"You see that? That's an entire city on fire. It will end... but before it does, a lot more people gotta die." This is the 'earn this' line of the movie for me...

There was a real "War Daddy." Leopold "War Daddy" Poole was a leading WW2 American tank ace. In a documentary about the Sherman tank, they showed a Sherman in a museum named Fury written on the barrel. Sgt. Poole survived the war. All the members of his crew had nicknames.

My favorite war movie. I also like to point out to reactors because a lot of people don't realize this. The entirety of the movie takes place in a 24-hour period. The movie starts in the morning and when Norman wakes up by the horse at the end is the next morning. Its also the same horse in the beginning.

I didn’t realise it was the same horse! Thank you for sharing that! 😊 it is a very interesting and unique movie!

A note for the German they shoot in the back, he was wearing a US military coat which means he could be concidered a spy in which case execution was deemed acceptable but its still up for debate. There are reports of American soldiers killing any German they find wearing American uniform basically out of priciple despite this officially speaking being a war crime. In this film they aren't necessarily trying to pass any kind of judgement on either side which is why they even show the German at the end let Norman go. I think the film was just trying to give an honest look at war and how it directly affects the people in it, even to the point where there are multiple scenes showing how German civilians were treated by both American and German soldiers, even the "fuck her for a chocolate bar" line was a reality as by that time the German economy had entirely collapsed and women were in a situation where they had to make money or get fed by any means necessary.

Actually, wearing the enemy's uniform as an act punishable by death had little to do with being a spy. The offense was more a violation of the articles of war because by doing so one could create enough confusion on the battlefield that soldiers could wind up shooting members of their own side. It was an act punishable by death.

My grandfather was in the 2nd Infantry Division 3rd Army under Patton and he told me that any German found wearing an American uniform was executed without fail

Wow, a lot of misinformation here. That's totally and completely untrue. Perfidy wasn't officially recognised as a war crime under the geneva convention until 1977. Treatment of spies at this time was covered by the Hague Convention, which defined a spy as an enemy combatant who operates behind enemy lines with the purpose of gaining intelligence. Soldiers wearing items of enemy clothing for protection or warmth are not considered spies. It has never been illegal and is not in violation of any treaty or convention to wear items of enemy clothing for warmth. In order for something to be considered perfidy there needs to be an intention of deception or of causing confusion. An enemy soldier wearing an enemy uniform with a friendly coat is a prisoner of war. Shooting an unarmed man in the back for wearing a coat is an open-and-shut example of a war crime. This film should be applauded for this scene, as most movies depicting allied forces rarely show them committing war crimes, even though it's well known that we did so, just as all armies did during this conflict.

Dom breaks away not because he has PTSD, he is processing his emotions alone, so he can be a stronger leader for his men. Men will question leadership of someone who is too emotional in stressful environments. Also Dom sees Norman similar to himself over the others in the tank, I think this is why he shows him the Nazi's who took their own lives and the women's house, so he still has a sense of normality. Norman isn't getting more into killing, he is displaying aggression towards the enemy that just killed the other tanks. If you notice the guys are harsh on Norman at the first camp, but as he is adjusted to war and they see he is willing to be part of the team and help keep them alive they ease up on him after he shoots the suspected spy. I agree this is one of, if not the best performances from Shia.

I highly suggest "Saving Private Ryan (1998)" is one of the best WW2 film in my opinion.. It is loosely based on certain events but the depiction on war is the best I've seen..😁

this is one of those films it takes getting used to. i watch a lot of war films and we're used to every soldier potrayed being likable or maybe an a-hole but they have redeeming qualities. and this film kind of shows the opposite of that. sure there are redeeming qualities of these guys but normans the new guy. they have been together since they landed in Europe. theyre goning to have their guard up because Norman isnt one of them. the dinner scene is like.... wtf we been with this guy since the invasion and he's giving special treatment to the guy we met a few days ago? then yeah through their experiences through the movie and realizing he can be trustworthy those barriers start to go down. like "okay. he experienced a taste of the pain we all felt when that girl got killed" "he unloaded on that german tank commander when we destroyed that tiger. he's one of us now" its one of those films that is very good at showing us what we dont really like to see.

Yes this is a film about DAT's and I do not mean distinguished armor technicians either! 😂 I happen to know a little bit about tank warfare because I was a former combat engineer so I make things go boom. Whenever you lose a track like that it's called throwing track and is one of the crappiest situations you can be in because it is nothing but nasty dirty work to put the track back together. You often carry extra track parts and track shoes on your tank for emergencies. Every war has its quirks and quarks, enough said.

The Tiger tank is shown going towards the Sherman tanks which is something no German tank commander would since the greatest advantage for the Germans is distance. A Tiger packed an 88 mm gun thus being able to take out a Sherman at 2000 meters. The Tiger closing the distance only begins to give the Shermans a better shot at taking it out. The other unrealistic scene is the disable Sherman killing so many Germans. They had to be really stupid German to do a feontal assault on a any tank. They had to do is come in behind the interior machine gun and blow the tank up. A tank by itself is a dead duck without infantry support.

A soldier must learn to be a killing machine for the sake of self preservation. They see so much slaughter and suffering that they become accustomed to it. One can take a long and hard look into their empty eyes and one will see what they have seen.

If these men and women didn't do what they did during that war we today may not even exist the world we live in would be far worse than the one we're in now and at this moment this world is horrible.. if we would have did what general Patton said to begin with the world would be a better place

So... I love this movie. But that tiger scene was so wrong. While the tiger was a heavy tank, fury was an easy 8 sherman. And one of the other shermans was an m4a1 76. The sherman easy 8 or m4a3e8 had a long barrell 76mm gun with about 141 millimeters of penetration with an ap/ aphe shell. Same with the m4a1 76. That gun was designed to pierce heavy front plate at low angle like the tigers front plate. The second fury or the a1 gun hit that front plate like in the scene, the tiger would have been eliminated

I am a World War 2 buff and amateur historian. I love Brad Pitt. But I can't get into this film. I don't know if it's the CGI Star Wars tracers or what it is. It just feels soulless to me, even though it has the only operational German Tiger tank left. Nothing like the caliber of Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers. It seems like Brad just wanted to make another war movie. Even "When Trumpets Fade" has more heart on a much lower budget.

This movie puts u in Norman's shoes, and takes u on his arc! Germany had much beter equipment than the allies. Better handguns, the had even AK style rifles, but not yet mass produced, better shoulder fired rockets, better tanks better planes. If they hadnt attacked Russia, and if the americans had won the battle of the Bulge, no way we win this war. Because they already had drone planes, were already working on mass producing jet fighters, and would have been nuclear by the end of 45. Sadly, Norman's prediction for Emma came true. best job i ever had means, i love u guys. Norman played the child in the great remake movie,3.10 to Yuma!! sort of based on a true story, the last battle. Type in here, Audie Murphy in WW2!

A fantastic WW2 movie you can't beat HACKSAW RIDGE. It is not based on a true story, it is a true story. Well, it's essence is a true story. We all know that Hollywood is prone to exaggerate the truth, but in this case they actually downplayed the real events. They had to because no one would believe what really happened. It is one of the few war movies that actually leaves you feeling good about life and humanity in general. Another historically accurate WW2 movie is MIDWAY. There are 2 versions, one released in 1972, the other in 2016. Strangely enough the history in both is exceptionally good. The only exception is the 70s version introduces some fictional characters while in the 2016 version all characters and events are authentic. The worst recent WW2 movie is PEARL HARBOR. The Russians have produced some really good WW2 flicks like PANILOV'S 28 & T-34. As far as I know, no one has reacted to either of these. The absolute best movie on the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, is TORA, TORA, TORA. If you want to experience the U-Boat part of the War from the German prospective DAS BOOT (sp?) is unbeatable. Good Vietnam war movie are HAMBURGER HILL & WE WERE SOLDIERS. WW1, FLY BOYS & THE RED BARON are good for the air part of that war, while ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT is the best antiwar war movie available (pick any of the 3 versions 1930s, 1970s, & 2020s). Going back in time there are some good 19th century era war films. GETTYSBURG is probably the best for the US Civil War. ZULU is good for the British war in S. Africa against that tribe. ZULU DAWN is entertaining enough but doesn't even come close as far as accuracy goes. There is a fair miniseries on the Spanish American War called ROUGH RIDERS. The movie THE PATRIOT is good for entertainment alone; historically it sucks.

You missed the best part of the movie when Bible was quoting Isaiah and war daddy knew the passage showing the whole time they were in the tank he was likely a God fearing man while Bible was trying to preach to him. You were talking during that scene and I feel like you missed the power of that moment

From a German point of view, the unbelievably worst war film I have seen in 40 years, it is such unbelievable Hollywood nonsense, there is absolutely nothing wrong, it is so disgusting to watch this film.. an entire SS/Wehrmacht battalion with veterans' Panzerfaust against a broken one Sherman, no German soldier during that time would have behaved as incredibly stupidly as in this film
