Have you set up advanced scroll tracking with GA4 to get more data than the 90% scroll depth threshold that's available with the default enhanced measurement event?
If not, watch this video tutorial first to set up G4 scroll depth tracking with Google Tag Manager: • Scroll Depth Tracking ...
If you have done that, this video will show you to use Explorations and Looker Studio to build reports to see all your detailed scroll depth data. Have fun!
Have questions or comments? Leave them in the comments. I've been learning / struggling with GA4 over the couple of years, and I'm always up for learning more...and for new video ideas.
There's typically a video each week about GA4 or Google Tag Manager or Data Studio or sometimes Google Ads or SEO. If you want to follow along with what I'm learning (trying to learn) you can subscribe at the link below:

Is there a way to get scroll depth and pageviews in one report in Looker Studio? I tried but it doesn't seem to be compatible. Do you have a video on calculated fields in Looker?
@rooted-digital
@rooted-digital 11 ай бұрын
Hi there, Elizabeth. I don't have a video on calculated fields in Looker, but that's a great idea for the future. Let me know if there are specific fields you were interested in. In terms of combining scroll depth and pageviews, I just created this in Explorations and I think it would be similar in Looker. For dimensions, I added Event name, Page path and screen class, and a Scroll Depth (that last one is a custom dimension from this scroll depth tracking tutorial: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o5eaicWZnJ--noE.html) My single metric was Event count. I filtered on Event name and used a matches regex filter of page_view|scroll That allowed me to create a report showing page level info for page_views, along with scroll depth at 25%, 50%, 75%, 90% and 100%. In my report, my columns (from left to right) are Page path and screen class, Event name, Scroll Depth, and Event count. The only little hiccup is that (not set) shows in the Scroll Depth column for the page_view event. But that's pretty minor, I think. The Event count column at the right shows all the info you need. Hope that's helpful. Good luck.

So, I'm trying creatively to use a stacked bar chart and an image orientated horizontally in GLS to visually show where the scroll depth percentages are by volume. Do you know if this is possible?

Hello there! To confirm, you have created your scroll depth event tag using GTM, correct? I assume that's a "yes" since you can create in GA4. But just in case, here's a link to a blog with instructions: www.rootandbranchgroup.com/ga4-scroll-tracking/ Assuming your event tracking is set up properly, you may want to try refreshing your GA4 connection in Looker. support.google.com/looker-studio/answer/7083608?hl=en Let me know if that does it for you!

Great video ! Do you think it's possible to create a view where you can know the average of time spent by user on each percentage of the page ? Would be really interesting to know if a certain part of the page is more interesting than the rest. Having the scroll depth is nice but maybe people scroll to the end without reading most of the content but only spending time on a certain part of your page. Would be really great if it was possible to track that ! Thanks a lot for the video again :)

Great question. Off the top of my head, I don't know how to do exactly that. I would recommend 1 of 2 things to consider: 1.) You could use trigger groups to combine certain scroll depth thresholds with certain times to fire more precise events. I think that could get unwieldy pretty quickly, but perhaps worth a shot to see if you can think through an approach. Here's a video showing how scroll depth and page timer triggers can be combined: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p65okrialZzXc6M.html 2.) You could visualize the scroll and click data with a heatmap. Microsoft Clarity is free and could show you the scroll data paired up with click data. It wouldn't show you time, but you might be more interested in where your visitors are actually clicking / engaging. Here's a short video on how to use Clarity that links to a quick install guide: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e66SadBmyZ26mGQ.html Good luck!

Hmmm....I'm not quite sure. Have you tried updating your GA4 data source? It's pretty quick. Here's an overview if you could use a hand: www.rootandbranchgroup.com/update-looker-data-source/ Another thing to check. If you try building the same report in GA4 Explorations, do you get data there? If not, it's likely related to the event data itself and not Looker.

That's a huge topic. There are a massive amount of triggers and I don't know how to use all of them myself. I'd encourage you to learn how to use some of the basic ones. Like: page view trigger link click trigger all elements click trigger scroll depth trigger You can do a lot with those triggers for many websites. From there, you can expand to others. Here's a comprehensive guide if you want to learn more: www.simoahava.com/analytics/trigger-guide-google-tag-manager/

Glad you were able to find some things that helped. You might also consider checking out Microsoft Clarity, since it can visualize how your readers are consuming your content (scroll data is tracked automatically and shown as a heatmap...and you can see click heatmaps too). Thanks. That formula is called a "VLOOKUP" (short for vertical lookup) and it is used to join together two data sets that have a common column of data between them. The formula always starts with =VLOOKUP( and there are 4 parts inside the parentheses, followed by a closing parentheses. Each of the 4 parts of separated by a comma. Here is a brief explanation of each part, followed by a link to another resource that might be helpful: Part 1: the cell reference you are "looking up" in your first data table. This is the column of data that is common between your two data sets, and you're going to match it with something in your second data set in order to bring back some other data into your first data set. In this case, we are "looking up" the page path of the URL. Part 2: the location of the second data table that you are looking up against. In this case, that second data table is on a separate worksheet within the Excel table. Part 3: The "column index number" in your second data set. Count the number of columns to the right of your data column that matches between data set 1 and 2. Stop counting when you get to the column that has the data you want to bring back to your first data set. In this case, we want to bring back the data that is in the second column in data set #2. So our column index number is 2. *Note: The first column in your second data set that you select in part 2 should always match up with your cell reference column in Part 1. Part 4: A value of TRUE or FALSE. Use FALSE (it looks for an exact match). Here's a more comprehensive explanation at the link below. I bet this seems super confusing (I know it was for me), but if you stick with it and practice until it starts making some sense it can totally change your Microsoft Excel life! Best wishes. www.simplilearn.com/tutorials/excel-tutorial/vlookup-in-excel#:~:text=VLOOKUP%20is%20a%20built%2Din%20Excel%20function%20used%20to%20search,data%20retrieval%20and%20analysis%20tasks.
