I watched chamber orchestras performing this amazing piece without a bass, and with my conclusion, this proves that bass is the pure definition of being the foundation of music.

Armchair_Warriror Right, a lot of people, mostly the ones that are not in a Orchestra think that Double Basses and Violas are useless, but you can really hear the difference.

Daria Lappi Yesss. I’m playing in my youth orchestra, my highschool played it last year but I wasn’t there to experience it because I’m a freshman this year. I have an ensemble of 8 people that I might want to play it, its a lot of fun

Lol, the first two commets makes me feel depressed. The orchestra I'm in probably can't play this piece and we are in high school but we aren't one of the rich city's so it makes some sense why. One of the greatest thing about the orchestra I'm in is the fact that we dont have any violas🙃

yes - he's done such a fantastic job that his job is rendered almost unnecessary. no need to over-conduct a tiny ensemble like this. - shows that he has complete confidence in the musicians to find their own stride, with only a little gentle directing from himself. - a man who knows his place in the ensemble.

Magnificent. All these somewhat negative comments about the conductor is really unfounded. Consider him the Coach of a team, In this case the "team" being this musical ensemble. How Many countless hours did he spend with these talented musicians (during rehearsals) bringing forth the best performance from each and every player before they even sat before a live audience. With that said, lets all partake in the pleasure of playing the suite again.

l agree entirely with James Lochard, Only long rehearsal could have led to this polished and seemingly effortless performance and the conductor's enthusiasm and love for the piece became increasingly obvious towards the finale.

I've always thought that although this piece is a fine piece, when played against the counterpart from "Second Suite in F," it loses the tone colors from the military band setting. Strings are lovely and this piece is still fantastic in any setting it's in, but it needs the other colors to really shine.

skyler: it is seamless when they change into the separate time signatures and it doesnt sound like two different songs. If we really work on getting our notes down we could sound like this at a slower tempo.

A conductor can sometimes act less as a metronome for the orchestra in actual performance and moreso the creative mind behind a rendition of a song. They'll always do at least a bit of both jobs, but sometimes it just ends up that most of their work is behind the scenes.
