The United States of America is a country located in North America. It is the third or fourth largest country by area, with a total area of 9.834 million square kilometers. The country is bordered by Canada to the north, Mexico to the south, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
The history of the United States is a long and complex one. The first inhabitants of the land were the Native Americans, who arrived thousands of years ago. The first Europeans to arrive were the Spanish in the 16th century. The British followed in the 17th century and established the 13 colonies. The United States declared its independence from Great Britain in 1776 and became a sovereign nation in 1783.
The United States is a federal republic, with a President as head of state and head of government. The President is elected by popular vote for a four-year term. The legislature is bicameral, consisting of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The economy of the United States is the largest in the world, with a GDP of over $20 trillion. The country is a major exporter of goods and services, such as aircraft, automobiles, and technology.
