FW190D-9 vs P47D & A20B - IL-2 Sturmovik: Bodenplatte, Tank Crew Clash at Prokhorovka map

5 жыл бұрынSo here's my first dogfight vid flying the Dora in IL-2 and its against the P47D and A20B and its on the new Prokhorovka tanks map. I did quite a few attempts at this before I captured one attempt, but basically I wasnt able to hit anything with the R4M's, but as a dogfighter the Dora is way better than the 47 and provided I use guns only and go in fast, the A20B's are no big risk.

A brilliant video froggy. Once again you show why this is the best ww2 sim by a mile. Quite cool to see that debris and wreckage is able to cause damage to you after aircraft has been shot down.

Amazing! Quick questions, at what realism level was this game set at when u played? And can that be increased further? I ask because I’m interested in playing it at max realism and although it looked quite fun, some maneuvers towards the end seemed a bit fantastical. Thanks for posting it.

Yes, except for MP where you can join a server that is hosting that map. For SP you need to own Tank Crew.

The skins on these new planes are 4k and Im at 144op which is the next step down from 4k, so yes some elements are 4k or close to. Cheers, yeh its pretty amazing haha.

haha yeh its the wingspan of the listed aircraft to adjust the gun sight, for example, if a bomber has a winspan of 25 meters, you set 25 on you sight and then you decide what range you want and set that ie 500 meters or 100 meters etc. Then once the wingtips of the target fill the reticle you know you will score some hits.

The aircraft was stationed at me 262 fields to defend the 262's while taking off and landing, when they were most vulnerable. The bottom paint scheme was to identify it so anti aircraft guns wouldn't shoot at it by mistake.

Due to shortages of metal supply, the germans used wooden propellars late in the war. This also wouldn't break or bent the crankshaft of the engine and thus making the engine reusable, in case of emergency wheel up landings...

Wel I chopped the tail clean off that thunderbolt by firing at it with several cannon and heavy MG - that tail would have colided with thw prop and my tail plane for as well...

Dear Il2 Pilots; I'm a DCS Pilot, and I love the WW2 birds.. except that some planes in DCS are almost unlandable and are very difficult to not stall all the time in dogfights. How is IL2 compared to that? easier? more enjoyable?

Name a DCS module that is not "landable". They are all fine flight models that do take a bit of time to learn, but they are all excellent. IL2 BOS etc., I own almost all of them, and they are very detailed but honestly the DCS WWII planes are of higher fidelity. It is worth the time and effort to fly them correctly if you like that sort of thing.

Hi Cult, very simply - DCS is excellent with modern aircrafts, but DCS WWII is not so good as IL2 GB series. Of course it is only my personal opinion. I have all modules for DCS (F14 included :)) and i can compare Dora and Kurfurst as well. D9 and K4 in IL2 have not clicable cockpit, but in all other things are better than the same planes in DCS. Big difference is in MP - never saw in DCS so great battles like in IL2 servers. DCS is rather an aircraft systems trainer while IL2GB focuses on simulating the flight itself. DCS is a great game without any doubt, but IL2 is simply more fun. As I wrote above, it's just my personal opinion. P. S. Sorry for my scarry english.

The dreaded tip stall. Some planes are worse than others. After a while you notice the onset early and avoid a full stall. The P51 is a reet bastud for it, and gives no warning. The Me109K4 is quite benign, but the Tempest V is the best in the turning dogfight.

In servers the things are much differents .Try for example the Berloga server and see what it will be happen.But the point is that was an exxelent plane and if hit the enemy with this weapons there is no luck for the enemy.

Is the P-47 really that bad in comparison to this bird? I mean it I know its speed advantage is negated at low alts but at high speeds it should outturn the dora, as FW190s were notorious for their high wing loading and attrocious turning...

I think the D was supposed to have slightly better turn characteristics than the A owing to the longer wing. That said, FW190A pilots said that if flown with determination, a FW190A could successfully turn with a Spitfire, so the initial turn would not be such an issue. Frog only engaged for a partial turn and coming in from behind, so the overall turning capability might not be such an issue in that tactical situation. :)

The P-47 always gets a bad rap because the engine is so under-rated. The P-47D was rated at 62" of Mercury. But, read about Johnson or any other pilot of the era, they routinely boosted to 72 inches of mercury. Johnson said at 32,000 feet he could do 470 mph in a P-47D-5. Many others said the sam thing. P&W rated the engine at 62" so they could guarantee payment but they knew it would take over 70". There reps went out to the field and told the P-47 mechanics how to tune up the turbo waste gates to get it

So far ,in my experience, the Dora 9 is the best performing fighter in the sim although it is a bit twitchy in tight high speed turns. Flying any German fighter,( including the Me110 !!) I can pretty much control the engagement. When flying the 'Bolt it seems if I do anything but B&Z I find myself struggling for altitude .

@Petr Vrána An aircraft without an engine is not a glider. I've been on board an aircraft losing his engines, its amazing how much altitude it loses and you have to find a place to land quickly, everything is a one shot deal.

When landing this way pilots shooting cannons - speed down faster ( if have bullets in it) Machine guns are useless. Nope , dora too heavy and weak motor - la5fn on the top ww2. And may be better all american & english jugers
