This comeback came at such a fantastic time for me. I've been struggling with my image, acne, thin body, and always thinking I'm not pretty in every angle and I actually started crying when I read the lyrics to these two wonderful songs. As girls, we always think everyone is prettier than us but it's simply not true. Gidle made a fantastic comeback!

Queencard was so full of Y2K movie camp tropes... Wild things happen that don't make sense then.... it was all a dream! Then they throw in the trope of ... "or was it?". A funny and fun banger that goes against brand in a clever way. Two thumbs up (G)I-dle!

LET'S GET RIGHT INTO THIS

It took me days, but I finally figured it out. Soyeons dilema: How do I make a fun, silly, and dumb song that is totally off brand for (G)I-dle? Answer: Set the song in campy Y2k movie universe then say it was all a dream. Tons of pop culture references in both videos. Allergy sets us up with our Y2K movie universe theme using the common Y2K trope of ugly girl (actually pretty girl with glasses, mussed hair, and baggy clothes) wishes she was pretty and popular like the other girls. She tries and fails a couple times but eventually she takes off her glasses and fixes her hair and gets cool clothes and becomes a popular/pretty girl. Then she learns that being pretty and popular isn't so great after all, so she goes back to being a normal girl but now, after seeing that the grass isn't necessarily greener on the other side, she is happy just being herself. The end. In "Allergy" the answer is plastic surgery instead of removing glass, ect... At the end of "Allergy" we see Soyeon about to go under anesthesia for her procedures that will make her pretty and popular. In "Queencard", we pick up at the point where the doctors are applying the anesthesia. Now we're in a drug induced dream world where Soyeon is living the life of a popular/pretty girl. The lyric "I'm a quinka" repeats over and over. ("Quinka" or Queenca" is Korean slang from Y2K meaning "popular girl" or "it girl") In her dream, Soyeon is a "Queenca". Her English lyrics that were actually pretty good in "Allergy" are now all drunken and comically bad (I mean, they are purposefully bad). The scenes are chaotic and wild, they rewind, backgrounds are blurry, they intermix the doctors who are standing around her as doing dance moves, the group members faces change into other members. We see more tropey Y2K movie scenes. Girl looks hot with wet hair as she emerges from the swimming pool. Dance battle at the club. All campy movie tropes. Finally, in the ending chorus of the song, the group is dancing in the hospital (reality is getting closer to her as she regains consciousness). The lyrics "Wearing whatever girl - Queencard", "Thick or thin girl - Queencard", "Full of confidence girl - Queencard". We see Miyeon leaning over her as she wakes up telling her (paraphrasing) "this is what it means to be a Queencard". Soyeon pops awake before the plastic surgery and leaves the hospital. She is now confident that she is a "Queenca" and we can see it in the way she walks, holds her shoulders back, and the expression on her face. (great acting by the way to go from frumpy and unconfident to beautiful and confident without changing anything about her make-up or clothes). This was the common Y2K movie trope of "it was all just a dream". but then we get another trope from those times when Soyeon starts getting likes and follows on an insta photo that seems to be from the dream. it's the "it was all just a dream - or was it?!?!" trope that was pretty common in Y2K movies also. So, Soyeon got to have her fun, silly, dumb bop without it changing the groups brand... or did it?!?!? Pure genius.

I really liked these two songs and the story of the videos. Idle doesn't just make quality music, they always have such good videos!

OH MY GOODNESS YES YES!! So sorry I'm late I've been very busy lately (I'm getting ready to graduate and man it's chaos), dude this whole comeback and both songs were insane and had my jaw dropped to the floor both are so catchy- and Allergy when you read the lyrics you are like "Wow, this hits home-" or "This is actually really sad..." this is actually a masterpiece (also I wish I was that man, he is so lucky) it is amazing just everything though I think I like Queencard a little bit better! In Allergy dude Miyeon in this is just GORGEOUS- she's been killing it lately (She already has been but wow) and her Vocals are absolutely insane she definitely deserves more recognition, Minnie like WOW she has been killing me lately like full blown choke hold not only with her Vocals but her visuals and just again everything (this is why I can't pick a bias), Soyeon is legit one of the best Rappers in the industry and personally one of my favorites (along with Moonbyul and Dami, etc)- not to mention her visuals are INSANE (not only in here but overall), Yuqi JUST WOW she's been trying to kill me and that's not me being over dramatic (She is very cute but when she wants to she can be very sexy) and again her vocals are AMAZING, and Shuhua... WHAT DID THEY DO TO SHUHUA after Soojin left (I still hate CUBE for that) she's been going off and her teacher outfit in here is phenomenal and that just had me on the floor- this is definitely her era! Miyeon had me by the throat... again and her Vocals are always so stunning and her in that black outfit- HOW DOES SHE LOOK LIKE THAT and black definitely suits her very well, Minnie Bro she did not have to do that and her voice and her walking at us at the beginning was personal that was not okay and her on the first chorus had me DEAD (to be Honest I wasn't sure what she said until I heard Yuqi because I didn't have the captions yet), Soyeon really wanted to kill us in this one (though she wasn't in it as much) her coming out of that pool like that was really not necessary and her at the end just walking like that (and her twerking...), Yuqi NOPE NOPE SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE CUTE WHAT WAS THIS- that was lethal and at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="412">6:52</a> (also understandable reaction) HELLO MA'AM you did not have to do that... that was insanely rude and her deep voice had me, again... SHUHUA DID NOT HAVE TO DO THIS the way she was dancing and her Vocals have gotten so much better over the years and her visuals had me on the floor (her in that dress at the beginning was illegal)!
