A bouquet of the very finest music is in store for you at the International Classical Music Awards 2023 Gala Concert. The NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero, will perform with the award winners, who will present the most beautiful pieces from their repertoire. The 13th ICMA concert takes place on April 21, 2023 at the Grand Auditorium of the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, Poland.
The following outstanding musicians will be participating: soprano Ermonela Jaho (Artist of the Year), violinists Leonhard Baumgartner (Discovery Award) and Tassilo Probst (Chamber Music Award), violist Sào Soulez Larivière (Young Artist of the Year), cellists David Geringas (Lifetime Achievement Award) and Gabriel Schwabe (for NAXOS, the Label of the Year), double bassist Marc-André Teruel (ICMA Classeek Award), three pianists Maxim Lando (Chamber Music Award), Josu de Solaun (Solo Instrument Award) and Alessandro Marangoni (Special Achievement Award), and organist Karol Mossakowski (Orchestra Award). The Capella de Ministreres (Early Music Award) ensemble, which specializes in Spanish music will also be participating, conducted by Carles Magraner (Early Music Award). A work by Swiss composer David Philip Hefti, recipient of the Composer Award, will also be performed.

As all music should be. Art is about expression from the artist. The best art is not contrived like we are all so familiar with today, full of clickbait and tabloid nonsense. Instead, it is what the artist feels and has the talent and fortitude to present it in a way the rest of us can experience it. If we can relate to tit, that's a plus. But the art will be art to the composer, writer, painter, photographer, or any other talent daring enough to share their emotions.

What fantastic performances! Particularly impressive is Leonhard Baumgartner’s rendition of Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Havanaise”: this up-and-coming young violinist’s playing is both heartfelt and stunningly virtuoso. And the interpretation of Max Bruch’s “Romance” by Sào Soulez Larivière is no less than sublime.

The Toccata from the Symphonie concertante for Organ and Orchestra by Joseph Jongen provided a most awesome finale to the Gala Concert. I adore this work of his and hearing that last movement was so uplifting. It's a terribly difficult piece for the soloist to play -- one reviewer said the organist "must possess a black belt in Organ technique" -- and hearing it carried off as if it were no effort at all is amazing!! Bravissimo!!

I must say I was listening blind and had no idea who was singing. I came back to my computer to check who was singing with what sounded like a rather uncontrolled wobble and my jaw dropped as I saw Jaho. For the past ten years, if you had asked me who the most complete opera singer of our days is, I would have said Jaho. So sad to have heard this - I guess the end of an era for this superb artist... or hopefully a bad day!

I first loved this wonderfulusic played by Pablo Casals. Throughout my life I gained inspiration from a quotation attributed to Pablo Casals: I believe the capacity to care is what gives life its greatest meaning/significance. The other Cellist whose performance of the Bruch Kol Neidra brings me to tears is Jacqueline Du Pres... beautiful young cellist taken far too early. My father's younger sister Hillary CHANDLER Griffiths first drew my attention to this wonderful instrument.
