Thank you Bob. Between conifers and deciduous, the deciduous is the tortoise! Very slow out the starting blocks, but man, after a number of years adding slowly but surely to the ramification it’s difficult to keep up. Thank you for the kind comment.

Great content, thanks Terry! Maybe a suggestion, especially for us South African growers: maybe you can mention at the beginning of the video the precise date on which you are doing the work. This will give us a better framework for which work can be done at what times.
@TerryErasmusbonsai
@TerryErasmusbonsai 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Quintin, I appreciate the suggestion - I’m all for getting feedback on the channel so thanks for that... but I’m not going to mention the date, only the season, which I usually do. I think it’s misleading to give a date, for the same reason I detest these silly calendars that circulate in bonsai circles eg repot in September, fertilize in August etc. Seasons are shifting so attaching them to a date is problematic. However I would prefer that people act on visual clues like buds swelling to indicate repotting or leaves changing colour to indicate final pruning etc, which is also why I try to remember to mention these clues in each video. Hope that explanation helps and thanks again for the feedback!

Thank you for your request! Unfortunately I’ve never grown this herb as a bonsai but I have seen some good ones and understand it is possible. I’m sorry but I am not in a position to teach something on this species as I don’t really know much about them myself.

Do you prefer the pine style for deciduous trees?
@TerryErasmusbonsai
@TerryErasmusbonsai 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. Thanks for the question. I’d like to think that I am not limited to any particular style and if you watch my channel you will see that I have trees in many different styles, it just depends on the material I am working with. Moreover I am a student of Japanese bonsai. The style of this tree is inspired by deciduous trees I have worked on there during my training and have appreciated at countless exhibitions there. You did not say though, do you appreciate this tree for what it is or not ?

@@TerryErasmusbonsai It's a beautiful tree and I can appreciate both types of aesthetic, both naturalistic and the stylised Japanese approach you showcase here in this Elm. It has excellent quality: mature bark, good nebari, tapering branches with good movement and the ramification will just get better every season. I like your channel especially because of the field grown dynamic which has been my approach for 30 odd years now. You could probably build a trunk in half the time than I could here in the UK. It's currently 18C, rainy and gloomy in Yorkshire at the start of Summer.
