It was a great fusion of horror and action (and sci-fi and thriller). But it didn't introduce the concept. Horror has always had lots of action I think. Think about a chase scene in any slasher film. Or creature films, they are full of action scenes.

Yeah, the music turned out great but Horner vowed to never work with James Cameron and his ex-wife again after he was treated like shit. In fairness to Cameron, they were all under pressure to meet the studio's deadline so the constant delays caused by the British filming crew at Pinewood studios may have contributed to the added stress of composing the music-score to this epic film.

This music almost perfectly encapsulates the listener in a web of terror when this part begins, the tang of cold sweat and wild panic hit my throat when I saw this as a kid. Jesus, when the xenos just fall into 'em like a nightmare and the squad of ultimate badasses are instantly in a fuckin' shitstorm. Always thought the helmet-cam shots added a ton to it, running mad between interference. "..WHERE'S APONE? WHERE'S APONE??!" " Sarge is gone, let's get the FUCK outta here!" " *HUDSON, LOOK OUT!!*" "Kill it!" and you could hear what was happening, but you just couldn't see..

I'm so sorry we've lost James Horner... he's added considerably to the continuing evolution of a unique American sound for orchestra. What torture he endured to produce this worthy successor to Goldsmith's brilliant work. It's so sad in a way that something so beautiful, so moving, so powerful... has our attention divided between it and the stunning visuals of a modern film masterpiece. The two need each other, certainly, but how fortunate we are that the music can be recreated in a concert hall to be delved into and appreciated fully while we still remember the story it helped tell. Breathtaking.

Being a fan of the original Star Trek, a friend of mine introduced me to James Horner's soundtrack from Aliens in which my friend had written a sequal story. He asked me to read his idea for a sequal story while playing back the soundtrack. Although, I had seen the movie a few years before, playing the music brought me right back to the thrills and horror that I felt while reading his proposed story. Thats the genius of Horner's music...without pictures or video, you can feel it in listening to his music soundtrack. Without it, this movie would not have stood out, even though the acting was great! RIP James Horner. You made movies more memorable, thanks to your vivid, inspirational soundtracks!

for the real Aliens theme Jack Horner conducted the entire london philharmonic in one single take, no breaks.. they had run out of time and money.. So he had James Camerons final edit projected on the screen overhead in the recording studio, so a little know fact is that - > the whole of the Aliens films music < - is a recording of a SINGLE LIVE PERFORMANCE IN REAL TIME BY JAMES HORNER (i.e. recorded live, in one go, the whole film, no interupts), and yes, this is actually true

The melodic part of horror . Only Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner could do that . The motivic blasts of the Horn phalanx ( 6 Horns ) , are outstanding . And only 2 trombones , one tenor and one bass , rare in a Horner' s score . Maybe was the choice of mr. Navarro . I think the original brass section of the score has 6 horns , 3 Trumpets, 5 Trombones ( 3 Tenor / 2 Basses ), 2 Tubas . I love the anvil clangs , is the common mark of the orchestration by James Horner and Concert Toms too with the low octaves of the pianos ! Usually 2 or 3 pianos in the orchestration as a percussive sound ! In Aliens score had 2 pianos with 2 harps blending together . Jerry Goldsmith from the other part uses a lot Roto toms !

This and Terminator 2 are in my opinion Hollywood at its best. Well made, entertaining action blockbusters that stand the test of time. Now all we have is a complete lack of creativity and endless reboots.

Wow. As creeped out and as scared out of my mind as I was when I saw this in the theaters, over time this movie has the familiarity of a lifelong friend. Now decades later, just when I thought I couldn't possibly appreciate it any more, this comes along in my recommendations. James Horner, you were a passionate master of your craft, and James Cameron, thanks for willing into existence a sequel to a classic that will forever be remembered as an unrelenting nail-biting roller-coaster ride of beautiful adrenalized terror. Just g**damn wow.

I saw it first as a kid in the 90's, freaked me out first time, soon watched hundreds of times on vhs. Finally saw it in the theater in 2016 with a packed theater full of people who knew most every line, cheering anyway, much like a long lost friend was in from out of town and we were celebrating. Standing screaming ovation when Ripley gets off the elevator to rescue Newt. My goodness was that fun.

A very mean, aggressive and tense piece of music and so badass. I like how the horns can tower so powerfully over the rest of the orchestra at 1:32. Something Basil Poledouris used to great effect for the Conan The Barbarian soundtrack which uses a 12 piece horn section for some tracks.

It didn’t live up to the original. What is up with the cute little fiddlely noises in :2:04? It sounded like a kids movie or something. I couldn’t listen to it.
@JeremyFrancispiano
@JeremyFrancispiano 5 жыл бұрын
@@EvanBPeters i would actually assume it is because it is "too rehearsed" in this performance. Much of what we hear on soundtracks is music being sightread by the orchestra as they are recording it. When you passages like what we hear at 2:04, the "unrehearsed" version has a "looser" quality that captures the subtle "free-ness" characteristic better than performers who have probably rehearsed it rigidly for several weeks.
