This video was taken in Indianpolis Indiana, at a Gaither Homecoming Event. David Phelps torches this song! His voice is so powerful and he really is not showing to many signs of slowing down! Wes Hampton also nails his part very well on this song.
The Vocal Band here was Bill Gaither, Mark Lowry, David Phelps, Wes Hampton and Marshall Hall (who was filling for Michael English)

Never heard David hit the E in this song lol...kinda almost sorta a little "high note contest" with Wes lol. Loved it. Absolute GOAT.

in my opinion, Marshall is the best 'blender' the group has had. The combo of him with David, Guy and Bill is like a perfectly blended quartet, though I've loved every lineup the group since I was introduced to them

I prefer Mark Lowry. He has a very clear, clean huge baritone voice. He's the perfect baritone for David and guy.

@@aimanisahac Mark had the range (I've heard him go above A4 in his early GVB days) but Marsh is a singer's singer imo. I loved that brief 2004 lineup even though they only made 4 songs.

@@aimanisahac Mark is actually a tenor, or at least high-baritone, he just suppressed his voice to sing baritone. When a tenor sings lower, it sounds lower than normal baritone, or in converse, a baritone sounds higher in high notes. Marsh, Russ, or Gary McSpadden are actual baritones, they have a thicker vocal. In the years where Guy, David and Mark sings together, it was almost like 3 (classical) tenors, that’s why most of the songs in the time they sing are very powerful-house, and classical. While Guy, David and Marsh blend together, even though it’s a short time, they blend in more light R&B style. (When Wes replaced David, the group almost shift out of classical styles, and transfer more to pop styles rather than classical ones. The newest group right now no one is good at classical styles, at least for what I saw im their uploaded videos. Adam has rock styles, Todd was too bass, and doesn’t even sing like classical baritone-bass, Wes is Wes, and Reggie sings light country and pop)

This is the only time I have ever seen a visible competition between David and Wes on stage. It makes for a great version, but the "oneupmanship" is noticeable.

Thanks for posting. Love it! I must say, it seems as if Bill gave each singer "free will" on this. Nothing was "as usual"....changed notes, changed who-dunnit, etc. ha,ha. It was good.

I see no competition here...they all bring their own thing to the table. Why must we read between the lines and try & spot dis-unity? If you watch Wes's behind the scenes videos you will clearly see that these guys get along and love each other and have loads of fun...

I prefer to think both these dear hearts were just singing from the bottom of their heart. They are both great, both are talented, but slightly different. I prefer Wes's presentation a bit more than David's, but I love to listen to both of them. Add Michael English to the mix and it's dynamite. Love them all, even funny Mark,

It was an Eb5, David usually structures that part according to the structure the 1st solo did which would be Wes Singing the Bb4s-C5s so David sang higher than the usually C#5s he normally does
