Instead of removing the skirt, you could pull them under and staple them to the frame. Then trim to size. That way they will look more finished and you won’t have waste time pulling the skirt a d staples off.

Not thrilled with the fact that after ripping the skirt off the chair, the bottom does not look finished. I would think twice about paying over $200 for a chair in that condition.

To each his own. Good for you discovering that vintage velvet chairs are a quick flip money maker. Personally, though the skirts may be dated, I prefer to see a skirt than the crushed velvet, non-faded color contrast and exposed staples.

The trim piece in between the skirt and body of the chair is called‘Cording’ I used to work in an upholstery shop and that’s what we called it 👍

I have had a lot of success removing the cushion cover, washing it in the washer on gentle cycle in cold water. The secret is to put the cover back on wet. It's easy and cleans the cushion really well. Love your channel I watch it every week. Keep up the great content.

I’ve done the same thing. I had some chairs and actually my dofa too. They zipped off. Washed them put them back on while still damp. I only do it in the summer months so it can sit them outside in the shade. That way the sun doesn’t lighten them. It’s usually too cold and snowy where I live.

I really liked the darker green ones! I had to chuckle a bit! The orange ones reminded me of 2 that my husband and I bought new furniture when we got married in 1977. We got a sofa, traditional style that had orange florals in it on like a cream colored background! This was our “formal living room “! We also got traditional style end tables and lamps! I would nurse our babies in there through the night and it was such a cozy and comfortable space! I had to share my story! ❤

Me too! Nursing in the chair with feet up against the end table, rocking away the night. My velvet rocker was hideous and we were hippies so it was covered in a Mexican blanket.

You inspire me! We purchased a nearly two hundred year-old Home full of furniture. We have been blessed with two of these velvet beauties. I put one in the yard sale today, brought it home because it didn't sell. My sister said it's ugly and worth about $10. I'll be showing her this video tomorrow. You inspire me to get it flipped!

Not to mention, These vintage chairs are made to last! Chairs today are made of inferior wood, stapled etc. These vintage chairs are so much more comfortable too! So in reality, these chairs are a bargain!

I do not think it can be stated enough that pictures are crucial to selling, and staging. I know Neiman is a very skilled photographer and you have great equipment but I think the latest and greetest phones have very decent cameras as well. Also I want to address a few repeat comments I have read in regards to why dont you finish the under sides of the chairs, why dont you turn the skirt under and tack vs rip off, and a few other types of these questions and comments. I am saying this as a retired retail executive with over 32 years in retail ...Lauren, you have done MANY things very well in growing your business over the last few years but none better than understanding your market. This is a KEY factor to a success retail business no matter where you are, what you are selling the KEY to success is, know your market and then cater to it. You have honed in on what sells and sells quickly in your market, you stick to what sells, you dont get "bored" of doing the same thing and decied well I think I will just change up what and how I am doing things because I am bored, this is the kiss of death. You are establishing a base customer, you now have repeat customers this is amazing!!! Can you expand your offering? Sure!! but not at the sake of the core customer you have developed over the course of runnng your business. Many companies very large fail at this, mostly due to too many chefs in the kitchen, if we are being honest. Keep honed in on your market, keep in touch with how fast things are selling, when your post something and you have immediate multiple responses your market can likely bear a slightly higher price next time. A simple but effective rule of thumb in business is "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". This simply means, you are better off to take that first offer most of the time, unload whatver you have for sale vs waiting for a price that may never come. ( of course this doesnt mean accept lowbal offers). Keep up the great work, you two work well together, its awesome to see two young adults working hard to reach their dreams.

This is such great advice, particularly for those who don’t have all the tools, etc. I love how thoughtful you are on points like easy delivery/pickup, simple tools and even the minimum needed if you don’t have the four tools ⚒️ you listed. You really are a teacher (as well as creative entrepreneur) at heart!

Have you considered just stapling the skirt to the bottom of the chair instead of tearing it off? I saw another You Tuber staple the skirt and it looked very nice. Saves you the hassle of ripping up the skirt and there is no “line” that shows wear the skirt was.

I have had great luck cutting a portion of the bottom of the skirt and stapling the fabric to the underside. The chair looks beautifully finished with the piping intact. There is never a line of demarcation or color difference. I never tear off a skirt. The chair just looks unfinished or the color change is too obvious.

Love that method! I noticed there were bits of material on some of the chairs in the video that hung down, rather than be re-stapled to the under-bottom of the chair. That and the demarcation line you mentioned took me back ever so slightly. Really like your idea.

@@marydumois4242 , its about knowing your market. She is not being dishonest or trying to hide anything from any of her buyers, id say most even watch her videos and know what she pays for these chairs. Shes smart, she isnt putting a ton of extra effort into the chairs because she is selling them quickly and for great profit, that is called knowing your market. IF these chairs didnt sell and she was continually having customers come look at the chairs and say "oh, I really dont care for how the bottom is finished, I think I will pass" then she might consider finishing them differently is suspect but this is a simple case if it aint broke, dont fix it. No one else has to flip the chair the way that Lauren does, if others would prefer to tack the skirt up under the chair, go for it, but honestly she has developed a template for sucess as we would say in my business and she is smart to not deviate from it and keep using that over and over and over until it no longer is working.

My grandma reupholstered furniture my whole childhood and the part you left behind on the striped chair when you pulled the skirt is called welting. It is usually made from the fabric wrapped around a welt cord.

Lauren, I love your channel .I have learned so much from you. The trim you’re talking about to cover up the discolored pieces is called cording trim you can make your own cording trim by buying the cording that like a plain piece of rope and then cutting your material some times on the bias keep up the good work.

The chairs are actually very cute as is lol..I liked all of them before and after..... People buy stuff at flea markets, thrift stores and goodwill for very cheap then re sell as is on line for a lot more.. So it's no different except you're actually making enhancements to the chair to be more appealing. Very Good.

Lauren, as you were tearing off the skirts I was feeling like gosh, what to do with those skirts. Surely there is a use. Not sure what you do with them but a seamstress might be interested to cut them into length and they would make a heck of a top heavy warm bedspread of table runners........almost like a quilt of length and really be pretty placemats, runner, or a lap blanket............they would be sooo warm. Glad you used the fabric for the button. Exactly correct way to go about it. Thanks for sharing all of the chairs....the leather one, was to die for and all the velvet ones are gorgeous too. I had a cocoa brown one for years, and it was like new when I gave it to my nephew and his wife for their first apartment. Love the channel and best of luck with everything!

I've seen these chairs painted with fabric paint, which is what I would have done had I purchased your nana's chair (and I'm probably her age too) or the one with the weird material. Loved, loved those green ones, it's amazing what a nice wash job can do hehe.

I loved that aqua chair and the brown leather. The leather I could use in 3 different rooms! The aqua in 2 different rooms. Love that this is so darn easy! I need to buy the steam cleaner and a few of those stains, I have the needle nose pliars.

My parents had two orange rockers with the material you haven't worked with. They had wood on them too....Early American purchased in either late 60s early 70s. I thought they were ugly but I rocked in them for hours. My mom ended up giving them to me but I sold them to a resale shop about 15 years ago. I am anxious to see what that one sells for. Lauren, I think it looks better when you leave the piping on the bottom of the chairs. Especially when there is a bit of a color difference. It helps with the transition. Also, take the time to stable up the bottom material, it just makes it look finished. Great job! What search term to you use when you find these chairs. Do you do recliners?

I really liked those green corduroy chairs!! Super cute!! I also thought the leather chair was very attractive and thought that it could have brought a much bigger profit for you, especially if you had refinished the wood trim. Great job Lauren, you r fabulous. I really love how you psy attention to the cleaning of the chairs. I was wondering if you ever thought of making some arm covers out of the fabric that you takecoff the bottom. It probablybwouldt be that hard and i think where you may notice the most wear and tear on the chairs is located on the arms. Just a thought.

I have two light blue velvet chairs. I was thinking of cleaning the dust. Sticky rollers work great up to a point, before using upholstery/ water extractor machine.
