Despite the ultra-fast race, Gabriel Tual finished third behind Algerian Djamel Sedjati, who set a new national record and the world-leading time of the year with 1:41.56, and Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who achieved a personal best of 1:41.58.
The race pacemaker impressed everyone by crossing the 400-meter mark in 48.79 seconds, much faster than the planned 49.60 seconds. This thrilling race also saw five other athletes set personal bests, including two new national records.
