I had the Tomahawk too, then my mother threw them out. All of my cool G.I.JOE toys from 1982'-86'. Such a pity, but now I'm re-collecting all of these toy lines. A little pricey, but definitely worth it and the memories come flooding back. Now my kids all love the collections I'm restoring! Thanks Mike... if you had lived in my neighborhood as a kid we would have probably played with all this stuff together!

There's no need for a tandem-rotor helicopter to have a fenestron, the tail-rotor. The second rotor would counter-rotate and keep the aircraft from spinning. That's why a Chinook doesn't have one. Good video

I recently started selling a lot of my GI joe figures and vehicles from 1984 and later. I'm attempting to focus on 82-83 figures and vehicles. I'm after those Reagan era army green toys that I originally fell in love with. The original Arah joes were like green army men but better.

I loved Sci Fi. The direction Gi Joe went was Amazing. The Dreadnoughts. I loved the movie with Nemesis that figure is one of the all time best. B A.T.S blew my mind beautiful figure. I got B.A.T.S from S.F FAO Swartz's. I remember opening him on the bus.The first wave of figures classic. Very dear memory's of the first line up. Gi Joe was riding a perfect wave the hole way. I was there from day one with the 3.75 line and the last of my friends I stayed with gi Joe when it was sad I was the only one during high school. But they keep bringing the hits. I loved it all. I'm not a army buff but I loved Gi Joe.

I had the hovercraft (my greatest playset/vehicle) and my helicopter was the Dragonfly, I had so many hours of playing time it was all around my toys back in the day. Not even atari or the rising of nintendo could top that.

I also had the Dragonfly and I LUVED IT! I mean it was a fast attack helicopter that could hold four Joes, had plenty of firepower, a hook & winch, and there was thumb trigger switch for the propeller to rotate. And Wild Bill was a great figure. I loved his look, despite you couldn't take off his hat he'd fit in any vehicle you had. I also remember buying on the same day the Polar Bear and Snow Job which was great pairing and had a super real military look despite being almost all white. But hell you wouldn't want desert camo in the artic. lol

I had at the Tomahawk. I was Cobra fan, and most of my toys and story lines revolved around them, but the Tomahawk was so cool I used it with them. I usually had various Cobra guys escape from HQ and take the Tomahawk to get away. It'd take fire, and eventually crash land (because it was too big to play with in the house for very long) and would be there shelter as they fought off the pursuing Joes.

Hey. So I had one of these for Christmas in the UK, around '89. It was brilliant as it was so dynamic. Many moving parts and ways for the figures to interact with it. Unfortunately, I broke the winch on assembly. You had to click pieces together on the winder but they snapped. It came with a bubble wrap envelope full of figures too, which really boosted my cast of characters to play with for many years. Lifeline & Muskrat were among them. It must have been a store exclusive with Argos as I picked it out of that catalogue, after obsessing over the pictures for months. The helicopter lasted years. Canopy hinge did too. Many of the blades broke off but were super glued back on. It was a robust toy. Looked realistic compared to the others of the time. And was featured in the movie. Its rotting in a landfill now sadly. Over time, all of my Action Force (as they were called in the UK) were bined. RIP Tomahawk. Nice video.

The two Joe vehicles I always wanted were the MOBAT and the Mauler tanks. For some reason I never owner either one. I did have the Dragonfly, Tomahawk, Sky Striker, and the Conquest X-30. The Tomahawk and Sky Striker were my favorite Joe aircraft. The best GI Joe comic IMO was the issue that focused on full length dogfight between Ace in the Sky Striker and Wild Weasel in the Rattler. Not sure which issue it was, but I loved it as a kid..

Nice observation about the Tomahawk being the last true military GI Joe vehicle, during that prime time anyway. I didn't ask for the Tomahawk for Christmas but got it and accidentally broke off all the rear rotors barely two days later. Being stuck with strictly STAR WARS for so long, I didn't start getting GI Joe until the end of 1984 thanks to a birthday present so it was 1986 when my collecting became full-on and that is the one production year from which I got all the figures. I feel like I missed out a bit by not getting the major GI Joe toys from 1984 and 1985 before that but my friends had that stuff. I went crazy for the Havoc for some reason and really wanted to get the bright-colored Sci-Fi and Lifeline, even though eventually those guys didn't have much playability. Other figures were more grounded and more fun like Beach Head, Leatherneck, and Low-Light. Kind of like you about the helicopters, I didn't appreciate the X-30 until a few years ago when I bought both the remake of the original and remake of the Python Patrol one. I don't know why I didn't care about that in 1986, especially since I was majorly into the then-new "Top Gun". It is far cooler and easier to play with than the X-19 Phantom I would later crave.

GET TO DA CHOPPA!!! G.I. JOE issue #96 is one of my favorites. I didn't like Snake Eyes' new uniform as much as the 1985 variant, but at least it had a cool origin story. The only G.I. JOE chopper I had was the Dragonfly, although I did have the Airrwolf and Blue Thunder choppers.

Another excellent video. I had no idea all of the vehicles and variants that they made until recently. I didn't even know that they made a Terror Drome, until I saw one this year. I also recently saw a U.S.S. Flagg with the box, and I was thinking to myself this must have been difficult for a parent to hide this from their child for a birthday or Christmas present. Why is the Night Force series so valuable now? I should have held on to mine. Oh well. You live and learn.

You got some great videos I just discovered them. I feel sorry for you Mike, I was lucky to have the Dragonfly, and it kicked ass. The rotating cannon, two racks of rockets & missles, a rescue winch, no canopy problems, room for 2 Joes inside and 2 on the skids, and a propellor blades you controled w/ your thumb. Plus one of the coolest Joes of all, Wild Bill. He had an amazing paint job, and the detailing was awesome. If you can find one complete get a Dragonfly.

Got me a Tomahawk as a birthday present the year of release. I remember the nubs making up the hinge of the aft ramp wore down or broke off, and may nasty hack of a fix was to drill holes all the way through both sides of the body and the ramp, and run a chunk of hanger wire all the way though, bent down on both ends.

Had this one, it was okay. It was around the time Sgt Slaughter came in and yeah, it got kinda weird and became too hard to get everything. I had the Tomahawk in the 80’s. I think it was one of my last GI Joe toys. Tomahawk was my favorite of all, with the Warthog competing for 1st place. After the HAVOC and STUN, I think I started to lose interest in GI Joe. But the Pogo really killed it for me, although I even had that one too. The MAGGOT wasn’t so bad, and that came later. But boy did I love the Dreadnok’s Thunder Machine. Maybe because my parents had a TransAM with the same front end.

"Tomahawk's gonna chase some Cobra!" My holy grail for the line was always the W.H.A.L.E. I collect modern G.I. Joe Figures and I think the Eagle Hawk looks enticing, but there are two things I don't like. The rear machine guns don't pivot up or down, so they can't shoot at civilians on the ground who run or stand still while claiming they're VCs or "Viet-Cobras". The Tomahawk featured these pegs that stuck out of the seats that fit into the figures' backs, firmly keeping them in place. The Eagle Hawk doesn't, so figures precariously bounce around inside until they fall out and die.

It seems both GI Joe and Transformers decided to go the more science fiction route in 1986. Wonder the names responsible for that. I've never really heard of the specifics on that or seen any interviews with people from Hasbro about that either. While Kenner employees from that time period seem to be well know Hasbro I don't even know one name for sure. Maybe I'm just missing out and there are interviews around? BTW Awesome video! I don't mean to be that guy, but isn't Sci Fi really an update of original member Flash? I recall from another video that was your favourite of all time. I jumped ship when the neon colours starting come in force and always preferred the more straight up military guys (Footloose, Flint, Dusty etc.), but truth be told, there was always that bizarre outlandish design right from the beginning.

You don't like the bats? Riddle me this riddle me that who's afraid of the bat? i love the bats but They were super difficult to obtain when I was growing up at some point I ended up with a bat missing an arm and had no legs and that's the only thing I had of the original GI Joe line till about a year ago.i pick one up extremely cheap by accident. The damn original bats now are crazy expensive.i have one or two of the version 3 aand one or two of light version 5 or version 6 from the two thousands and I have a 12-inch version from the 2000s something line when they were doing Valor vs. Venom. Call me slightly insane but I just never got out of g.I. Joe growing up I continue to pick them up at yard sales and such.i I was lucky enough I got a tomahawk when they first came out for Christmas or a birthday. I still on it.i Got one missing a bunch of pieces that somebody threw out in the 90s and I hung on to it I recently obtained the missing pieces for it through eBay. Ironically trying to get parts for it about two years ago I bought one nearly complete and use the one that I got in the garbage to finish the other one lol. I hung on to the third one and got the parts in a group listing on eBay where a guy had them listed wrong. I've ended up with a couple more Tomahawk since then but getting the blades and a few things like the cockpit cover are crazy difficult and getting a whole one complete the price would give you a stroke. As far as I know lift tickets microphone is rattling around inside the fuselage off my Tomahawk and I haven't been able to get it out if either lift tickets microphone or Snake Eyes knife and it's floating around inside the body haven't been able to get it in one of the areas that it will pop out without potentially damaging the body By trying to separate it. I got to admit it was one of my favourite Vehicles as a kid I personally missed out on the apc!!! Wanted one but never got one and they were usually expensive at yard sales. About 80% of my GI Joe collection as a kid came from secondhand stores and yard sales I was a cheap kid. I got a pretty hefty chunk of crawler and shuttle when somebody threw it out in the nineties and I still have it. That damn thing they only sold a very limited number here in Nova Scotia more so than the flag the flag the terrordrome and rock crawler space shuttle launch pad talk up a insane amount of real estate at retail! Almost nobody retail wise attempted to carry them there just wasn't a market here in Nova Scotia you had to go to someplace like Sears or consumers and order it you couldn't just walk in the store and walk out with it. At least that's the way I remember it. I've only physically touch the flag twice both times had it yanked Away by somebody being a dik at flea markets. The terrordrome I've only ever seen in pictures! Space shuttle with the crawler only one I ever got my hands on was the one that somebody threw out never seen one at a yard sale or anything like that. I bought four of the black and white one over the last few years through eBay one of them admittedly for parts but I'm going to use that one for to eventually make a custom shuttle I bought it for $0.99 plus the shipping couple of the parts on it alone are 20 and $30 each right now. The four shuttles combined I never paid more than I think 40 or 50 bucks plus the shipping I bought them when they were going rather cheaply and now the market Has Gone Bananas so I haven't been able to get the little plastic bins that go on the back of them and I'm sure the front landing gear for one of them.

I can't think of the name, but it's a more generic, let's be honest, a GI Joe wannabe line, but it's got some amazing looking vehicles in it as well, do you know it? There's a sub, a Hercules cargo plane, and a few other big vehicles that I've seen. My brother had most of the Joe line from the Flagg to the Skystriker, the Terrordrome, the F-14 (or am I confusing the Skystriker with it?) while I had the Star Wars line until my mom suggested he could play with my figures, now they are all gone, both lines and my mom can't believe she let him play with the stuff, he was rough with his Joes, I took care of my figures, so now that Joes and SW figures, vehicles, playsets all are serious $$, she apologizes every time I see a new collector's guide on the two lines. My wishlist now has the old Mego figures, the Marvel and DC heroes, the Planet of the Apes, and the Six MIllion Dollar Man figures and sets on it.

You're thinking of the Real Heroes line from Toys R Us. Modern version of the old G.I. Joes from our childhood. Very compatible with old and new Joe figures.

Forge Maciejewski Yes, that's it. I saw the vehicles, and I was thinking they'd have a USS Flagg analogue, their line seems as good as the Joes. Is it?

+SciFiFan2012; I think so. The Real Heroes line is a little bigger overall, but classic and modern Joes fit perfectly. If you want, you can do some modifications to the Real Heroes vehicles for Cobra or Joe vehicles.

Forge Maciejewski I was just impressed at the size of the cargo plane, the sub, a mobile missile launcher, etc. The figures are sort of generic 'soldiers', but with a nod to the ARAH line.

+SciFiFan2012 They're a bit more durable than the older vehicles and worth the price. Hope that this helps!

Personally I think the G.I. Joe cartoon went to shit in 1986. The animation because lazy and everything was suddenly neon colored. I stopped watching it at this point.

Dude, the fact that you think I don't know that makes me laugh. The fact that you didn't consider that I have to speak to thousands of people through these videos and I must consciously use vernacular the average person can understand tells me I know more about military color names than you do about journalism. Stop trying to be a gotcha know-it-all.

RetroBlasting I wanna be a know it all too ! Pluto isn't even a real planet , and Return of the Jedi was originally REVENGE of the Jedi . Also , shit creek is not a real body of water so it doesn't matter if you don't have a paddle , the water is metaphorical . See ? I'm always a hit at parties. 😲
