Fun fact: The way the camera moves around Gaara and Lee with the background moving around them was a technique that was developed to make this fight happen, the technology didn't exist prior to this episode. Animated Movies were able to create the same effect through a different technique (visually speaking), but prior to this episode they would have to use a super expensive and time consuming technique that week to week shows wouldn't have been able to apply. This fight still to this day is one of the most iconic fights within the whole world of anime (in terms of popularity).

The best response I've seen/read to people wondering and theorizing if Guy is Lee's father sums it up perfectly: does it matter? Guy is Lee's teacher and legitimately bonded by his own care and love for his student that he would die for him...blood relation or not, Lee is Guy's son in all the ways that it matters. If anything, them not being related by blood hammers home a great theme of the series of not being necessarily bound by blood but by the bonds you form for yourself.

The only reason why the older shows have such slow pacing is because shows weren't trying to catch up to the manga. These shows were coming out weekly while the manga was also coming out weekly. Naruto's manga came out in 1999 and the anime in 2002. Most anime now come out when after the manga is finished or when it's going to end in 2-3 years

Ty finally someone said it. That’s also the reason we probably won’t have shows like the big 3 anymore as studios won’t commit to a season before having a successful manga beforehand. Shows like Naruto are made like Saturday night cartoons and now anime’s are more like Netflix specials. It’s debatable to say whether it’s better or worse.

I remember as a kid when I watched Naruto, around episode 80 -135 , the anime was catching up to the manga and that was one of the reasons for the fillers from 136 to 220 lmao

The fact that Lee has 0 "drip" and/or 0 "looks" makes this anime that much more amazing. It's actually teaching kids and even grown ups to be good human beings and look PAST that shallow view. Again, TOP 3 because this isnt just another repeated anime, this is actually TRUE STORYTELLING with an awsome bonus of crazy fighting scenes though they may be dragged out cause they are too cool to just watch once 😅. There's so much learning about the ninja in this Naruto world it almost feels like a documentary when they "yap" but I watch these all the time so i actually enjoy the extra details.

You guys need to keep in mind that Naruto (and same to the other OLD shounen animes) were made for kids especially for boys so it is understandable that there will be silly moments sometimes. You guys just don't have to be so serious all the time or having to think so deeply about something always because it might ruin the mood for y'all. In other words, just have fun watching it! That's also why as always, you have to be PATIENT. When you get to Shippuden or maybe even at the end of OG Naruto, you will realize how and why this anime is one of the most influential and most well known anime to all people.

Fr there’s a reason why seinen shows or more mature shows have better pacing because they don’t have to put hundreds of flashbacks in episodes to explain what’s going on to younger audiences. But I’m ngl at lot it has to do with the fact that some studios are just worse at adapting a manga into an anime than others. That’s most anime now are adapted to seasonal form so the studio actually has time and don’t pull out a bunch of filler/flashbacks.

This is where I started falling in love with this show.... Absolute bonkers . Hating Naruto this early is kinda obvious... But once a certain sage enters his life.... I fell in love with him .... But man calling Naruto a decent average protagonist is hard to hear not gonna lie.... But I am all here for the transition

It suffers due to its age. Naruto helped set and mainstream a lot of trends that are considered worn out tropes now. Not only that, but it's age also changes how the viewer feels the pacing. As the Geks have said with Solo Leveling, "it would suck always having to wait a week for everything." Personally I always found Naruto had the best pacing of the big 3. I've never been able to get more than 100 episodes into One Piece (working on it now) and I found Bleach picked up really slow, soul society arc happens, and then rinse and repeat

It’s not surprising tbh. Time hasn’t been kind to a lot of old anime, but that’s just how things usually go. Pacing is probably the biggest thing that’s affected by the passage of time tho bc while I love Naruto, it has horrendous pacing and it ultimately detracts from the overall experience if someone were to watch it now like they are.

I am so glad to hear you guys' raw reviews to the show. Despite naruto being one of my favorite anime (possibly being top 3), it has its issues and I am glad you guys are not pretending that they dont exist. Naruto is a wholeass journey and I am excited to see you guys go trhough it. Ofc sometimes its hard to stop myself from jumping and defending the show (as well as some characters) because i love it so much but I still really appreciate your raw reactions. The ABSOLUTE GOAT has appeared!!! And yes both he and orochimaru could clap kakashi while blindfolded , no I’m not exaggerating. Also naruto doesn’t have great stamina just because of the nine tails, his own personal chakra if molded correctly is around 4x of kakashi . Naruto IS HIM just give it some time fellas

A lot of shows in the 90s and 2000s were designed this way since it was a weekly release on tv for pre teens (which probably takes the same approach as DB- long battle sequences). In Naruto, the manga wasn’t finished so the animation would constantly do filler episodes until the manga could advance further into the storyline. Also, majority of female characters were written to be love interest only which was popular in Japan (until I believed Sailor Moon helped changed the concept in Japanese media). It does get better in second part though!

The pacing in this show is *really* bad at times. I feel for you guys coming from things like JJK where the pacing is tightened up after studios understood the mistakes that older anime like Naruto made. But that being said, give it some time and a chance to breathe and just operate with the understanding of poor pacing comparatively to more modern anime, and you guys will see why Naruto is so beloved.

JJk is just a different era. That kinda changed with Demon Slayer. Shonen jump stopped with the endless anime episodes and stuck with arcs instead. Though I do feel sometimes those anime don't have the impact of long running anime. Like JJk lacks characterisation.

great the volume was working nicely this vid, could actually hear you guys pretty clearly most of the time :D Gaara vs Rock Lee is a truly iconic fight, it has everything :) both that fight and Neji vs Hinata showed that even if you are trying your best and you might deserve it more in a way it doesnt guarantee you success :) was also nice seeing Ebisu from a different perspective and how he came around on Naruto, now he respects him :) enjoy the time spent with all the characters it will pay off as you go :)

the frogs might seem random but frogs are heavily associated with ninjas in japan thanks to a famous poem which eventually became a show in japanese Kabuki theater, "The Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya", this is also why Greninja the pokemon exists as both a ninja and a frog.

Older shows like this were subject to a lot of filler. Even though you guys are skipping filler episodes, the show still has sort of micro filler where they'll make fights even more drawn out or have panning shots and such to pad out the episodes. Sometimes it can be a good thing where it makes fights more epic but other times it overstays its welcome. A lot of this did conclude a bit faster in the manga and that's a natural consequence of the show being released weekly all year round, basically. They had to do as much as they possibly could in order to avoid running out of manga chapters to adapt and this is the result. I'm so glad we've moved on to seasonal anime now and these sorts of problems are behind us for the most part.
