Esta obertura sería un gran ejemplo de cómo la música de una obertura explica qué va a suceder después. Esa mezcla de melodía romántica que simboliza la historia de amor de Leonor con Álvaro y cómo irrumpen las notas inquietantes que simbolizan la fatalidad del destino. Una auténtica obra maestra de Verdi

No me canso de maravillarme de cómo suena esta magnífica Orquesta de Galicia, la oiga cuando la oiga, interprete lo que interprete y la dirija quien la dirija. En este caso suena tan soberbiamente como lo hizo en su día, bajo la batuta del malogrado Maazel, la Orquestra de la Generalitat (ahora Comunitat) Valenciana, que él creó de la nada y elevó a los altares en tiempo récord. Chapeau!

The performance is admirable and Maazel's interpretation convincing, although the tempo is much slower than Toscanini's. It is akin to comparing Furtwangler's interpretation with Toscanini's. Both versions would likely have elicited Verdi's approval and blessing, but I tend to believe Verdi might have preferred his young friend/protege Toscanini's breakneck tempo and ferocious drive, striking a measure of terror from the merciless "Force of Destiny" as also reflected in his opera (Note: This is an actual overture to Verdi's opera, not a concert overture, with musical themes taken straight from the opera).

Too slow in my opinion, I prefer the Muti's time. And in Verdi I'd like to see the cimbasso instead of tuba.

Maazel always plays what appears to be slower tempo. I much prefer Muti's muscular Verdi style

One hears more detail with a slightly slower tempo. There is also something special about this orchestra. There is real drive and panache in the playing and fine solo contributions to ice the cake.

Verdi would also. haha Thestrings part starting at 2:28 was sleep inducing. Edit: Just listened to Muti and Berlilner Philharmoniker version. That's the way to do it.
