FINALLY, a mascot horror game where the mascot actually LOOKS like its meant to entertain kids while still feeling uncanny. you guys absolutely nailed the soulless Barney-style eyes! fumbo looks like smth i wouldve loved as a kid [i love his big snout omg], but also i wouldnt want to stare into his eyes for too long. shoutout to ur character design team, this looks like a much needed/refreshing twist on the genre :D

This comment is likely gonna get buried, but I wanted to say I really like this idea! While, yes, it is mascot horror, it originally started as a puzzle platformer adventure. Keeping the core gameplay elements while running through the studio sounds like a fun time :) It isn't a hugely new concept, but the extra focus on gameplay and the sincere intent behind the project makes me very excited. Plus, the barney angle isn't anything we've seen yet :) Mad respect dude. You guys seem like some awesome game devs. I hope to play it!

Barney the Dinosaur the game: horror Edition

I'd be interested in seeing a mascot horror game where the mascot is basically the only _non_-enemy in the game.

In another timeline, this game is what kicked off the mascot horror genre, almost a decade later.

First video that popped into my feed was the announcement trailer and I immediately thought “another mascot game? You guys are starting to miss the boat, like third chimpanzee on the gangplank to Noah’s ark missing the boat levels here.” Second one is this one which is much more encouraging. You openly understand that you are late to the party and hopefully this means you will focus on being more My Friendly Neighborhood and less Garten of BanBan. This is a good thing

this actually does sound like an idea that has alot of potential, i have a suggestion, you want to make a horror game based off of old gameshows having kids do all these wild challenges, why not incorporate that into your game? it would be really fun and creepy having this old guy in a hippo costume that never left the studio put you through the old challenges from the show with wild disturbing twists only an insane person could come up with, it would be fast, fun, exciting, scary, and it would make your game stand out way more!

i think going into a project like this upfront about the oversaturation of the genre is awesome. tropes are just tools - they’re not inherently good or bad. if your game feels better as a mascot horror, then that means it’s the right direction to go in! really excited to see more, both the game itself and your commentary style are so neat

Just a thought, DON'T--I REPEAT--DON'T have a gimmick that continues throughout the game, UNLESS it isn't divided into chapters, which is another thing I STRONGLY suggest not to do. Make your game one continuous experience instead of having 5 or 6 chapters, since games like Playtown, Poppy's Playtime, Joyville, even Garten of Banban use chapters to keep us coming back. These games, as well as Netflix Originals, are the reason I am so exhausted with cliffhangers or "To Be Continued" 's (that and I don't know if the cast, or show itself like Last Kids on Earth and Inside Job, will live long enough to finish the story). I know I've been rambling a lot, but I had to warn you about these problems. I do have confidence in you guys. GOOD LUCK, AND DON'T LET US DOWN...PLEASE!!!!!!!!! (Also, 100th comment!)

I certainly think this a pretty cool premise that’ll make up for some fun gameplay. Barney the Purple Dinosaur is a personal childhood fear of mine, so the fact your Hippo character Fumbo parallels him has got me interested. If I had to suggest anything to improve upon the creepiness factor would be the way he should emote through the suit. Something I don’t like about most mascot horror games is that they all make the characters as alive as possible. Not one time has any of them made me feel the same amount of instilled fear as the more stationary movements that Barney has. You guys should really emphasize that for Fumbo. He should be restricted by the difficulties of being a tv performance suit. Like the most iconic Barney’s suit was actually a-lot lighter than people think he was. Barney could run almost perfectly but when you pay attention to the way the suit reacts to those movements the character feels a lot less alive and gives off a much more unknown monstrous feeling. Especially when he had to talk. Seeing the creases in the suits fabric around the mouth was always so unnerving, knowing some level of strain is used each time to just make it look like he’s talking. The eyes, head/neck, and upper torso shouldn’t be able to move that much. But the arms, legs, and lower body half can still react normally. Watching on tv Barney’s eye seem to be able to look around but really that’s just body acting breathing life into the suit. His eye’s were stationary, emphasizing the full movement to appear to be able to look left and right was just really creepy. Up close and personal Barney actually looks at you a lot through his mouth. So I imagine when getting chased by Fumbo or stalked by him, him looking at you through his mouth would be 10 times scarier than the suits eyes looking at you. I’m super excited for how this game turns out and I wish you guys the best of luck. Sorry for the long reading though, it’s just the late night ramblings of a guy whose gotten super interested in something right before clocking out for the night. Just trying to get most of my thoughts out before I forget in the morning.

It's interesting to see that this game shifted into mascot horror after you kept working on its ideas! It seems that gameplay might have a greater focus, rather than the game being a walking sim, which is a good change of pace.

It feels like THE mascot horror type of game but it also feels like there is something more yall can do to stand out on this, like maybe giving more organicness to the world or something for example the main lobby with the logo funset. maybe more scratches on the walls etc. more less systematic texture on the grounds and stuff. im really lookin forward to this one anyways

Hi August! I just want to say I look forward to see your take on mascot horror. While many people seem to start having a salty opinion on any horror now starting to have a rather obnoxious opinions that everything is poppy ripoff or Fnaf ripofff just for having a mascot or trying to be scary. While for some games that maybe true, I think what’s more important is if the game puts new fun and scary spin that just so happens to be in a similar style or theme to them Joyvile is a perfect example while not being perfect is made with effort and love. And I can you aspire to try the same with Funset I wish you all the best and I’ll continue to keep an eye on your progress here 😊

Seeing knock-off Barney's plush butt was certainly a surprise. Honestly, this entire game has a good bit of charm and uses its' art very well.

Looks really cool. The aesthetic is nice, while I never enjoyed shows like that I imagine it must be pretty fun to actually partake in one of the challenges. I enjoy parkour games and puzzles and mascot horror games are pretty good imo too. It may not be inherently scary, but its pretty difficult to scare me anyways. The mascot looks sorta like barney, but a hippo instead, and that choice really matches the jungle esc wallpaper theme. Looking forward to finding out more on this project!

The mascot almost reminds me of how much I loved and was creeped out by Barney as a little kid. That purple dinosaur brought me both joy and nightmares.

Ik not ALL of them are unconvincing, just look at *most* non-paranormal versions of Freddy Fazbear like Classic Freddy, Withered Freddy, and Rockstar Freddy. But most are pretty unconvincing in being a kids character

Mascot horror definitely has its own ups and downs, and it's overall had a sort of.. Smeared image. A few bad apples can unfortunately make the bunch in terms of reputation. However! As of recent, some hope has been resparked; The same excitement and uniqueness held in the likes of Tattletail, or even when FNAF first came to digital libraries, recaptured in projects such as My Friendly Neighborhood. While we as an audience look to feel fear, we also look for passion, care, and time put into art. It's just.. Empty otherwise. I'm happy to say that I honestly feel a swell of this same hope and excitement towards this project. It seems like a fun project with love put into it, and I'm 100% here to see how it goes!

If your trying to go for a 90s kid game show, instead of basing the setting on a play ground, which I hope is just a place holder, you should look into ride queues for theme parks or old movie sets

I think we all know that mascot horror is wearing a bad name since of how most of those games go and look. Tho what i fear about your game by seeing the inroduction is that it's going to be like poppy playtime form the puzzles out where you have much time to do these and only when the true horror starts it's a puzzle that can get you killed or a chase scene and not like the part in security breach at the daycare where you get hunt down while doing those puzzles. I hope that game would push us but at the end we're gonna see what it's truly to become, just like indigo park i give my hopes that the game will be good and real horror like for examle zardy's maze or doors where we are constantly hunted.
