Senior military officers in Gabon say they have seized power and placed President Ali Bongo under house arrest.
Soldiers appeared on national television earlier today to declare they had taken control.
They also announced they were annulling the results of an election on Saturday, in which President Bongo just been declared the winner.

All the coups so far are righteous, there is a subtext that we need to be away of. Recent coups. mainly by American trained African soldiers, there is a foreign orchestrated design component. In the planning for over two decades. Starting with Francophone Africa - the calculations these recent coups, like the Arab spring, will be supported by the people, given the nature of France's abusive behaviours and the utter greedy of African leaders who serve themselves. The long term aim is the 'destabilisation of the entire Continent' and increase sales of warmongering equipment. Africa is walking into another trap. 'Secret Military Deals' - Africa is walking into another well set and orchestrated trap. What do the sellers of 'merchants of death equipments' want? They are looking for new, fresh markets to sell their weapons and services around military equipment. To sell their concepts of 'ever lasting wars'. The more wars - the more sales of military equipment, that is the point. Deaths & ensuing chaos is a side issue for them. Who are the biggest arms manufacturers? US, UK, France. African leaders are naive, ineffective, greedy and shameless. By their behaviour and decision making they signal & signpost weakness. Shocked to learn that Niger is selling their precious resources at a 96:4 ratio to France. What mentality and deficient thinking would allow one to accept such a deal? I knew we are poor negotiators in the selling of our resources, had not realise how bad, looking at that split 96% to France, 4 % Niger, incredulous!
