I’ve got to give Chilla props on this game-unlike many other of his titles, the ghost isn’t a real ghost; the monster is an apparition of his guilt with the woman our protagonist cheated on his wife with (the Lady in Red). The game is also simultaneously a commentary on work-life culture in Japan (evidenced by the multiple video tapes and interactions depicting harsh “power-harassers” and workloads), and how escaping or prioritizing family is seen as a failure of character. That’s why everyone who goes to the emergency exit dies, such as the two girls in the security cameras (the first of which we see eith our own eyes, the second of which is implied with the maid on 6F, who cleans the blood splatter from the second girl who tripped, the blood which smears all the way to the exit), and also yourself-the police tape around the stairs also implies other employees have been committing suicide by jumping from them, which is also supported by various characters who mention the death of overworked employees and their guilt with the incidents (eg. the woman in the stalls and the security cam notes). The only person who doesn’t exit via the stairs is the Lady in Red, who in a small detail, instead leaves via the elevator after she confronts you in the electrical room. That’s why the good ending is you remembering your daughter’s birthday and escaping through the elevator rather than running to the stairs; the bad ending includes you rewinding and reliving the same day, over and over again (the Steam achievement has an infinity symbol ♾️ as the badge.) As you could’ve guessed, the protagonist will never get away from the fact that he cheated on his wife, which is why the Lady in Red appears even in the good ending, behind his family-it’s also why there are mutiple instances of women talking about “deviously” seducing a security guard or trying to seduce out your contact information. The game is a story about remembering what’s important, but not forgetting what you did. Also, the Japanese text in the Hell floor says things like “bastard,” “cheater,” “worthless,” and “can’t escape,” which makes sense given that it’s in the same hallway as the Lady in Red jumpscaring you from the TV screen. The game focuses focuses on two themes, basically; work-life balance and cheating. This is a large departure from other Chilla’s games, which usually only have one central motif or throughline (ex. “The desire to rectify the past” in Missing Children, “The fear of being forgotten” in Stigmatized Property, or “The fear of what alienation can compel you to do” in Night Delivery). This was easily one of his most well-developed and brilliant games, and I hope he continues to make games like this in the future.

Wow thank you for the summary! What about the previous guard tho, the one who disappeared? Where does he fit into the story?
@Celeb_
@Celeb_ Жыл бұрын
@@kath4134 the previous guard was actually the new guard/protagonist you're playing as, if you look at the bad ending where it rewinds the tape and the name at the top left says, "Keigo Ochigi". Which evidently means the guard who disappeared, was a foreshadow what's about to come as he progress to the floors and he's stuck in a time loop over and over until he jumps off the stairs (unless he remembers his daughter's birthday and goes to the elevator in the good ending)

Summary of the story from what I can understand: Our character worked on an office building as Security Guard, and on the office, we find a note saying that a Security named 'Keigo Ochigi' has gone missing. And that's how we begin our story. As we explore, we found out that not only there's many ghost activity happening in the building, there's also a severe 'Power Harassment' case happening in the office as well. An employee that only mentioned as ** (We gonna call her 'Red Girl' going forward) is being abused by her boss and harassed by Seniors, forced to work over-time every day and they always pilled their work at her. Later, we found out that Red Girl has a lover whose work as Night Security (Which is Keigo Ochigi), but one of her senior tried to took that man from her, and at one point the man broke up with her. This caused Red Girl to have mental breakdown and killed herself. Red Girl Ghost then haunted the building and attacked everyone that caused her pain. Her Seniors, her boss, and Keigo. Red Girl then trapped the souls of those people on a Limbo. On Ending 1, as we tried to escape through the Emergency Stairs, Red Girl Ghost attacked our character and caused him to fall, but instead of dying, time seemingly rewinded and we returned to the beginning of the game. But this time, instead of just showing our character title as 'Security Guard', it showed us our character's name. 'Keigo Ochigi'. Our character was Keigo all along, and we're trapped in the Limbo. All the floor and incident that we encountered was replaying the pain of Red Girl before she died, in which she was harassed by the seniors and boss, met Keigo during one of her over-night work, and becoming a lover despite Keigo already married, and also replaying the moment where her senior flirted and took Keigo from her. This is why Keigo didn't flinch at all the stuff that happening, and why Keigo didn't hesitate to give the flirty employee his contact number despite he already married. Because it already happened and it's all just a re-telling. On Ending 2, we managed to escape through the Elevator after inputing the code which is his Daughter's birthday. His daughter is the only thing anchoring his consciousness. Keigo woke up from his coma with his family waiting for him, but the Red Girl appear behind them, hinting that she will always haunt Keigo even if he already out from the Limbo. The reason why there's a lot of scratched numbers near the place where you input the code is because Keigo already been there many times trying to remember the code and failed, thus he keep repeating it until he get it right.

This makes complete sense and also whenever he interacts with some of the office workers they kept saying "you're back again?" Or "I told you to leave the bathroom lights on" despite him being on a completely different floor level. He's clearly repeating his actions every night or every round of the loop he's stuck in.

This is soooo helpful. Do you have a theory about the maintenance person on one of the floors- the one who was cleaning up the blood completely unaware and then was visibly put off by seeing us? i feel like that was too prominent to just be nothing
@arlangunadi8674
@arlangunadi8674 Жыл бұрын
@@mwoods89 Can't say for certain, but if you look at the trail of blood, it's leading to the emergency Exit. So, my theory is, when Keigo is attacked by the Red Girl, he tried to escape using the emergency exit, but since it's under maintenance he fell off all the way to the sixth floor (The place where the cleaning lady is), that's why the first ending have you tried to escape from the Emergency Exit, but ended up falling and had to repeat the cycle. The Sixth floor is bloody because it's the place where Keigo fell into Coma, and the Cleaning Lady is the one who found Keigo, that's why she's speechless when she saw Keigo. (Or it could be that she's just product of Keigo's imagination in the Limbo, as someone he only knew by face but never personally interact, that's why he can't interact with her)

On the second end, Keigo wakes up, sees his family, then Red Girl, and there's a long beep in the background, does that mean Red Girl still killed Keigo in the end? Sorry if I'm missinterpretating things here, is just a thought

Gabs, I work night shifts 11pm-7am at a teen/adolescent rehab and mental health center. I mostly just sit in an office in a house full of six kids making sure they are safe, sleep, and don’t AWOL. The house is in the middle of nowhere with serious Texas chainsaw vibes and I put on your videos every shift to have something in the background (even when you play scarier games hehe) and it brings so much comfort and helps me not get scared when the kids sleep talk/sleep yell haha. Just wanted to say THANK YOU, you have saved my nights and make my shifts that much easier.

I feel like the guy we play as IS Keigo and he along with the other people within the building are trapped in an endless cycle akin to purgatory. Two of the men say that Keigo keeps reappearing ("You're standing there every time I wake up.") and the woman who propositions him is likely the women who 'stole' Keigo away from the woman in red. (who later exacts revenge, though Keigo is married and likely playing around with both of them). I think the man in the locker was also a representation of Keigo. He seems to 'come to his senses' (suddenly saying "I have to get out of here" when before that moment he was carrying on as usual, like the other people we see in the building who also act as if everything's normal) after seeing the woman in red's video and is subsequently chased by her. If he remembers his daughter's birthday he's able to wake up and break the loop he continues to be trapped in in the other ending (represented by the rewind) probably in a symbolic way, choosing his family over his philandering or simply that trope of remembering people you love bringing you back to life ("I love...") - However, it seems like the ghost of the woman in red will keep haunting him. To me it only makes sense that our character is Keigo or else why would the woman in red blame him so harshly for what happened? Saying that it's his fault. Keigo seemed like he was having an affair with the woman in red only to dump her for that other "give me your contact info" lady who was already bullying Woman in Red, piling overtime on her so that she and her friends could leave early. It seems she likely that the Woman in Red killed herself, possibly from a hanging? And then exacted revenge - leading to the deaths of the two gossiping women and the implementation of a 12 o'clock overtime. That's what I got from the story anyway! It's a bit confusing, especially because there's something going on with time and it's told in a very fragmented way!

In the first ending, the entire game rewinds to start the same night shift over again as the security guard "failed" to break the cycle - he is Keigo Ochigi, a fact he can't remember when he begins the looped shift. In the second ending he escapes, and wakes up in hospital with his wife and kid. But the woman from before, the one who is dead, shows up behind them, pointing to the fact this isn't real - it's an ending he hopes to achieve, but the reality is that remembering his kids birthday doesn't erase the fact he wronged the dead woman. When the woman near the beginning tries to force him to share his number, that same force is referred to later in saying she won over some man with her body, that his current partner was no competition. I'm not sure he actually did cheat on his wife, but this woman was convinced he was now hers, and perhaps in her delusion then saw him as a traitor for not playing along. I wonder if other women staying late were then punished by her, as she was so obsessed with being the true partner of the unwilling security guard. Maybe people thought she was overworking, but more likely she slipped and fell on the stairs (which are broken between floors), and the girls who pushed their work on her also felt guilty, and we're shunned for it, leading to more misery. And finally, I thiiiink the man in the locker holding the cable is also Keigo Ochigi. He was killed by the ghost who wanted to spend eternity with him, and now his spirit is trapped in a loop with the woman who still tries to force his number from him at the start of every shift... Just my theory tho xD

@shawna8199 actually a comment in 8-Bit Ryan's video mentioned that the Keigo the manager is saying is the same Keigo who disappeared. At the start of the video, you can see the character's name is "Security Guard (35)" at (3:10) but at ending 1 when the character rewinds all the way to the start of his job (59:23) you can see the character's name changes to "Keigo Ochigi (35)". So essentially throughout the entire game you're playing the same person which is just sad that he's stuck in that loop
@captainbroady
@captainbroady Жыл бұрын
@shawna8199 You are Keigo. You are literally playing the loop. That's why at the ending everything rewinds back to the start. (Although at the start you play as a guy called "Security Officer" so ye it'll explain the "Keigo missing" and the manager didn't say anything) Bruh its getting confusing, but I'd just like to think of it that way

Hi, Gab! I have a story to share that I think will make you smile. About six weeks ago, my youngest cat, Persephone, went missing. My cats are used to exploring outside, but I knew something was wrong when she didn't come home that night. Out of her siblings, she was always the most reliable one and never stayed out past sunset. As the days and then weeks passed without any sign of her, I started to lose hope. On Friday morning, I woke up and when I opened my bedroom door she was sitting there waiting for me! My baby girl came home! She's very skinny and doesn't like being alone, almost as if she's afraid to get lost again, but she's safe and back where she is loved. As I type this up, Persephone is sound asleep on my bed beside her brother. ❤ Knowing how much you care about cats, I thought this happy little miracle would bring you joy. Thanks for reading! Now, I'm going to actually watch your video. 😊

From what I understand. The person you play as, is Keigo and the female ghost that is haunting the halls and you, is & was your ex-girlfriend that uhm... unsubscribed from life after an incident that was caught on CCTV. The final ending was to show that you woke up from a coma while wife and kid visited, but the ghost of your ex (who you thought you escaped from) showed up again in the hospital behind them. Showing that the ex is haunting you. I THINK that is what the story is supposed to be.

It’s so interesting watching Gabs play Japanese games because she can actually read most of the Japanese! I love that she reads it out loud because it’s so interesting to hear! I can’t wait to start learning Japanese, I’m going to try to next school year when I’m done with Spanish. But it’s not only interesting to hear it but it’s so cool to see her stop and read things nobody else would have since they don’t read Japanese or asking the comments if anybody can translate it. From what I can tell, her Japanese sounds so good and so fluent! I don’t know hardly any Japanese (just tiny words and phrases like “I’m sorry”, “Hello”, or “Goodnight” and a few words from Japanese creepy pastas(?) like Kushisake-Onna and Hachishukusama.) so I can’t say for sure but the way she barely if ever pauses or has to re-read something means she really understands most or all of what she is reading and the way she speaks sounds so confident and makes it sound very fluent! Great job, Gabs! Definitely watching all the Japanese horror games I can find you playing!

I love this series because they let us to think what the story is so i'll give my best theory about it. open for discussion, been wanted to tell this since i played it. So, The work we doing is just a nightmare we had while in the hospital. We are trapped in the endless loop in it. if we look closely at the end on the floor, there will be a footstep guiding all the thing, the numbers scrath on wall near the buttons also an evidence we already went thru it a lot of times, we can also look at the ending 1 when we fell down, theres are a lot of video tape in front of us, which means we already looping for several times. In ending 2 we finally woke up from coma ( i think) because we remember our family. now i will explain it more detail about the story. The story is about family and relationship. we the security guard (Keigo Ochigi as shown in ending 1) had a not really good relationship about our family. The evidences are: at first we woke up on the living room (sofa), if we look at the food, we eat a bento instead of the curry our wife made it means our relationship isnt really good with our wife. in the whole game we always think we are the new guy at job, why? because at first in the game even if you never played it before the game will say "are you want to start over? the game data that already saved will be deleted" somethng like that, and thats why we forgot who we are, which means we lost our memories at first and after the ending 1 we looped in the nightmare and remember that we are the Keigo Ochigi. about the girls in the story, the red dressed girl is our girlfriend in the past while we worked as a security guard, she getting bullied and harassed in work. the second girl is the girl we met on the 2nd floor, the little devil girl, she forced us to get our number. In the cctv on the 5th floor we can see this girl talking to another girl on the 6th floor before chased and killed, they talking about the little devil girl became the security (we) 's GF even tho we already have a GF (the red girl). Yes, we cheated. The red girl tired of getting harasssed, gossiped(?) and then cheated. She killed herself and haunted everyone in the building (maybe just the harasser as we saw in the girl toilet the girl says "its their fault everyone is gone"). We saw what the red girl do in the cctv and we wrote the letter (in the cctv room 5th floor) and leave the job. After that we getting a new life and family. in the last video tape, we can see the red girl says "愛して..." (aishite...)and cutted out. it can means two thing, Ashite from Ashiteru (i love you) or just Ashite (love me) or aishite can just means "give love" because the word it self dont have object in it. At first we just run thru the emergency door because we scared but getting pulled and fell down, this looped for several time because we can see a lot of video tape when we fell down. Thats also the reason why some workers always saying that they have seen us again and again. At the last we finally remember the birthday date and finally can run from the nightmare, woke up on the hospital bed, and seeing our family again. The red girl in the last scene of ending 2 also appeared and assume she still haunting us. tldr, we are in a coma and had a nightmare, in it we felt the guilt of cheating before, we getting looped again and again because we wouldnt fight for our trauma and after we able to do it by remembering to love our family, we finally woke up from the nightmare. tho thats only my own theory, i'd be happy if someone want to discuss it more with me ^^

adding a little detail that confused some people, the little devil girl says she won him (us) with her body, it doesnt mean she just have a good body and we like her for that, in the japanese ver, she says 寝取った(netotta) means slept (had segs) with us. so the girl isnt just a delusional over her body, but we are the bad one too and thats came the guilt we felt after.

As an overnight security working alone I can say it's just really depressing and overbearing most of the time. There's no way that first day or 5 years into a job that you keep going after the first genuine spooky thing that happens. As soon as something doesn't immediately add up I just write off the rest night and stay in the office till shift end, I'm by myself so you knows what I do really.

The Chilla's Art games have always had good story ideas that are good at building up tension, but, it is fantastic to see how the quality keeps going up even more over time. The graphics for this are very impressive (and keeps things just bright enough to see creepy aspects while dark enough to add to atmosphere), the sound design--from random background noise to raspy breathing--adds a lot of tension, and the jumpscares are used more unexpectedly than some other games. It really just helps to build a scary and supernatural world in a very mundane setting. I always find myself looking forward to seeing what comes next, both within the game and future games to come.

I used to work nightshift security... and yes it can be very spooky... ran into a few coyotes, drug addicts, drunks and even bomb threats. to say that when you work night after night left mostly alone in the dark with your thoughts... it's not hard for the imagination to see things that weren't there.

I've just been watching your videos of these (have left some comments on others 😂) and I just really appreciate this style of playing these games. I love your demeanor playing these games, it's super relaxing and helpful. Also, I truly thing Chilla's Art are some of the best games in many ways. Like they aren't the most beautiful (usually) but they are learning so quickly, they have stellar writing, they are clever, and are master of tension and payoff for the horror genre. Anyway, 10/10 would watch and cry again.
