素晴らしい解説回でした。頼りになります。 間違えるは、いつもしっくりしないので困ってました。 mistake（殆ど名詞として使われる） make a mistake、、、気持ち音の連なりですね the wrong 〜、、、楽ちん 〜wrong、、、はっ by mistake、、、おっ make the mistake of〜、、、これはofの後ろをどうするか、ちょっと躊躇します mistake A for B（唯一の動詞のmistake）、、、はぇ〜 mess up、screw up、、、しょっちゅうmess upしてます。

メルマガのひとこと英会話にしろ毎回の動画にしても何度も何度も同じことを繰り返して頂いて毎回新しい表現を学んでいても自然と前回の復習（奇跡の応用ですね）が出来るようになっていて、本当に有難うございます。 質問ですが、I got the Namboku line out of habit. 今回のI got the wrong train. このgetの使い方は自動詞として使うならget on でも使えるという事でいいんでしょうか？

I know this is the kind of slang but is this also used in the daily conversation as the same meaning? Second question, Can mess up or screw up be used as nouns? ex. I did a mess-up at work. I did a screw-up at a presentation. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to getting answer from you.

先生！ひとつ質問があります！ You never looked better.を応用してたとえばYou never smelled worse.とかIt never tasted stranger.などとすることは可能ですか？ つまりnever + 五感動詞過去形 + 形容詞比較級というふうに。

mistake him for my friendは、日本語で間違えたという場合、2通りの解釈が出来るのですが、英語ではどうなのかお聞きしたいです。 1.彼を自分の友人と見間違えた 2.彼の事を友人だと思っていたが実際は、そうではなかった。自分では勝手に彼を友人と認識していたが実はそうではなかった。つまりお互いの認識にズレがあった。 日本語は、high contextな言語なのでこういう所が本当に難しい。

先日アメリカ人の方が "I was mistaken." を使ってました。私は初めて聞いたのですが、I made a mistake. と違って I was wrong in what I believed. 「正しいと思ってたことがまちがっていた」という意味ですかね？または「ずっと誤解していた」みたいな。

Hi Nick sensei, I made a skit. A: Oh! I made a mistake. We should have gotten off at Kanda. B: It's common to get off at the wrong station. Do we need to turn back? A: We can take the Ginza line from Tokyo Station. It doesn't differ much from using Kanda to reach Asakusa. Just a moment. Would you like to visit the Imperial Palace before heading to Asakusa? B: That sounds nice. I haven't been there before. It seems like that mistake worked out well.

いつも本当に1番学べる動画をありがとうございます！いつも動画開始と同時にイイネを押しています。良いことが始めからわかっているから。 ところで、 I made a mistake だと mistake が目的語になるから、これ以上は続けることはできないことでしたが、もし最後の例文の場合、 I made a mistake of presentation/ in presentation のようにすることは可能なのでしょうか？ 動画の中にも mistake of の言い回しがあったので気になりました。 もし宜しかったら、教えて頂けたらとても嬉しいです。 いつもありがとうございます！

I made a mistake in the presentation.は可能ですね。 目的語じゃなくて「プレゼンの中で」のような感じですけど。 「I made a mistake of presentation」は不可能ですね。 I made the mistake of trusting him.の場合「信用したことが間違いだった」という意味です。 「プレズンをしたことが間違いだった」という意味になってしまいますね。

「She thought my present wrong.」←これは違います。「文＋wrong」は「やり方を間違える」という意味でしたね。「think ~ wrong」という表現はないんですけど、２つ目の She mistook my present for romantic interest. は正解ですね^^

I always wonder how I should say “I misunderstood her words. I couldn’t listen to her English well”. People understand it, but I don’t think it’s the right phrase. Is using “misunderstand” a lot the right way? Can I also use “I got the wrong idea?” for this situation? Like “You got the wrong idea because of my poor English. I didn’t mean that!.”

@@nicwilliamson I make comedy skits, not videos. Nic-sensei seems to be interested, so I'll introduce the first one I made. Wednesday, 31 August 2022 I learned how to use 'come with...' on the net this morning. It gave me an example sentence, "Does it come with soup?" I could use it at a restaurant. I think it's just a typical example. However, I'd like to make more fun example sentences. And I did it. It's in the skit below. SKIT A conversation between a still-single customer and a clerk at a real estate agency Clerk: I recommend this house with an ocean view. Customer: Great! Um. Does it come with a lady who would be my wife? Haha. I'm just kidding. Clerk: Yes, of course. On top of that, it comes with two children. I'm serious. We're having a promotion now. While making this skit, I hoped these four could live happily ever after. I started doing this in August of last year, so I have a lot of comedy skits in my note book.

日本語だと「xxxを間違えた」が英語だと「got wrong xxx = 間違ったxxxを得た」のように名詞を修飾するのがより自然なのって、「xxxする人が多い／少ない」が英語だと「many/few people do xxx」となるのと似ていて、この感覚に慣れるのにかなり苦労してます。このあたり是非Nickさんに深堀りしてほしいです。 【例文】 I mistook him for a friend of mine and bumped into him. What on earth did I go wrong? Please correct me if I said something wrong. I made the mistake of being too reserved and giving the impression of being passive-aggressive.

質問なんですけど、 ニック先生は"I sent the wrong file"という英文を「送るファイルを間違えた」と訳していましたが「間違ったファイルを送った」という訳にはなりませんか？ 自分としてはwrongは動詞として使われてないのに「送るファイルを"間違えた"」という形で終わっている所がどうもムズムズします😥 長文すみません

この使い方は「やり方を間違える」という使い方でしたね^^ 誤ってメールした場合は「I texted her by mistake.」「I texted her by accident.」の方がいいですね^^ 又は、動画では言ってなかったけど「I accidentally texted her.」もOKですね^^

I messed up booking a flight online last night. I entered the wrong date and hit the “OK” button. I wondered why I made this mistake. I contacted the airline company and told them that I had booked the wrong flight by accident. They cancelled the flight for me and I got a refund. Phew 😅

I got the wrong train. など、いつもthe wrong となっていますが、a wrong ということはできないのでしょうか？正しい電車は一つだけど、間違った電車はたくさんあるはずなのに、どうしてtheなのかなぁといつも思います。😢

複数の電車に間違えて乗ってしまって、そのうちの不特定の一つを指すならa wrong trainでもいい気がしますけど、普通は特定の一つだからthe wrong trainじゃないんですかね。

Excellent examples!!😃👍 Just 2 mistakes: I made the mistake of getting him angry. （get him angryで”彼を怒らせる”ですね。him getting angryだと”彼が怒る”になります） I made the mistake of emailing him. （ケアレスミスだと思いますけど、動詞にingが必要ですね) Great job!!
