Great guide, it was particularly useful to me to know how much of the gauge gets charged with each attack. However, I'd like to point out 2 things: 1. Prowlers do have invincibility frames. They activate a bit earlier compared to hunters so you have to adjust your timing and press the B button a bit later to evade through an attack/roar. 2. You don't have to attack before evading to run with an unsheathed weapon afterwards, just evading is already enough.

I'm playing this entire as prowler from unlock to finish. I just find the thought of taking down something the size a mountain with something the size of a house cat so entertaining.

Great guide! A couple minor things you didn't cover, just for thoroughness-sake: the weapon-drawn run is definitely faster than normal walking, but the weapon-sheathed run IS noticeably faster than that, and prowler's sheathing speed is top-notch. It's also quite easy to sheath in the middle OF the weapon-drawn run and go straight into a sheathed-run, without stopping. So don't be afraid to put those weapons away when chasing a monster over larger distances (or fleeing from a very bad situation, if you don't have Emergency Retreat or don't want to spend the charge) If you lead off with an un-charged boomerang (IE just tapping A) or use it after a SINGLE X attack (X - A), there's a small delay before the throw (perhaps more noticeable without the Boomerang Boost skill). However, if you followup the SECOND X attack with an A (X - X - A), you'll throw the boomerang out *instantly*. It's a good way to start a combo, if you're trying to grab a little extra charge or stay mobile. Most support skills can be activated immediately after almost any attack in a Prowler's combo. There's something great about doing the post-boomerang dive move straight into the monster's face and then whipping out a giant barrel bomb the instant your paws touch the ground. Holding R and hitting B while weapon is sheathed to burrow. Not as fast to execute as Emergency Retreat (and it can be interrupted) but once you're underground you're invincible and stop generating aggro altogether.. ideal if you need to go unnoticed while fleeing the area or waiting for a chance to pull a big move. Carrying large items (like eggs) causes you to constantly gain charge at a slow rate. Probably not as efficient as fighting or gathering but it means Prowlers shouldn't feel reluctant to help with Transport objectives.. or lug around a wyvern egg while hunting Raths, to lure the monster AND generate charge at the same time. When in a mixed Prowler and Hunter party, never discount your ability to act as pack mule and bring along items just to give to teammates mid-hunt! Bow-users will love you forever if you bring a pocket-full of spare power-coatings, and I've had Capture missions that would have been failed outright if I hadn't brought spare Traps to hand out.

I think it's also important to add that you can dodge out of animations to make them quicker. WIth the wheel, if you dodge when you land, you skip the get-up animation. And with furr-ious, when you hit the ground after you jump, you can skip the tantrum animation. Doing this makes prowler flow A LOT better.

If you press R +B without weapon and not moving, you can burrow(the invincibility mode under the earth), too. But notice that burrowing gives you not completly invincibility. Roars will throw you out of the earth, even if you use the healing skill that burrows you. So I would recommend to search for a cat that has earplugs, if you want to use the skill or the move.

You can go from a sheathed weapon into a boomerang quickly without doing the lenghty X draw attack. With your weapon sheathed press R+X+A to go for a guard and then press A to use the boomerang.

I really enjoy going melee with cats, with pierce boomerang on the side for that nice little bit of damage and charge gain.

I would like to add that there is a noticeable difference between running with your weapon sheathed and running with it unsheathed. You are slightly slower when you have your weapon out while running, but this shouldn't necessarily matter unless your main goal is to get to places as quick as possible.

Fun thing i discovered that if you set Start button to "Special Attack" instead of "Menu". You can do the shortcut to the stronger attacks without doing it with guarding first or you can do it with taping the touchscreen button but thats not really practical. Thx 4 the guide Gaijin Hunter!

I've been playing around with a Shock Tripper Trapper Prowler lately. If you can lay a trap and then hit a monster with shock tripper, the damage over time is pretty crazy as it stays in the AOE for an extended period of time. Mounting works just as well, so Trampoliner is a less expensive alternative, as are status effects.

4:38 The boomerang also goes a decent but further than if you didn't charge it. so if the monster your hunting can 1-2 shot you you can be safe and hang back a bit further and still deal some damage.

Loving the prowler!

A trick that I've learned is that you can charge up a boomerang facing up an incline,. Then, you can re-position to face down the incline to throw your first boomerang in the double boomerang combo upwards, instead of parallel to the ground.

You DO get invincibility frames on the rolls since I have dodged through attacks and roars with it and another thing is you do not have to do an attack in order to sprint. You can just press B to dodge and then your cat will sprint just like that

SO, for the rage mode finisher, it seems to be several hits but the motion value is only one. I assume that value is for the downward finish, but what about the rest?

The run after an evade with the weapon drawn is in fact a bit slower than sprinting with your sheated weapon. In practical play, this isnt a significant diference but i thought I would just mention it

Gaijin, your tutorial neglected to mention the ability to go from sheathed to immediate guard. Also, I'm not sure if you mentioned the ability to go from guard into dodge or boomerang without letting go of guard.

Yeah, hunting Hyper monsters is particularly fun in Prowler mode. Hitting the hyper spots fills the Support gauge so fast you'd think you were already playing MHGU....

And this is before we even touched on biases.

I just started playing monster hunter and have trouble getting used to the weapons. Would I be missing out on anything if I decided to just use the prowler from now on?

I finally got my E.R., Big Boomerang., Earplugs, Boomerang Pro cat after re rolling for 3 weeks! UGH! It was worth it though, even came with Negate wind, poison and paralysis!
