It honestly is so surreal to me as someone who’s read both the HTTE trilogy, as well as Zahn’s canon novels (which are arguably even better than HTTE imo). That was one of the coldest entrances I’ve EVER seen in Star Wars 🔥🔥🔥. Even for those that haven’t watched Rebels or read the novels, I think this episode did a good job at starting to solidify not only why he is feared, but also how different he is from most Star Wars villains

Hey, Angela! Lots of payoffs and lots of foreshadowing in an atmospheric episode. Very cool META REFERENCE by Huyang quoting the franchise's opening lines, "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away", which is how he opened his folktales to the younglings. PERIDEA's rings are the bones of dead Purrgills! The planet is like an ELEPHANT GRAVEYARD for them. Filoni just RET-CONNED the whole origin of the Nightsisters! The LEGENDS CANON was the order was begun by a rogue Jedi 600 years in the past who set up shop on Dathomir and lured female colonists away from their families. The colonists were expelled and Dathomir became known as a witch-world. The adepts used their power to garner influence and their dangerous reputation ensured their isolation. Some pirates sold them Zabrak slaves with whom they interbred keeping the female children for the order and establishing a Nightbrother settlement for the males. The human-Zabrak hybrids of Dathomir were called Dathomiri-Zabrak like Darth Maul who was Mother Talzin's son. True Zabraks hail from their homeworld of Iridonia. By the time of the Clone Wars, all Nightsisters and Nightbrothers were Dathomiri-Zabrak hybrids. The Nightsisters debuted in the 1985 live-action TV movie "Battle for Endor". The NEW CANON states the Nightsisters originated in this other galaxy and established outposts in the Star Wars galaxy before history was recorded pre-dating the RAKATAN INFINITE EMPIRE! This is a major deviation from established lore! The three elders who greet the pilgrims are three known actresses named after the three FATE SISTERS of Greek mythology! KLOTHOW is played by CLAUDIA BLACK of "Farscape" where she portrayed Aeryn Sun and "Pitch Black" where she portrayed Shazza. She is named after CLOTHO, the Fate who spins the thread of life. LAKESIS is played by JANE EDWINA SEYMOUR of "Star Trek: Picard" where she portrayed the Borg Queen. She is named after LACHESIS, the Fate who measures out the thread of life. AKTROPAW is played by JERYL PRESCOTT of "The Walking Dead" where she portrayed Jacqui and "Ray Donovan" where she portrayed Cherry. She is named after ATROPOS, the Fate who cuts the thread of life! It's disorienting for LEGENDS fans to see LARS MIKKELSEN in the role of Thrawn because he is supposed to be a younger man with strikingly chiseled good looks and sharp cheekbones. However, I was prepped to accept the change by seeing "Rebels" and "The Witcher" where he played the wily mage Stregobor. It's good continuity keeping the voice actor and Mikkelsen did not disappoint. CAPTAIN ENOCH with the gold faceplate is played by WES CHATHAM of "The Expanse" where he portrayed Amos Burton. The troops are all bound by red Nightsister bandages and their cracked armor has been repaired using the KINTSUGI method of filling the gaps with gold lacquer. Thrawn says their numbers have dwindled and he's reluctant to commit too many troops to track Sabine. I bet these guys are mostly ZOMBIE TROOPERS like Marrok the Inquisitor. BAYLAN and SHIN are the stars of the show! RAY STEVENSON is killing it in this part! What's calling out to this man? What do the Nightsisters wish to get away from? How can it break the cycle of war? Is it possible the YUUZHAN VONG are lurking somewhere nearby? I sure hope so! EZRA BRIDGER shows up as EMAN ESFANDI with blue contacts and a beard looking very much like Ezra's pops from the cartoon images! Very good casting. He and Sabine have an unpleasant discussion ahead. The HOWLER's attachment to Sabine was very cute as were the nomadic NOTI Shell People. The bandits looked like RONIN in their red armor. What is the cargo being loaded onto the 'Chimera'? Nightsisters in stasis? Mummified Nightsisters? Nightsister relics? Nightsister treasure? We shall see...

Thrawn's motivation in his books is actually a quite noble one, to assemble a fighting force strong enough to protect his people, the Chiss, from outside threats.

Fun fact I learned today: The cinematography for episodes 2, 3 and 5 was done by Quyen Tran, who is married to Sam Riegel who plays Scanlan Shorthalt in The Legend of Vox Machina.

I'm willing to bet Thrawn has had to resort to Night Sister Magic giving him an army of Undead Troopers. All those Stormtroopers are obedient Zombies.

The 3 Night sister Great Mothers are basically the Fates from Greek mythology, and looking at their names Filoni is copying that. Clotho (Klothos in the show) is the youngest and the spinner of the thread of life. Lachesis (Lakesis in the show) is the middle aspect who measures the thread of life. Atropos (Aktropaw) is the eldest and cuts the thread of life. Also how they keeping referencing the threads and seeing the future is straight from the mythology! Pure awesomeness!

At the beginning... I was fanboying hard and was ready to pop some popcorn and grab a blanket for "Storytime with Huyang." I could see a series around that. I'm enjoying more detail regarding the Dathomirian Witches and their ways of connecting with the Living/Cosmic Force and all that is getting special attention. I totally love how, with one word or phrase, Filoni can alter the entire Star Wars canon (Bokken Jedi.) Wow. All the wolf-like visuals... all Filoni. But Thrawn... one can tell that Lars is having an absolute blast playing this character in live action. It's just too cool for school to finally see him. Enoch reminds me of a character from Fallout: New Vegas. Legate Lanius. Kudos to the practical effects team, they are so talented. Ezra looks like his dad from the photo from Rebels. Last bit, a prediction... Thrawn wants to know all about Ahsoka including who her master was... tie in to Zahn's novel "Alliances." And... did you catch the "catacombs" comment? Thrawn is loading an undead army to bring with him.

Loved this episode...so awesome to finally see a live-action Thrawn...and those troopers, esp Enoch... My first thought when it was mentioned the whales went there to die was the big one Ahsoka hitched a ride in. And when Baylon told Sabine she would be reunited with Ezra to me could be taken several ways - he had no way to know if he was alive or not but it still stood. To get back to their galaxy all they need is the co-ordinates for the jump, which is what they needed the map for to get to Thrawn, once they had those all they needed to do was jump. Gutted though the series will be over soon and hope they make more seasons - Ahsoka is one of my favourite characters, Rosario is killing it in the role!

Yes, it's Ezra's light saber. I agree about Sabine. I don't blame Sabine either. It's really interesting how she is a loose thread, and reeks of the Jedi. I can't wait for her to bust out with the force. I also think it's cool when you pointed out that the night sisters could not sense her, which protected her. I mean we were all scratching out heads at the reveal that she is force sensitive-ish... So I'm intrigued and excited about some of the fated aspects of Sabine, how "for Sabine it was her only choice" to give into Baylan. (Baylan would have taken her out if she tried to destroy it or run with it.) Dave Filoni is cooking up something really cool for Sabine and I can't wait to find out. Her best episode so far. I love her moment with the Noti. It felt very like a Princess Leia/ Ewok moment. And don't the Noti look like crab hobbits, with their little outfits?😂 It might be too much to expect an Ezrabine storyline, but I can hope. Come-on, Dave. You've given us lots of fan service moments. Give us this!

Neither Thrawn nor the Night Sisters were anticipating lots of whales, so destroying them won't be easy. It was great to see Claudia Black, from Farscape and Stargate, playing one of the Night Sisters, specifically the Great Mother. I am so happy they got Lars Mikkelson to play Thrawn. He's such a great actor and his voice as Thrawn from Rebels was epic.

I haven't gotten far enough into Rebels to see Thrawn yet, so this was my first time seeing him. I was praying he wouldn't be 'actively' evil, but more disconnected evil, which did not disappoint. One of the great aspects of Vader, as a villain, specifically in Empire, was his emotional disconnection to the atrocities he was committing.
