Hi, Lars . If you find the time you should do way more of these modeling tutorials. I learned more from these 2 (table and inj.mold )than all other tuts together. Especially the workflow with the copy and move command and point to point. Way faster then when I would do or did (make 1 tube of a certen length save it as a comp,then extrude or cut one for a other length save it as comp, and then drag them in as many as I need (if I need 4 tubes from a specific length I would draw 4 times that piece in) and do all joints. 4 times slower the your method. Thanks man. Same with the inj. mold ,love how you did that with the 4 sketchplanes and extruded instead of sketch each part separate on top of the other. Nice.

Thanks for the video, Lars! This helped out with designing my industrial inspired bookshelf. The "Paste New" option is exactly what I needed to "de-couple" the separate angle iron pieces and size them independently.

Great vid as usual. I actually had the chance to meet and work with Jimmy at the Saundersworks CNC classes. John's class got me past the learning curve with Fusion 360 and my Tormach. Great guy. Didn't know he was famous when I was hanging with him and now I'm honored to have had the chance to meet this trulel down to earth guy. BTW, since the classes, I am so busy running parts. Mainly for Energizer right now with some small nylon parts and I'm almost able to get a second Tormach in less than 7 months of owning my first!

Great Video Lars, Took me all afternoon to get it right as just little subtle things you were doing I missed so had to start over to pick them up. I noticed a few things on a Mac come up in different places/orders, like some of the text boxes. Would definitely like to do another one of these but starting with the 'parameters' set up.

As a new user to fusion, your videos are great. For designs like this however I'll revert to my native solidworks, the weldments feature seems much more efficient. Sketch the frame, assign the stock, define the corner finish, done.

Would be amazing if you make a tutorial making weldments at 45° and tube weldments. Many of us are used to SW weldment module and are moving to Fusion 360

hi Lars, thanks for this and all your other videos. I have gained a great deal of Fusion knowledge from your youtube channel. Loved your video about the Diresta workbench, and how to extract a parts list. One problem is when i followed along and tried to set up the workbench in Fusion i discovered it is not parametric. Please can you make a video on how to make a workbench where you can pull a parts list out, but where you can also change the height, width and length without the bench coming apart. It would be really useful once the drawing of the workbench is done if i could dial in various sizes so i can see which tables i can fit where! Just saying... Gracias

Instead of moving the bars 8 ft and 4 ft when copying, I think he should subtract the width of the bars so that he ends up with an 8’ x 4’ surface, edge to edge. That’ll make it much easier to find a standard sized sheet of plywood. With that being said, I really love his videos. He makes fusion 360 so approachable.

I did the same design yesterday, a steel table in Fusion 360, the only difference is that it took me slightly more than 10 minutes, hours to finish with it :D As I do not know any of the tricksn featuresn shortcuts etc :D

Hey Lars, all very helpful, thank you. Joints and the way they function are becoming more familiar, but coming from Solidworks I am struggling to work out how to edit a joint once made. This would be because components once placed, can require to be re-positioned occasionally. Can you do a small feature on this subject? Suppose we want to change the filet radius on all the steel tubing. Is there a way to set it up so that even the shorter pieces where you broke them away from the longer ones would get the updated filets?

Have recently downloaded Fusion 360, have gone through your beginners guide, aswell as some tutorials from other channels, really enjoyed your teaching style . Though I follow step by step some of the instructions just dont work as explained, and I get unwanted and unexpected results. I have been following the How to model, re the DiResta steel shop table. Begining to wonder ir there's a glitch in the software.

Hi Great videos, need some help though. When copying a component and then moving the result, how do I decided where the datum starts and the reposition ends? e.g. if I want a specific space between 2 cross members, simply typing "500mm" moves it 500 mmm but from where to where? and how would I control "500 mm gap between internal facing faces and not from both left sides of a box section. this way I keep getting 500 minus the dimension of my box section.

Lars: I love the video's been working my way through them, I've watched this one several times (a way newbee) and was designing a welding cart I just dimension down the scale to what I wanted. One question I have is I am making the table into an angle so the welder will be elevated up in the front. Is there a video you have that can point me into that direction? I'm trying to show an angle at the end of each tube for the side support so it butts up smooth against the legs. Again thanks for all the video's and looking forward for one of your face-time live events.

Hi Lars, doing well on this till I started bringing in the top using the Collinar feature. I can get 3 sides in but get an error that states to correct dimensions. Not sure how to find or correct it? Got a video that shows editing on this issue?

Surely adding the fillets into the sketch is "lighter" than adding to extra features afterwards, them being the fillets? This makes a big difference when you have 4000 pieces of steel so hence my question. To me this is important as Fusion does sadly not have a frame generator (yet - will keep hoping)

when i resized at 6:20 it moved my bar and had to set point to point again. sometimes i follow the tutorial but its sometimes different. like when i extrude it stays in 2d and i have to move the camera angle manually

Hello and thank you for this video! I designed a table using this video, but now that it is finished, I decided I want to make the sides smaller than what I stated with. I have tried several methods, but every time I go to modify the length of the sides, it throws the whole design out of “whack” and I am unable to recover easily. I am assuming all the copied components, the rigid groups, and joints are what is causing everything to move around and go haywire, so is there a simple way to change the lengths of the sides without having to start over? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

at about 6:15 when I create the new object and make it 45 inches long, it completely jumps to Square Tube 2. Somehow it loses the connection it had with Tube 1. Thoughts?

Hello Lars, thanks a lot for another very instructive video. I'm still new to Fusion and I do learn a new thing in every single video of you. But I have one question, I cannot find an answer for, neither in your videos like this, or the 80/20 aluminium profile nor the tube chassis video. If I e.g. import an aluminium rail part from Mc Master-Carr or another parts library it already is extruded into 3D space. Is it somehow possible to scale that one to a specific length by entering its dimensions? So maybe the one from McMaster-Carr is 1 inch but I need 2.25 inch. Is it possible to enter this 2.25 inch or do I have to add 1.25 inch? I just want to enter the final "length" of a rail, but I cannot find a way to do. Scaling is using a factor and extruding is using a distance. But none is using dimensions. At least I cannot find, how. If you explain that way in one of your videos, just post the link, that would help a lot! Many thanks in advance!

One way I've found is to extrude the profile into a new body or Component and remove (not delete!) the original.

excellent tutorial. what happens if you lengthen the width of the table. Will the position of the legs e.g. pattern command dimensions change too or will I have to manually pattern the leg positions?

If you double click the material under "In This Design", you get some options for it. One of them is rotation! :)

Hi Robin, I would use the same technique, then make the legs cross each other and use the Combine tool to cut the pieces to fit

Well, The rookie figured out the collinear issue I was having. It won't work if you don't have the plain on the top of the table you are trying to work on for your next sketch. once I figure out what I was doing wrong all 4 sides were working to draw into place. In fact the end of the table plain is also not right but doesn't affect what i'm doing so far on this project. I know how to correct it now either way. So hope this helps anyone else struggling with this to move on.

As a long time Inventor user at work as an M.E., I really miss frame generator and sheet metal tools in fusion 360. Big fan of Fusion 360 and use it all the time in my personal projects, just wish it did frame generator and sheet metal.

Hi Lars. Thanks for the tutorial. As a new user on Fusion 360 this gave me lots of information on general functionality. I'm also a total newbie using the parametric concept of Fusion (I've been using SketchUp for the last decade or so, and needed to move ahead). I see you place/move and rotate components using plain number, and sometimes just guess move distances and so on. So how do I change the general size of the table? Or change the iron bar dimension for example? Is that some other workflow, or am I missing something?

Hi again. Thanks for your answer, and yes I've seen video 1+2+3 so I'm aware how to go back and edit parts in the "timeline". I found another video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a8tohNmg2c6qj5s.html that kind of describe what I was thinking about. To define the general size beforehand, and then use these values as variables for each part placement and size. But defining a list of variables is not really visual or simple either. There might be even better ways... I would like it to be even less manual calculation. Maybe define a outline construction sketch with some overall dimension and then align part placement and dimensions from that. I'm just trying to wrap my head around some workflow that let me change some dimension and everything will just follow and be adjusted accordingly? For example, if I wanted to modify your design and use another steel profile, like 2x2" instead. I would like to just modify one master steel profile, but now I need to edit multiple component instances, and I probably need to move components back into place again because alignment will break in the process (similar problem as with SketchUp)...

I’ve watched several videos for fusion 360 trying to find how we model in welds. Do we only notate welds in the drawings instead? I’m still new to Fusion so I apologize if this is a noob question. I’m not an engineer by trade, I’m a welder, so I’m trying to figure this out as I’m working on my own projects. TIA

I came to this video with the same question. I'm the opposite, I'm an engineer, not a welder, but I want to make sure the drawing has the right info for the welder. They way I'm going to do it is the same as Lars in this video (model the "welds" with a rigid joint), and I will add the welding symbols in the 2D drawing. Disclaimer: I don't have any clue what I'm doing with F360, don't listen to me.

Make sure you create a new component before making the sketch as in 1:05 ... I didn't do this and therefore couldn't edit the pasted component. Took me ages to figure this out.

Anthony Sozio It was a video on the Diresta table that came out shortly after the Diresta table video was published. I just checked and Lars previous video was on the parts list for this table. Chris
