Gaby Seyfert - 1967 World Figure Skating Championships LP

Here's was the new European Champion and reigning world silver medallist having won the title for the first time in Ljubljana earlier that season. A freak fall on some steps marred an otherwise excellent skate with two beautiful double axels. Does anyone speak German? I'd love to know what is being said between Gaby and her Mother, Jutta Muller at the end.

She knows how to sell a program and has a lot of personality. I wish we had more skaters like her these days!

Gaby was such a powerhouse! She certainly had great 2Axels. Love the choreography in this program, so well laid out, very musically appropriate, and lovely artistic touches. 👍👏👏

@@floskate oops. I meant the television archive. Yes, they had lots of things with Gaby. From her performances in the early 60s til many tv specials with her in the 70s.

Габриэль дочь.Ютта Мюллер имя мировом фигурном катании.Школа Карл-Маркс Штадт (Хемниц).Также Ян Хоффман ученик Ю.Мюллер (двукратный чемпион мира, четырехкратный чемпион Европы).Жива, сейчас более 90 лет

Gaby could have been the 1972 Olympic Champion. By 1970 her compulsory figures were good enough to hold off Trixie Schuba for the overall championship and she was just as watchable as Janet Lynn. 1970 World's is amazing. However, at this point in time Peggy was the queen of compulsory figures to the shock of most people, still better than anybody, and Peggy's free skating was pretty enough that she made up for the lack of speed and power that Gabby had. Unfortunately Gabby retired after 1970 because she wanted a boyfriend and skating, but her mother thought they were incompatible, which is tough when your mother is your coach and the best coach in the country.

By 1972, Trixie's CF were so good that no one, not even Gaby, could have caught her for the gold.

@@waynehentley4332 at 1970 World's the total score for Gaby was 2808.7 (2nd CF, 1st Freeskate) while Trixie's was 2729.0 (1st CF, 7th Freeskate). At the 1972 Olympics, Trixie scored 2751.5 (1st CF, 7th Freeskate), so there is no indication that Gaby couldn't have caught Trixie.

@@listsofgoodstuff2149 Going by those scores yes but I've always heard that by 1972, Trixie was so good in CF that she couldn't be caught by anyone. Gaby scored 900 points more in 1970 than Peggy scored at the 1968 Olympics? They must have changed the scoring system!

@@waynehentley4332 Janet Lynn and Karen Magnussen couldn't have caught Trixie. However, Trixie never surpassed Gabby in an overall championship. Technically, Julie Lynn Holmes could achieve a position after CF to be in a position to win the overall championship if she placed 1st in the freeskating, but she was never good enough in freeskating to beat Janet Lynn, Karen Magnussen, and Zsuzsa Almássy.

@@waynehentley4332 the change to the scoring was that they were doing one additional compulsory figure, 6 instead of 5, which was simply added to the points total.

Вы вообще то про кого толстые? Она была аппетитная, улицы пустели, все ждали Габи на льду. Это была мощь, задор, драйв, какого больше Земля не родила .

Frau Muller looks so young and attractive!...Gaby seems a bit " thick"..regarding weight and really not that graceful. How can a judge give a 5.9 when she fell on her rear end ?... This must be an East German crowd .

Do you ever stop to think that comments like that are the reason that so many women are sticking their fingers down their throat and dying of eating disorders? Not every woman is meant to be a size 2, no matter how athletic they are and how healthy they eat. This woman was, in her day, a powerhouse athlete. Just because she doesn’t happen to be a stick figure doesn’t give anyone the right to make rude comments.
