you're getting fat" growing up. If you haven't seen it, I would highly, highly recommend a movie called "Synecdoche, New York". It's hard to say it's 'similar' to this film, but there are a lot of parallels in the exploration of existential themes and life and relationships, as well as the absurdist dark humour. I will say that the two are very alike in the sense that they are both absolutely and beautifully unique, and an absolute wonder to experience. I don't know that it'd win any polls or whatnot as it's not the most widely known, but it is such a beautiful movie that I really hope you'll react to it! Astounding Phillip Seymour Hoffman performance! What I'd consider to be his Magnum Opus.

With a comical whimsical ambience laced alongside so many salivating tender narrative bones to boot, Daniels takes this movie through so many completely different styles that rarely work together in the past and squeegees the most important elements from each genre to give this multilayered inventive project the scope and scale it calls upon. In this manner, without having to physically force the puzzle pieces to fit, they lean into the absurdity of the worlds they have created, always reaching for the most outlandish possibilities and never playing it safe while carrying a therapeutic energy in their direction throughout. We have a frenetic stream of dialogue that somehow keeps pace with breakneck action sequences, which are both delightfully wacky but exquisitely executed, the swapping color palettes help make every select scene feel as surreal and acid-inducing as possible with a pat of beauty, the narrative manages to be exciting and outrageously wild but reasonable within its own multiverse contexts and how every single frame of unconventional cinematography and editing is in natural equilibrium is beyond me. The production design is boundless, yet united by a lighthearted vision, sound design and music symbolically convey psychology through silence, volume, and echoes, the multifaceted effects contribute to the ambitious atmosphere and all the performances are frothingly salivating. It takes a lot for a movie to get me to cry multiple times during viewing. The most I normally cry is once. Even now as I’m talking about it, I’m tearing up.
