Before she was Wonder Woman, she was princess Diana of the Amazons who was trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on an isolated island paradise, Diana leaves home when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, a conflict she is confident she can stop. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny. BUILD hosts Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, Connie Nielsen, Chris Pine and director Patty Jenkins as they drop by to talk about the highly-anticipated film, "Wonder Woman." Gal Gadot has to be one of the prettiest women ever. And to top it off, you can tell she doesn't take herself too serious. Makes her look even better.

In response to the question, " What do you hope people will take from this movie the most?" Gal Gadot: ".... we left cynicism aside. We went back to simple values-- simplicity... to values which are very valuable and relevant, especially nowadays. And if it's love, compassion, acceptance... and justice, truth, and peace, I hope this movie will make people look inside themselves-- be better, be good!" Truly, a wonderful woman and human being!!!!!

I think the interviewer was kind of a douchbag. Talking about feminism and then on 18:51 asks Gal, more or less, how was it for a nobody like her to watch that the film is actually good. He would never ask a beginner male actor this kind of question, as if she didn't had a part of the team work. And on 29:07 he asks her a question which she already being asked before by the woman from the crowd.

I think what I like most about Patty is that she's not making this a gender thing. Wonder Woman is about the inner hero in all of us, period. It's not "oh it's a female superhero", it's just a superhero, and that's how it should be. Yes, Wonder Woman is a feminist icon, but she's one of the greatest characters in fiction. I feel sorry for those who need a character to be their gender in order to resonate or relate to them. If you can't see past gender and appreciate a good character, then that's on you. Only difference between men and women are some body parts. We all have the same emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Can't wait to see Diana portrayed on the big screen!
@FreakOfNature2030

I'm not familiar with any of Patty's other work but to succeed on a nearly impossible feat of one of the most iconic projects in the realm of super heros she must be a special director who is very skilled in the craft of creation, highly emotionally intelligent and keenly perceptive. I too feel sorry for those who need a superhero character to be the same so to be able to relate but only the male gender. There's an unnecessary and unfair overabundance if not intentionally executed dominance of male super hero characters in contrast to female. That's why and it's got to change and get balanced out. I sincerely hope this film helps redirect the pendulum in that direction permanently not because I favor one gender over the other or define each in a specific way but because they are both equally great as complimentary. I'm so excited to see this.

You hit the nail on the head. I feel like it's also the reason why so many people are looking forward to this movie, not just females. It seems like a lot of these feminist-driven movies only market to women, and they just automatically expect men & boys to just fall in line, but the truth is all we want in our movies is a character to relate to. It's funny cause for me, Wonder Woman is my favorite superhero, but after her, all my other faves are male. And that's because I admire their values & character, it has nothing to do with their gender.
@AlexLove631
@AlexLove631 7 жыл бұрын
Sarah Ramirez, 100% dude. My issue with feminism today is that it's taken two meanings. The actual meaning is equality, but it seems like a vocal minority have spun it to something resembling superiority. And unfortunately, the latter has really made a negative dent on the actual term. Thus, causing some to turn away whenever they hear "feminism". I think some movies/shows really suffer with this. Supergirl, for example, really started off poorly. I remember lines like "Why, cause she's a girl?" and I just shake my head. They're trying to be progressive, but it looks like the opposite. You should never have to point out a character's gender (something Jessica Jones knew--which was refreshing to see). We should ignore and forget these old stereotypes instead of acknowledging them. That's the only way we move forward. Reminding us of them just keeps it alive. Wonder Woman isn't just for girls. She's for everyone. Same with Batman, Spidey, and Superman. I hate the whole "girl-power" thing not because I don't want to see powerful women, but because I think they're already powerful and saying that they can be just implies that they aren't--which is stupid. I know I went on a mini rant, so my apologies lol.

Because they always have a tough time admitting a man plays second fiddle to a woman. I remember him being on I think Kimmel and Kimmel making fun of him for playing the love interest like it was horribly embarrassing when in fact women have been playing the love interest since basically forever. But a man being the love interest and not the main character? So humiliating.
@johncourtright1632
@johncourtright1632 6 жыл бұрын
If you think Steve is arm candy, a sidekick, or playing second fiddle to Diana in the movie, I think you are missing the point. He is an integral character in the story. Yes, the story is primarily about Diana's journey from a little girl to a super hero, but in the movie Diana and Steve model a beautiful relationship between a man and a woman, based on equality and mutual respect. While their respective roles in the story were very different, and Diana could certainly do things that Steve couldn't do, I find the mutuality they modeled in their relationship to be one of the most amazing and important aspects of the film. They provided role models which both young girls and boys can learn from and aspire to, not because everyone has to be the same, but because within the context of a relationship of equality and mutual respect, each person is free to be themselves and to fully embrace the power of their own uniqueness. I found their relationship to be amazing and profound. Notions of "second" are irrelevant.
@chimneysweep0754
@chimneysweep0754 6 жыл бұрын
i actually completely agree with your point. I dont believe Steve was a sidekick, or arm candy. However, im talking about how in society, when the man is the main character, women are often made to feel as though they come second , even though their characters are just as important as the titular male character. For example, Hermione Granger /Emma Watson in the harry potter series. If you look at her interviews , a lot of times she is asked vain , superficial, questions as if she were the "girlfriend character" when she is an essential, equal to the harry potter character. However here, even though Steve is a secondary character in the story, with Diana being the protagonist, in all his interviews Chris is asked questions in which the interviewers are sort of trying to give him more importance or something. I dont know if thats just my perseption. for example, they have a hard time calling him wonder womans love interest.which he is. but i feel like they find something wrong with having a man being the boyfriend of a female superhero. in some intervirews they ask him even more questions than they ask her. Its not about the substance of the character in the movie, i agree with you on that, its about these interviiews

Very enjoyable movie. Patty Jenkins spoke of all of the key elements that made the movie great but left out one key element: The point that she clearly drew many of her thoughts and ideas directly from "Captain America" The First Avenger!!!!!!! Watch both movies side by side and the similarities will shock you. I'm not trying to take anything away from WW but I doubt that it would ever have been anywhere as good a movie had CA never come out. Wonder Woman, while far more powerful than Captain America, embodies all the key, pure of heart self sacrificing characteristics that makes the two of them the greatest characters for both the DC & Marvel Universes. Lastly, when you look at how Gal Gadot & Chris Evans truly embody their characters, it makes you wonder how any other actor could ever play those roles. Hats off to the casting directors for both movies!!!!!

Gauthaman Koyamparambath what? Gina Carno warrior throwback .? huh? wyd? do you even Wonder Woman? @bloodthirstyworks
@bloodthirstyworks 7 жыл бұрын
panthergod There has been many iterations of the character though. I loved the wonder woman in justice league: war for eg. This is how i approach stories. Diana is an amazon and her race of people are warriors who are born and brought up in the ways of war. There is no diversity there in the sense, all of them are uniquely warriors. How could a person brought up only in the ways of war just understand peace? Your opinions, perspective and behavior is built from strictly from the environment you grew up in, the people you surround yourself with and your experiences. So its only logical to assume that if wonder woman suddenly left the island and entered our world, she would be more for glorious battles and the honor of fighting in them. While in war in our world, after witnessing the other side of it where thousands of people die especially innocents, then it makes sense for wonder woman to start questioning war and advocate for peace. Because on her island, were there any great wars and loss of life while she was growing up? So once she sees that our world is not entirely made up of warriors like her world and that we have the concept of civilians and how warriors are supposed to protect the civilians in our world, then she questions war. Not war as a concept but war in the context of our world. She sees that innocent people who arent trained in battle are getting slaughtered and she fights against that. That makes sense for me. And you have a great character arc where wonder woman starts as a little arrogant, fierce warrior and by entering our world gets introduced to a whole.new perspective. She questions, she has conflicts and she triumphs over them to becomes true hero. A great hero isnt someone who simply saves other people, a great hero is one who first and foremost conquered their own fears and conflicts and matures from the experience to be in a position where he/she realizes they can change the world for the better because they were able to do it for themselves. The triumph over their own demons gives them the courage to conquer the demons if others.

But Gal's been doing these interviews back to back too, her role was much more demanding and she just had a baby. Yet she's always smiling and interested in all her interviews.

Press is still part of the job. Every actor knows this. There are plenty of actors who've been doing this for years on end, with, I might add, larger and more demanding roles than Chris, yet they are always just as bright, bubbly and interested in interviews. That's professionalism. Chris also stating he "isn't a fan of superhero movies" is flat out arrogant and tactless. Him also dismissing his character as just there to flirt with Gal and leaving out the part that his character has more to him that that - his bravery and his sacrifice shows he's just dismissive of the whole thing. You just don't see actors being this tactless in interviews - maybe this is different because the lead is a woman, the film is very female-centered and the director is female so he thinks he can say whatever he wants. His attitude is problematic here and it's quite frankly disappointing. Don't blame the interviewer only.

1. LOL "sensitive" people. Like I said, there is a concept known as "professionalism" and he showed a clear lack of it. You sound very insecure and defensive. And "triggered" is a word you people sure love to use when you just don't have a proper rebuttal. The only one triggered around here is you, for some reason. Are you related to Chris or something? Lol. I like him and certainly liked him in the film but I don't think his attitude was great here - it seemed to stand out even more against Gal's enthusiasm - and I'm not a celebrity worshipping idiot that I won't point it out when it's so blatantly obvious. He just looked bored throughout the whole thing yet the others seemed genuinely interested and passionate in their replies. They were all being interviewed by the same guy you know. It's not like all the dumb questions were reserved for Chris and everyone else got asked more intelligent things. 2. And yes, people don't care if he's a superhero fan or not - he just didn't have to say it, it was totally unnecessary, alienating, slightly arrogant and tactless. Again, my point being professionalism. This is an interview for a superhero movie in which you were cast opposite the lead in a smaller, but very important role. Their rapport was essential to the success of this movie. Fans are very passionate about the franchise. Who's watching these interviews? Fans. And if someone randomly switched to a channel and sees an interview about a new superhero movie and the actor's sitting there bored and saying "I don't like superhero movies" LOL well, it's pretty ridiculous and tactless. He wasn't asked specifically "are you a superhero fan"? To which, he must of course reply NO with the utmost truthfulness. *eyeroll* He just barged into the middle of a question with his opinion when nobody asked. 3. Dude you need to calm down. Stop jumping from one extreme to the other. Like he can either be arrogant and aloof or grinning like a crackhead throughout the interview. There is something known as middle ground here. 4. You can say this is all a novelty for Gal and that's why she's so bubbly and gracious but she would be like that even if this was her fiftieth movie and her third month into a busy press schedule. Because that's just her personality. She's delightful with zero pretense. 5. Lastly, learn the meaning of the words you employ in your attempt to sound intelligent. There was nothing "irrational" about my reply. Check yourself. Comprehension skills? LOL please take a look at your own okay? No need to get all offended. I'm just pointing out that Chris's attitude here could've been a little better. I've seen comments on the facebook fan page where people have noticed his slight condescension towards Gal's speaking English in other interviews - I haven't seen those interviews yet - but I definitely took notice when I saw a bunch of those comments from different people all noticing this, that I really start to question his attitude in general.

This preview gave me goose bumps! Over the years I've watched with ambivalence the geeky delights of my childhood, eg Transformers, X-men, LOTR translated into pop culture cash cows. On the one hand I'm thrilled and gratified to see the rest of the country recognize the value of what I was teased for enjoying, on the other, I'm often been disappointed by the results. With Wonder Woman, I am not only excited, I'm RELIEVED, that an icon I revered has been handled with such intelligence and respect.

Ricky said it right. This is a good superhero movie which in itself is rare. Having low or no expectations i was gripped and moved by this film. I'm a lifelong comic fan and collector and so have been bitterly disappointed with low bar set by nearly all the other efforts. Ok fine i enjoy a straight action entertainment flick too now and then but it's a joke and a terrible missed opportunity that just when technology got to the point that these characters could be believably realised in film , they were criminally undersold in virtually every other aspect. This is what makes Patty Jenkins effort stand out. For my money only she and Kenneth Brannagh gave the material the respect needed to make something worthwhile and they both very much succeeded. It's such a shame so much else is being pissed away on disposable efforts that will be very quickly forgotten.

If the interviewer was only going to talk to Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins, it should have just been the two of them doing this interview. What was the purpose of having Chris and the other woman there if they were barely going to get asked questions? Everyone here is complaining about how Chris looks, he was probably BORED.
