I have been working on fretted instruments for more than 30 years now. Only built a few from scratch. I truly enjoy your videos. You have the passion and obviously the chops. I like how you sing as you work. I do the same thing. It's an honor and a privilege to work on these "magic wands." In the right hands the instruments you build can alter lives and indeed the world.

@@Riffme81 Thank you, I'm honoured. I used to put off building because I wasn't able to use a router in the apartment storage room that I called a workshop. Then I discovered Paul Sellers and router planes and my whole outlook changed! Today I could use a router, or other power tools, but I still choose not to. Go for it!

Gabriele friend, your guitars are tremendously special... they sound incredible... I don't build them but I would like to make one, I have 5 guitars but I don't play very well I fell in love with their curves and designs of USA country guitars. .. little by little I bought several guitars that were practically mutilating them, murdering them. I am repairing two of those guitars, Suzuki 78 they put a Spanish guitar fretboard, it was crazy, I already took it off and now I have to mount its original fretboard, and I have another red label Yamaha guitar from 77 the bar or central rod of the fretboard To graduate the neck it is free, it is not graduated, I must disassemble the fretboard to make the adjustments, I also bought a 73 HOHNER in good condition 85% fine and another yamaha 310 in good condition 85% fine ,, but for me the best of all my special morris from 77 sounds spectacular well in appearance 80% needs painting, I love all my guitars, and you inspire me a lot to make my guitars beautiful and maybe in the future I will build one... from venezuela, greetings friend and follow that formidable rhythm you have to make beautiful and beautiful guitar sounds out of nowhere... This platform has so much beautiful potential and you are a great example of that. No, I am not a guitar maker, not even close, and I am not an accomplished musician, not even close, but I do love the guitar, I guess I love the guitar from my teenage years when I was into rock and roll, amongst other things ... I digress, I think that you are an expert at your craft, and I think you should be called dr. guitar maker. I would like to know more about you and your craft of making guitars. Hey Gabi I was wondering if you would think about doing a video on the science behind different woods and how they effect sound and the geometry behind making the neck and back bridge. It seems to me those are some complex topics. What do you think?
@GabiM3112
@GabiM3112 2 жыл бұрын
Well, some say that the back and sides don't contribute too much to the tone. Whe I remember correctly there have been experiments with cardboard backs and sides to emphasize that, but I may be wrong. Chris Alvarado (Driftwood Guitars) compares the sound of a guitar to a meal. He describes the back and sides as "spices" to the overall sound. I find that explanation quite fitting, even though it's not scientific. Of course there is material out there showing the frequency responses of woods and that may give an idea in which direction the overall sound will be going. I have no further knowledge about the science and to me that doesn't matter too much, since I build from materials that aren't normally traditionally used for bodies or tops on acoustics. I have even combined woods for backs and sides, making guitars half this wood and half that wood, to see what it sounds like. As I said in a previous video, no two guitars I make sound the same but I think there is not a single one that doesn't sound good to my ears. As for making the neck and bridge plate, they all turn out in a different way, since each is hand built and the necks are supposed to feel good to my hand and the bridge plates must fit the place where the bridge goes nicely. I have tried different neck profiles and when somebody wants to buy a guitar of mine, I'll have them play the different profiles (I have flatter and rounder ones) and they decide what they want. I'm afraid that's all I can say.

I’m curious how you manage to achieve both the outgoing and binding channels with a free hand router and not using a binding jig. How does your router account for the angle created by the top and back dome? Thanks.
@GabiM3112
@GabiM3112 2 жыл бұрын
It has a very small contact plate, which means the domes don't matter too much. It has a copying ring and a spacer below where it touches the sides of the guitar, so that there is always the same distance. It's this one: www.amazon.de/Makita-3709-Kachel-Router-240-Volt/dp/B001JEOW7S
