Among other minor npieces, we can find the elegy which dates frim his first period but is highly inspired and noble, in a style which has no more any link with romantism. This 'youth' piece shall last for long. The two cello sonatas were written a few years before his death. They are sublime in concentration and harmonic laguage. Except Debussy and far away Vierrne, this is what we have as top level mesterworks in the French cello/piano sonata literature. Ophélie Gaillard is indeed great in this repertoire

Hey thanks! my cellist has a copy of this 109 sonata.... we also have 4 Melodies for cello barenreiter that we'll start to work on...for years I carried around the Faure complete Songbook hoping to find a vocalist who could sing these before I died. I play many of his piano works....it's ECSTASY@!!!!!!!
