Love your videos, very informative. Futures fin box installation along with Nut placement while re-locating a leg back into the pelvis. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

Your workmanship is always a pleasure to watch, as are your presentations. Thank you. I like the Futures centre finbox, as the fins are almost always perfectly vertical without buggering around. When I glass mine, I sand the top off the box first to allow a full thickness of glass right to the edge of the slot. It stops the difficulty you mentioned re laying the glass into the hard corner. I will try you method next time, as my method requires careful sanding of the box without cutting into the board. Something I have done on numerous occasions.

The box sat so well with that flange, the dummy fin stood perfectly verticle easily! Definitely with a repair, I usually would've sanded the box flat once it was installed, before I laminated it. Was interested to know how the glassing would go though as the next one I do will be going into a fresh blank

Great video as usual. I may make a jig for routing a Futures long box. Does that router have a dust collection port? Didn’t see one. I have a Porter Cable plunge router that does which I really appreciate. 🤙🏼🐾

@@allsurf yea, now that it’s in my hands doesn’t seem too hard to make. I think Andrew W has a video on making them. I haven’t watched it myself but sure I’ve seen the thumbnail. The router does have a dust collection fitting that I’m yet to try but definitely will on the next one

Sorry for the late reply. I was waiting till I had a go at them. Yes. Worth the money. I was using a home made jig. This is much better. I also like the Ryobi router. So far. @@smallkinedings

I've only built one board & used a guide I found online about 2010. I struggled with the little details like glassing over the fin box and getting the glass to conform. Your thorough explanation of everything including the small details is greatly appreciated! I made it for my daughter but it took her years to ride it for fear of scratching or dinging it (LOL) but she loves it now. 🤙

Love your work.. tip for you on the router depth setting. turn the router upside down place the jig on the base of the router and then take a fin box also turn it upside down and place it next to the router bit and set your depth. use the depth stop to set that the router only goes that far down. hope this makes sense.....
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings 8 ай бұрын
That is certainly the method with the laminate trimmer but I think that would be pretty difficult to do with the plunge router?
@H2OSURFDESIGNS-tv8pg
@H2OSURFDESIGNS-tv8pg 8 ай бұрын
@@smallkinedings yes true but you should have a depth stop on the top side of the router, some have a micro adjustment as well. i set my cutting depth then lock the router on the side with the locking clips. then i turn the depth stop on the top side till it touches. then the depth is set and when you plunge you cant go past that set depth.

Yes, it is a useful video. Again. Your dexterity, though, makes everything look simple. I am quite sure I would benefit a router with a round base. Or, with a base like your Ryobi, I would probably have to use it turned by 90 degrees, so that the flat sides would be in contact with the guides.
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings 9 ай бұрын
I was a bit concerned about the shape of the base as well but did some testing and even if rotate the router almost 90 degrees it still drops the dowel straight down onto the marks
@allsurf
@allsurf 9 ай бұрын
Typically, a rounded base is recommended so that dust doesn’t impede the movement.

Yea, have dine a couple since and it definitely makes chasing airbubbles a non issue! Actually gonna send that to futures as I'm sure they could do that in the cnc process

@smallkinedings 9 ай бұрын
Cheers, glad it's helpful! For longboard boxes like this one I would definitely go with the futures kit. Everything you need all in one box (aside from the router) where as FCS you kind of have to hunt down all the individual pieces and I found there really isn't any support or guide lines on how the system is supposed to work
