I found it scary! But I want to get used to that feeling! I think I struggle with controlling the outcome and wanting it to be exactly what I had in my head - but that just doesn't happen often as a beginner! Such a good exercise and I am gonna continue to chase that uncomfy feeling of not knowing what is going on or how things will turn out!!! And yup! Keep making things that make u happy!

Hi Sha'an! My concentration in art uni was ceramics and when you questioned about shaping techniques, i'd say that's the beauty of ceramics: anything is possible! To me, compared to other crafts like metalsmithing or woodworking, there arent too many technical things to pay attention to. Most important is making sure there are no air bubbles so it doesnt explode. Though i kinda cringe when you used the lightbox as surface 😭 i was afraid that it'll break! i tend to to be really hard at wedging; the technique you'd use in the beginning to make the clay more malleable/softer. Other than that this was an awesome and fun video! Bravo for trying new things!

this was so fun !! the kit is really cute ; I’ve never seen one like that before (I usually see air-dry clay), and i love how the pieces turned out !!! good job ✨✨✨ I’d definitely like to see you try to work in this medium again! either with more hand-building - or on a wheel !! although you’d probably want some clothes that you’re not worried about getting dirty also: yes, patting or tapping the clay with a tool is a Thing !! helps with the shape

Ahhh! I was so shocked when you said that you found clay scarier than painting! To me, clay goes wrong? Splat it back into a ball and start again! Make one single bad paintbrush line on a painting? Panic forever and put it in the corner and never look at it again :P I just wanted to hug you all along and say it's okay, it'll be fine, trust your artist gut feeling because you're right, even about things like slapping the sides, which totally is a real ceramic technique! I hope you do loads more fun experimenting, and give ceramics another go without worrying so much about right and wrong. :D - Vero aka thatcanadiangirl
@allisonsedar

Haha I love that the title says “chill” but it was anything but! 🤣 and the part were you start slapping the cup like “IS THIS A TECHNIQUE!?!?” Haha so great. Yes do more art experiments! I think it’s great for less experience artists to see how you work through those feelings of uncertainty when you’re trying something new. Also, as a SAHM I really appreciate you releasing the peachtober list early. It gives me a chance to work on my peachtober drawings when my baby is being watched because she only gets babysat once or twice a week. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to participate!

I don't like teachers who completely stops doing something because of a problem that can be fixed. I worked at a school where the principal even banned the students from using water, because some students left them to drip... I was much luckier with clay class, but we were assigned 1 teacher assistant every 10 students, and the assistant even had to finish our project if we can't finish haha (that was kindergarten class). But every week we take home ceramic pieces that I still have sitting in my room, and I still remember some of the clay technique that I learned when I was 5.

It's so refreshing to see even such an accomplished artist struggle with the same scary feelings of starting that beginners face. Even if it doesn't turn out well, it's reassuring to see that that's normal and it's okay because you still learn from the experience. Maybe this will encourage me to push myself further out of my comfort zone and face the scaries again. I'd love to see more videos like this!
