She's a fabulous singer. Mickey Thomas is a very hard cover. I had the pleasure of doing some session work with him years ago. He was one of those who never had to work for it. Gabriela does a very respectful job on this one. Good job Ken.

this is not an easy song to sing Mickey Thomas is voice is still incredible to this day but this beautiful young lady has hit a home run with this song!!!!!!... I would buy her CD of cover tunes she's so incredible!!!!!

I don't understand who or what decides a song's difficulty. Some songs people say are easy I feel I can't sing, and the reverse. Like can anyone sing Mel C "That's who I am"? She sings it so well but something about the scale or arrangement (sorry I'm no professional musician) like it's the worst for me, but maybe it's easy for some???

She did such a fantastic job on that song. She didn't even sound like she ever hit falsetto. That all sounded like diaphragm. Her voice was super clean also. I bet she could hit whistle register with some work.

She sounds great. I was privileged to see Jefferson Starship at 16 years old at Stanford University football field when this album was released. I saw Micky sing again 10 years ago at Santa Cruz beach board walk. He sounded exactly the same. Amazing singer. Simply amazing.

This song was released in '79 in my first years of college. But I remember this even more between '80 and '83. I took many a road trip between Houston and Jacksonville NC. I was serving Uncle Sam at the time. This was back when FM radio was worth listening to. How many times I heard "Jane" in rotation between TX and NC on multiple FM dials I cannot count. That was real radio back then. FM quality on a good auto system, the open road, pure bliss. Jane interspersed with Maiden's "Flight of the Icarus," then The Police "Roxanne," followed by Judas Priest. That was life! And at any moment, someone could push the button. There was an evil empire back then. (actually 2, in further retrospect competing against each other, but another discussion). Most people made a good living. Gasoline was plentiful and affordable. The food just seemed to taste better. Perhaps we can get back there in some respects, with the best elements of this present century .. That's an idea for Gabby. Perhaps a Maiden or Priest song?

Second comment: Found it humorous as Ken rolls in at the end, unfazed after Gabriela kills it. “Okay, so…..” The teacher is always teaching. I was waiting for a high five and more pure joy, but when that’s what you do for a profession…Face it, when you sound like a bulldog singing like I do, I’m easily impressed. Gabriela absolutely owned that deal. Keep rocking Ken and students!

I have said it before and I say it again, for me Gabriela is among or is the best Rock and Roll voices of all time. Her amazing power blended with an awesome voice and timbre. Also her ability to do clean belts and still sound as good or even better than several Rock and Roll legends and also her ability to sing dirty or raspy where it needs to be.

Even when Mariah Carey has or had three times her vocal range, her perfect technique, with powerful belts that are out of this world, and then the way she mixes her voice making it seem like she never left the chest voice.

***** Well listen to her cover of Jeff Buckley. In my opinion no one could ever touch his style but somehow she nailed it. I yet have to see her vocal range, and it doesn't sound as good as many other vocalists out there. But her power, voice and emotion that she puts into that song. However that is my opinion and if you think there are way better singers please tell me and I will be glad to listen to them. I do not care to make an argument I just love to listen to new artists I have not heard before.

Anki Hansen I have gotten several comments of this. While I cannot deny that she is attractive I prefer Hispanic woman or redheads myself. I genuinely like how she sings, in my opinion she has the right amount of power and tone. But what set her apart from other female vocalists, for me, was her cover of Jeff Buckley (One of my all time favorite singers). It was the first time I heard a cover of that song done right.

You can almost feel that her placement is someplace ABOVE her head when is accessing the upper notes in the song. Always such a pleasure to hear her. Great coaching Ken. I’ve been listening to you sing for a few decades. The proof is in the fact that you can still do it well.

good observation. it is one of the fundamental "tricks" in singing. To mentally think higher than the note your about to reach for. Not note wise higher, but just the essence of higher if you know what i mean. works every time!

Good god Gabriela, being a huge fan of power metal and symphonic metal - I've heard a fair share of great female singers, but there's something special about your voice that just sends one into a trance. It's truly fascinating how versatile you are, you're seemingly able to take any song - whether a calmer ballad or a full-on powerhouse such as Man in the Box. I sincerely hope she gets the recognition she deserves, she's easily one of the best singers I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. Oh, and she's pretty darn gorgeous too! :) Hope to see more covers, Ken. You've done a wonderful job!

Gabriela did a great job! Mickey Thomas doesn't come out weak on this song at all. Mickey's voice is crystal clear, high and extremely powerful. And in the song Jane, he had only two volume settings: off and wide open!!
