The all new 4th generation Suzuki Jimny sold out as soon as it was announced at the end of 2018. Obviously its hugely popular, but why all the fuss over the tiny off roader, and is it worth waiting for?
If you can't get hold of a new Jimny how about a Tamiya radio control one? Buy Here! amzn.to/2O0KPoR

Well I'm amazed. Personally this is just one of very few cars from very recent years that I would own. It's great to see sonething brand new with such cool old styling. Rubber gear gator, proper handbrake actual switches over touch ones. A very practical gem. Well done Suzuki! It's like a reborn Defender maybe.

I own a third generation Jimny and love it. The biggest problem with the new Jimny is that Suzuki at the moment are only supplying 1300 units to the UK per year and the last time I looked there were 10,000 yes 10,000 folks currently on the waiting list. Looks like I will be hanging onto my old girl for quite a long time yet.

I’ve had my SZ5 Jimny for eleven days and absolutely love it. It is like a Rolls Royce compared to my previous Jimny which I now liken to an empty sardine tin. It is roomy inside and much more comfortable. The only thing I do not like are the window controls not being on the doors, otherwise it is fabulous.

I had a 1988 SJ412 ragtop which I bought in 1996 and then spent a couple of months rebuilding the engine and gearbox. I had more fun in that than in any car I’ve owned in 57 years of driving. It really could go anywhere. IMO, these Suzis are the ultimate off-roader. You should have seen it climbing over boulders on our local beach. Neither a Landie nor a Jeep were able to make it across, while the Suzi’s smaller footprint made it able to perch on rocks that they both bottomed out on. Also, we once rescued a Landcruiser with an 18 ft boat behind it, which had sunk up to its axles in sand when a wave washed under it as they were recovering their boat. I had an elastic “Snatchstrap” and we popped that rig out, no problem. Earned ourselves a big crayfish and a snapper from some very relieved fishermen, who couldn’t believe that our little “toy” was so capable. Happy days.

I tested one recently when my Swift was in for a service. Thoroughly enjoyed it, although my one gripe was limited rear visibility with the rear headrests in place. Still, I could cope with the seat backs down. At £18k it's more than I'd planned to spend on a new car, but I love three door cars and this is Suzuki's only three door! I do have 19 months before I'm due a change of car so I'll just have to convince myself that I can't live without one!

@IO-zz2xy

It would compete with the Mahindra. If I was going to buy a pickup it would be a Mahindra so I don't know why they are scared of "competition" Regards from South Africa
@shankarbalan3813
@shankarbalan3813 3 жыл бұрын
@@IO-zz2xy mahindra is a totally different company. They have the Thar which is descended from the original Jeep lineage. The Jimny if it comes to India will be from Maruti which is Suzuki’s presence in India. The Thar and Jimny would then be the only 2 players in India in the accessible or affordable 3 door Off roader SUV segment. Jeep costs perhaps 6 times as much as the Jimny or the Thar. Hence Jeep is absolutely not a mass market product here in India. To your point about competition, I think with the above facts, Maruti Suzuki will actually do very well to bring the Jimny 3 door into India to offer an alternative to the Thar, to the enthusiasts and off roader community and lifestyle seekers. Being a Suzuki it will sell like hot cakes. Because Suzuki has a first class service network here in India upto and including the remotest corners of the country.

A no nonsense review by a normal bloke. Good to listen to. Worth watching all the way through. He is more interesting than any of the presenters on the new Top Gear. Suzuki make superb cars these days. Tough and reliable. I have the Celerio at the moment, and its a car full of character, a bit noisy sometimes because its a cheap car, not a lot of sound insulation but its very comfortable and has a superb gearbox. JD Power dependability puts Suzuki in 3rd place. Its a brand I trust and you get a lot of car for your money. If you want soft touch interiors, look elsewhere. Im not bothered about that nonsense. Suzuki make cars that are hard wearing. They don’t pretend to be something they aren’t. Japanese cars are the best.

One of these is on my 'must own' wishlist too! They're super popular here in NZ, the main two colours you see them in are Olive drab, and the yellow you refer to. In my opinion, they are pretty much the only modern 'basic' no frills car. By no frills, I mean no fancy touch screen nonsense, no over the top styling. I was on the phone with my mate earlier talking about Hondas. While I love Hondas, the current Civic and Accord are far too large and over styled.

The solution to that is for the next one or even the revamp of this model to be made electric then they will not have to worry about meeting emission targets. They should get the best biggest battery they can get to git in it the hard part woukd be doing it without making the Jimny even more expensive. Basically the battery and motors need to cost whatever an engine cost or not to much more.

Had a girlfriend back in the early eighties who had a Jimmny with a two stroke engine. She hated filling up on oil and the smell of it. I liked it. But she drove everywhere at maximum revs. And it was always screaming. To top it off, I was always terrified as a passenger. She had zero road sense and I had my eyes shut a lot. She eventually got an old mini minor, which was rubbish and she drove it identically.

@@davidcollins2258 Here in Japan there have always been two Jimny models. The Kei spec Jimny with 660cc engine and no wheelarches that you would register on a yellow plate, then the Jimny Sierra with (previously) a 1300cc engine and wider track that was registered as a standard car size on a white plate. I haven't checked recently because I am not in the market for one, but I dare say this iteration will be split in the same way. But I do know there is also a waiting list for them here as well. Suzuki really hot the sweet spot with this re-vamp.

Steven Homan LR only make bling cars these days, and are still unreliable compared to other brands. They really have lost their way, its embarrassing really. Even if I won the lottery, I wouldn’t get a Range Rover. Too many on the roads now, they are all leased. You know that people don’t actually own them, so I take no notice. Anyone with a half decent wage can pay monthly for one of them. If I needed a large 4x4, and although not a huge fan of diesels these days, id get the Land Cruiser or Mitsubishi Shogun Sport. Failing that, im hoping to get a Subaru XV as my next long term car in a couple of years.

@jadu-entertainment
@jadu-entertainment 5 жыл бұрын
@@andyakarudolfhessiansack7936 Exactly. To be fair, they had to modernize this car a bit to make it appealing to a larger audience and to make it relevant. Suzuki could have done more electronic assist features but they chose not to do that. Lane departure warning can be disabled so if you don't want it you can disable it. So your question is absolutely right, which one is considered silly?
@andyakarudolfhessiansack7936
@andyakarudolfhessiansack7936 5 жыл бұрын
@@jadu-entertainment Exactly my point mate. The accessories add very little extra weight, and in my view they are all very good and even essential. The Auto braking crash avoidance system is top notch and will prevent rear ending at up to 45mph. The hill descent control is AMAZING as it machine guns the brakes on and off allowing no wheel slip down hills etc. Air con is a must have. Lane departure as you rightly said can be switched off if it annoys the user. Parking camera is optional. A smart-phone compatible music player is essential nowadays. 4WD low is essential in a good off-roader. High beam assist is AWESOME. So all in all.... i see no reason to see any of them as "silly". Perhaps some people dont like the new Jimny's spec, because they have the old granny faced pre-2019 models. Haters in that case are gonna hate. Cheers.
