Thanks for diving into this. As an artist in his early 30s not having a solid retirement plan etc. this kind of stuff is gold :) Any chance you can share resources you've enjoyed on these matters in the future? Also! I'd suggest a video on everyday budgeting.

That depends on your lifestyle a bit, but for me I spend around $3,000/month. A good chunk of that is rent and utilities. I’ll make a video with a more detailed budget breakdown. And insight into how to calculate your saving rate as that is an important measurement.

Hi pete, are you certain this data is real?? Because i am currently an upper junior and making 7.5k usd only... as an FX artist...should i ask for a raise?? And all that in an MNC ... bid named company behind movies like venom 2 and james bond etc

There is good money to be made in games as well. But it will take a while to get up to mid to expert level. I only see an increasing demand for tech artist with Houdini skills in the future. The next gen datasets require some help from procedural approaches for content generation and layout of that content.

It's worth it. Its about staying in the industry and growing your skills to stay relevant. You can make a good living with this.

If you keep thinking about money then it will never be worth it, if you love houdini and fx only then you can cross the initial struggling years and reach somewhere really good, all the best

@Ron By that logic, you're totally right, but I do wonder cause Ive been having shitty works. I want to be able to provide to myself and have my own place and stuff. Y'know. Very interesting, but not very optimistic as I said. Curious why its 2080 work hours if we even do not subtract holidays, 40h/week*4 * 12 months = 1920 hours ?

there's a little more than 4 weeks in a month... but there's always 52 weeks in a year... so 40h/week * 52 weeks = 2080 hours

Can you explain why from 2000 to 2014 homes were almost the same price and did not change much, but in last 5 years cost of a home almost doubled? And how it affect salaries, and what do you think about correction regarding covid?
