Gaelic Storm- The BEST Celtic Party Band In The World. I Saw Them "Live" Six Times. I Went Through Extreme Brutal Suffering To Be Able To Meet The Whole Band At Flannery's Pub In Cleveland, Ohio After Seeing Their Show At House Of Blues In Cleveland. I Will Never Forget It!! I Even Got "Stranded" In Cleveland All By Myself That Night, In Freezing Cold Weather At 1 a.m.. But After I Got To Meet Patrick Murphy, The Front Man, I Was Able To Find My Way Back Home Safely. I Really Believe That It Was "The Luck Of The Irish" That Got Me Home Safely That Night.

Heel y'ho boys, let her go, boys Bring her head round into the weather Heel y'ho boys, let her go boys Sailing homeward to Mingulay! What care we tho' white the Minch is What care we for wind or weather? when we know that every inch is sailing homeward to Mingulay? Heel y'ho boys, let her go, boys Bring her head round into the weather Heel y'ho boys, let her go boys Sailing homeward to Mingulay! When the wind is wild and wailing And the waves mount ever higher Anxious eyes turn ever seaward To see us home, boys, to Mingulay Heel y'ho boys, let her go, boys Bring her head round into the weather Heel y'ho boys, let her go boys Sailing homeward to Mingulay! Wives are waiting at the pier heads, Looking seaward from o'er heather. Pull her 'round boys, and we'll anchor 'Ere the sun sets on Mingulay! Heel y'ho boys, let her go, boys Bring her head round into the weather Heel y'ho boys, let her go boys Sailing homeward to Mingulay! Heel y'ho boys, let her go, boys Bring her head round into the weather Heel y'ho boys, let her go boys Sailing homeward to Mingulay! Ships return on, Heavy laden Mothers holding the bairns a'cryin They return yet, when the sun sets They return back to mingulay.

Written by a doctor in the 1930s, thank God for that. I have never in all my years every, ever heard a fisherman mock the weather, ever. I worked on trawlers, seiners and gil netters out of Grimsby town in the late seventies and early eighties

@@rollinbaker9469 it's a nice song but I've never heard anyone that works at sea ever mock the weather that was all, I can remember as a kid on a pleasure trip off Norway getting a right thick ear for whistling, apparently if you whistle you are calling up the wind. Load of old tosh, 3 hrs later it was blowing close to a 10 and we had to stop fishing and run for a fjord. Never whistled at sea again! Just to be on the safe side.

Whistling has all kinds of scary consequences in Norwegian mythology… it may mean mocking the weather, or even the Northern lights!

@@sigridrp that's how I learnt superstitions, I worked on trawlers, seine netters and gil netters out of Grimsby in the late 70's and early 80's, I was on a pleasure trip on a boat my dad was on in the summer holidays in about 1975 and was overheard whistling while I was gutting. Christ did I get into trouble for "whistling up the wind" daft old prats I thought but about hour later it had gone flat a calm to good 8/9 I've never whistled on a ship since.

Well, I’d imagine that a sailor or fisherman world be just as eager to go home as someone who had never sailed. No matter the wind or weather, they want to go home.

Mingulay is the second largest of the Bishop's Isles in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, 12 miles south of Barra, The last people left it in 1912. Hugh Robertson wrote the song to a traditional Gaelic tune in 1930.

Nicely sung. But I wish folk would get the tune right! They are singing the verse to the tune of the chorus which is wrong. The verse has its own very nice tune.

probably any version that's true to how they would have sung it originally in its home country. I learnt it in Mull as a child in the 1950s &60s. There are two parts to the tune - for verse and for chorus. People have developed very reduced versions of the melody in some places
@keithwilson7131

The original version had different tunes for the verse and chorus; later ones tend to use the chorus melody for everything. Many people don't realize that this isn't a folk song. It was written in the late '30s by Hugh Roberton, a composer and choir director from Glasgow, although the tune is like traditional ones. Nobody from Mingulay ever sang it as far as I know; everybody had left the island by 1912, 25 years before it was written. Still a lovely song, though.

I’ve realized with this kind of music that most people have different versions of the same songs normally it’s a different word here or there but I suppose it could be a different tune as well
