Hey another day another bastardization of the Tolkien universe, in the same way I have not expected to see 'stupid sexy Shelob' and we did in the Monolith video game Shadow of War, sequel to Shadow of Mordor ;). Jokes aside it's really strange how they depicted the character in the tv show but it's just another of the misinterpretations of the complex Tolkien characters...especially the positiive ones, the author of the video may be exaggerating at moments but it's weirdly accurate how he describes the compulsive need to fight in the tv show. Tolkien Galadriel was never that obsessed :)...what she had was an ambition to rule her own kingdom, desire of freedom and exploration, a bit pride but tempered with her deep understanding of others, compassion and kindness...all traits missing from tv show portrayal (plus book Galadriel had more mystical power interests, we can simplify her as 'sorcererss' type though to elves magical powers are part of their nature).

@@Whitby_Abbeys_Ghost yeah, I still will criticise the use of lore in those games, for indeed those games did a lot of stuff in weird ways, but of course it was nothing else than fanfic, with an enjoyable gameplay (but the story in thegames of Monolith as an after thought anyway), still I would love one day to see a proper single player open world RPG set in Tolkien's world using the lore to full potential faithfully :) there is enormous potential for video games in Lotr universe shame though that the license is so far in the wrong hands :), first EA in true manner of evil corporation cancelled the White Council project, a game that potentially could have been hit :) later WB doesn't do enough with it Shadow of Mordor and it's sequel are probably the larger entries and still they are but shadow of what could be done in the gaming with this franchise! The lore rich worlds are ideal for rpg games :) you can have something that would be better than Elder Scroll,s Dragon Age and so on...hehe, you can have a Red Dead Redemption 2 style game with large open sandbox that uses the lore of Tolkien to create vast living world and I bet the game would do well :). Thing is the Shadow of War went really off rails when it comes to alterations and changes but also in the same time wasn't really intent on exploring the intricacies of this world :).

@@fantasywind3923 She is a magic caster class, whatever particular class. Probably Noble Elven Maiden I would put it, which does not seem impressive at first but if you put in perspective: the fact that she is Thousands of years old; and the fact that she learned her crafts from the Gods themselves (the Valar, and Melian the Maia), it is something out of the ordinary. I wouldn't say she is a sorceress because there is a lot of reference in the book to 'Elvish Magic' particularly. So not sorcery. They say that to the elves their magic is Art, so the magic she does is not a spell, but a craft. Hence she weaves the magic capes for the fellowship members to use, capes which are almost supernaturally good camouflage, and in all terrains. Hence she produces the Phial of Galadriel, which can dispel any darkness. These are all items of her magic craftswork. Another example of her craft is the lasting beauty of beings around her, in Lothlórien, where time is stalled and things don't wane or die, but instead become renewed. She really has got some very overpowered stuff if you think about it. She also has the ability to have premonitions and look into the unseen. Unfortunately her depiction in this series twists every single aspect of her true story, down right to the core. If you look at the archetype idea behind Galadriel, she is the opposite of any evil. She is Beauty, Purity, Wisdom, Healing, Mending, Ancient Knowledge. She is a clear representation of Divinity. These guys are really some twisted fucks to have taken things in this direction.

The thing that disturbs me the most is that the writers genuinely thought they were writing her as a hero. This is what happens when you hire a team of mentally disturbed psychopaths to create a "heroic" character. They're unable to understand why the average viewer is shocked and appalled by Galadriel's bloodthirsty campaign of genocide.

It really reminds me of Wandavision. Wanda holds an entire town hostage with her magic because she couldn't get over her grief like a normal person. It was so bad that the enslaved people were begging her to kill them because they were suffering so much pain. And then when the army general came to free the town that Wanda was holding hostage, HE was portrayed as the villain. Same for She Hulk who rudely told Hulk that being catcalled in the street was worse than him being hunted by the military, the woman he loved dying, and everyone seeing him as a monster that needs to be put down. Damn, these modern day female protagonists are so villainous. There is nothing wrong with having a female main character that is the villain, the problem arises when the writers want to keep "insisting" that they are just "misunderstood" or they are "good all along" while male villains don't receive any mercy.

It's crazy that she gives off psychotic vibes even as a child. So focused on her boat she was ready to beat another child up for throwing a rock at it. The emotion she displays in that scene is also bizarrely cold, until her creation gives her some amount of life. Her admiration for an inanimate object being greater then that of another living creature is another psychotic element.

It reminds me of a story by G. A. Henty. "With Wolf in Canada." The main character, James, saves the little granddaughter of an old soldier from drowning. The old soldier then askes the mother of James if she could care for his granddaughter Aggie for a few years and teach her to be a little lady, because he could not do it while running a traveling peep show. James becomes a big brother for Aggie and made a model boat to sail around in small ponds. The boat got stuck and James tried to dislodge it by tossing small stones to make waves. The antagonist, Richard, then comes up. He is the nephew of the squire and heir to a large estate and fortune. He had become spoiled and did whatever he liked. He took a large stone to dislodge the boat, misjudged his aim, and hit the boat. Aggie understandably became upset, and said that he was a bad boy to wreck her boat. Upset, Richard called her a baby and gave her a little push. The push was enough for Aggies to lose her balance, slip, and dirty her dress. James then gave him a tremendous punch in the face, nocking Richard down. A "fight" ensued. Richard, despite being 2 years older, was no match for James. Richard then tried to lie his way out of the situation with his uncle, but was disproven and sent to sea for a chance to reclaim his character. Soon afterword, the old soldier reveled that Aggie was the long lost daughter of the Squire's dead son. James would later go to America and have many adventures in the French and Indian War. Richard tried to get revenge on James when he tried go get James captured, (and executed), when James went to spy out Quebec. Richard's treachery was discovered and he was arrested. James however had mercy for Richard and helped him to escape to have a second chance of life in the colonies. And of course, James marries Aggie because this is a Henty story. While Guyladriel was ready to punch a kid for sinking her boat, James punched someone bigger than himself to stand up for a girl in his charge. Of course a male standing up for a defenseless women is toxic to Amazon.

@@abooga8 I have read almost all of Henty's books,(nearly 100), and I would recommend them. Henty wrote books from about 1870 to his death in 1902. He was known as "the boy's own historian." Henty's stories are almost all historical fiction. The books mostly follow the same format. The hero of the story is a young man (usually around 16-18 when the book starts), and then he takes part in some conflict or war in history from ancient Egypt to the Boxer Rebellion in China. The hero is always a fine moral person who thinks nothing of rescuing someone who is in trouble. The hero is modest and always makes light of his achievements. The hero often has a mischievous streak in him to cause harmless pranks. The history in Henty's stories is for the most part extremely accurate. The only reason some of it is not is because the history Henty used is from the late 19th Century. The only time Henty changed history, (outside of the fictional characters), is in "In the Reign of Terror," but Henty admitted to the change in the preface of the book by saying he moved the event forward in time so he could use it for the hero and his charge's escape from France. Henty, being English, understandably has a pro-English point of view. But he is actually pro-Scotland in the book "In Freedom's Cause." Books I would recommend in addition to "With Wolf in Canada" are: "Beric the Briton, a tale of the Roman invasion," "The Dragon and the Raven," "In Freedom's Cause, a tale of Wallace and Bruce," "The Cornet of Horse, a tale of Marlborough's wars," "Out on the Pampas" (Henty's first book), "St. Bartholomew's Eve, a tale of the Huguenot wars." If you want to listen to a henty book for free, you can go to Librivox.org. The readers are all volunteers so some are better than others. The reader Mark Harris is really good, he did "The Dragon and the Raven," "One of the 28th, a tale of Waterloo," and "On the Irrawaddy." I read "With Moore at Corunna" and "Under Wellington's Command."

@awierbinski3659

The Rings of Amazon is an intentional subversion of not just good characters, but of the underlying ethical system each character/race represented in Tolkien''s works. "Subversion," starts with casting and costumes (and acting) physically depicting elves in modern terms, as either twinks or old queens. This was a subtle, "gay" subversion that the writers were likely laughing about until the show bombed. "Subversion," continues by depicting Númenóreans not as the strongest, wisest, most honorable humans in existence, but as reflections of the writer's modern views of populist Trumpists. This subversion of Tolkien for "modern" audiences continues with Orcs having, "humanity," and the evil of Sauron being not existential, not as their core motivation, but caused by societal (structural) racism. That was not what Tolkien wrote... Hobbits are dirty traveling psychopaths, having none of the delightful characteristics Tolkien endowed them...the opposite, in fact. Tolkien intended to write a very detailed, replacement, "mythology," for England and Northern Europe, which contained precise family histories of humans, elves, dwarves, and wizards over thousands of years. I wonder what people would say if Wakanda was sprinkled with random white people among the various tribes and families? Would that make, "sense," to modern audiences? How does inserting POC elves and dwarves in Tolkien's Mythology? (It does not) The Rings of Amazon, besides being an abomination celebrating evil (as so well pointed out by our delightful Despot of Antrim, above), is a direct insult to Tolkien and all Tolkien fans, it is bad film-making, and finally, it attempts to be a series of bitch-slap subversions of every one of Tolkien's character-types, and the ethical systems and beliefs they represented in his works. As a result the writers-director-show runners fell into their own trap, their mutilations of Tolkien failing to subvert anything but themselves, by revealing themselves as moral, mental, and philosophical midgets hiding in the shadows of Tolkin's literary and ethical greatness. Rescue the Series? I have an idea. Re-dub all the sound from the first season, removing all references to Tolkien. They have enough film to rewrite the scrip, & turn this pile of S into a B- level (non-Tolkien!!) fantasy that would be better if re-dubbed into something else. They can call it, "The Warrior Princess from Hell." Plus, redubbing would add a dimension of amusing humorousness, like watching one of those early Godzilla films with the bad English dubbing. Turn this tragedy into a comedy! If they did that, and actually adapted Tolkien for the second season, I might be persuaded to watch the first episode of the second season, but right now I'll stick to the Despot for my, "Rings," and other more proficient film-makers (Drinker, et al,) than watching any more of this Amazon Abomination. Another Brilliant Work by the Despot.

If non-Whites are People of Colour, it implicates Whites as colourless. I can't help but smile at that thought since it refers to "Saruman of Many Colours" in a way the scourge of the Eorlings. Evil can't help but show its hand. The Orcs are writing the script and not only with LoTR. Tolkien's works have taken a prophetic quality as if they weren't astounding enough already. This series can remain as a testament for anti-White hatred. Other than that, let decent people and moral studios be the creators of an LoTR series if the West wants it so. I personally will NEVER give as much as a rusted penny to thosee destroyers of culture who take a great man's works and twist and warp as sure as the Elf is twisted into the Orc.

Cops do not protect from the criminals, instead they are bastards. Whores are now 'sex workers' and their work is 'empowering'. Religious people are fanatics and dangerous. Galadriel was supposed to be a protagonist. All this is intended but the reasons for this brainwashing are not yet clear. It was the first thing I thought when I saw that. The white horse symbolizes death. Many war movies and TV shows like Fury and Peaky Blinders have used it. Game of Thrones did too after Daenerys' genocide. And Galadriel always rides one... Then again, so did Gandalf. But Gandalf rode many horses.
@DZ-oz8co
@DZ-oz8co Жыл бұрын
Actually this is a common mistake but the white horse was actually not rode by Death but by the first Horseman, Conquest. I am using the bible as a reference of course, and not the other version of the Four Horsemen which is "War, Famine, Death and Pestilence". While the bible's version of the four is "Conquest, War, Famine and Death". The horse rode by Death was called "Pale" in some translation this is possibly mistaken as "white" but it is not. It is Pale as in sickly, possibly a very pale green. Revelation 6:8 (Look! a pale horse, and the one seated on it had the name Death.) The true rider of the White Horse, is one of Conquest which is in Revelation 6:2 (Look! a white horse, and the one seated on it had a bow and a crown was given him, and he went out conquering and to complete his conquest) and 19:11. ("Look! a White Horse, the one seated on it is called Faithful and True, and he judges and carries on war in righteousness"). That could refer to be Jesus Christ. Biblically speaking, the color white is referred to as Holy and the symbol of righteousness and spiritual cleanness. But depending on cultures, such as ones in Asia, the color White represents Death. However, since we are talking about Tolkien and he does use aspects of his faith in his books. We should used what the color white refers in the scriptures rather than what white represents in other cultures. I think the show runners wants us to believe that this Galadriel is "holy" and "morally upright" which of course her actions in that show do not reflect.

One more parallel is the Galadriel rides a white horse which is symbolic of the horseman of Death who rode on the same color of horse. This explains her thirst for blood and unbridled drive to kill. Starting with her impassive reaction to all the dead elves and even willing to let her own company die in her quest to find Sauron, since he spared so many from her blade. She's the bringer of Death, starting with the orcs. Her tempest, if left unquelled, could devour the entire world. I wouldn't be surprised if her tempest is what leads to the wave the claims Numenor and all the lives within.

I disagree about Sauron as a hero, but I strongly agree that ROP Galadriel is a psychopath. She has so many of the traits of psychopaths, its quite disturbing. These include lack of empathy, a total lack of conscience, a tendency to be manipulative. the use of violence if other methods to control others or enact her will fail, and dishonesty. She pretty much lies continually throughout the series. Being manipulative is a major characteristic of psychopathy and according to what i have read and heard, distinguishes it from other psychological conditions such as narcissism or sociopathy. Sociopaths are not generally manipulative and are not good at hiding thier true nature- psychopaths are. It pays to mention at this point that some psycologists think there pyscopathy is more common than we think, because the vast majority of psycopaths are not serial killers, or even violent. They are simply people who revel in having power over others and don't have a consience: many are believed to work in big business, politics or the movie industry. Galadriel manipulates everyone. She manipulates Halbrand, but I argue her worst manipulation was of Miriel, when she won her over with a pretense of humility and compassion in Episode 4-5. She did this by pretending that she was on her side and wanted to help Miriel save her people from destruction after she learned about Miriel's visions of the great wave destroying Numenor. This was done to convince Miriel that the only way to save Numenor was to obey her and provide her with an army to go to war on the Southlands. The final stroke was when the White Tree shed its blossoms, which was interpreted as a sign of divine disfavour for Miriel sending Galadriel away without an army. Now, it may have been a lazy deus ex machina, but I almost think Galadriel herself might have made that happen. She has magical powers after all, and its very convenient that the Valar themselves appeared to be assenting to her plan and intentions. A way of scaring Miriel into compliance when all else failed? Do I think this was intentional? No. I don't think it was. I simply think that the inexperienced writers believed the way to create a "strong woman" was to give Galadriel all the traits of a man, including the bad ones. There seems to be a pattern with this in Hollywood. Give a female all the characteristics and behaviours that would be considered "toxic" if a man displayed them and call her a "strong woman". Make her unstable, immoral, violent, arrogant, unscrupulous, manipulative, entitled and self-centred, but pretend that her being female somehow sanctifies these traits and makes them "good".

Whats worse is how it further mocks tolkein. Tolkien struggled with writing the orcs at the start and he couldnt bring himself to not give them souls or make them pure evil because of his christian view on how all living things are the creation of God and not a mistake. He would eventually write the scene where sam hides after shelob stabs frodo and the orcs who find him talk about how they want to leave and be free to do as they wish away from the lash of Sauron. To tolkein Orcs have souls and are simply an enslaved race who never had the choice of being free and only in subservience of a dark lord and never being given any kindness only given to them by Aragorn after the War of the Ring who gave them lands to remain and did not lead extermination crusades as the elves did in the earlier ages. Tolkien would be distraught at how the orcs are treated as a simple thing that only deserves to die when all he wanted was to show how they are not pure evil they were never given a choice but slavery.

This is so crazy. The first time I saw the scene between Galadriel and Adar there was something about it that made me very uneasy. Something so dark and disturbing that I could not believe that this monstrous character was actually being sold to the audience as some sort of hero. Someone so inherently evil can not be offered any kind of redemption. What awoke in her was not the result of her brother's death, but something that has already lived inside her and was simply waiting to come out. I knew somewhere I had watched something that made me feel the same way. After a few days I remembered. There is a scene in a film called "Come and See" One of the final scenes shows a German officer, captured during WWII. While being interrogated he reveals his twisted ideology and the reason he saw fit to murder kids. "Because all the trouble starts with the kids" he says. "Your nation doesn't deserve to exist. Some nations have no right to a future" "Your nation must be exterminated. We'll carry out this mission, if not today, then tomorrow" That's when it hit me, why my dislike for this character was so unlike any other before. Usually, I am simply annoyed by badly written female characters. My reaction to this one however, was so visceral and repudiating and I could not figure out why. Now I know, and I am not the only one that's seen it. The worst part is that the entire show, the writers and show-runners actually wanted me to believe that this is some kind of hero. They wanted to implant a twisted , corrosive and vulgar idea in my head. Where exactly is this propaganda piece leading to? While I do not believe it was all intentional, because that's giving them way too much credit, I do believe that this speaks to the subconscious ideations of the people that created this. Much like the fantasies of a mass shooter.

it was 100% intentional. Even if it wasnt intentional of the writers, it is intentional as a general message: postmodernism. (And they just became 'useful idiots' for it). Postmodernism, now also known as woke, critical theory, progressism, and many other names, has one specific, explicit and defined goal: corruption, dismantlement, queering (yes, the actual definition and how it is used in the various 'foundational' texts, is 'to make crooked, to contort, corrupt and overturn'). Of old morals, of old archetypes, of old values. Good things? They are from the 'sexist oppressive heteronormative patriarchy' (verbatim) and must be broken down no matter what. Aesoph's fables? They have to go. Old saying and 'common sense'? They have to go. Morality? oh that HAS to go, especially since its whats in between what they want and themselves. All the safeguarding, safety and stability that we took millennias to accrue, consolidate, conserve? They have to go in the upcoming cultural revolution (the red book rearing its snake head from the cracks once again), to make way for the new world to come. It sounds insane when you breach the subject to normal people, and thats another way they feel safe about doing all of this. "A plan so insane it might just work, because who is going to believe the whistleblowers?"

Erode the values of society so that the people are reliant on the government for everything, and then take over the government while everyone is foudationaly lost. Most times the people who spout this nonsense do it in the opposite order, but you see it time and time again. At the end of the Reign of Terror, they tried to establish "Reason" as a God (The Cult of the Supreme Being). In Russia they encouraged people to turn on their very own families. In China they are afraid of any mention of their own history or folklore, that they've tried to bury it in places. That's the reason why ghost movies and talking animal films are banned. Point to a communist country and you'll see similar issues.

you missed another great moment of the writers foreshadowing Galadriel as this monster. in the scene of her as a child, her boat is ruined by some kids throwing rocks at it, and her brother Finrod tells her that rocks sink into darkness, while boats float to light, and the only way to know which to follow is to touch the darkness. this is expertly called back on in the scene where gladrieal is on a boat, almost reaching elven heaven, but she jumps down, sinking to the dark depths of the ocean. this is capitalized on even more, as due to this action, she encounters sauron, the light trying to guide her away, but she is too far gone, with constant imagery of darkness used for Galadriel, while sauron gets bathed in light.

This is a way of subconsciously programming the masses to normalize psychopathic behaviours through the main characters. There is an implicit bias to root for the protagonists, regardless of their faults. However Galadriel has all the telltale signs of actually being the antagonist - being proactive instead of reactive, failing to learn anything but rather having an inverse of the heroes journey. In her eyes there is no redemption, no peace and no sacrifice of one's self for the greater good. Just death and destruction to satisfy her own personal needs in spite of everything and everyone else.

@@logicaldude3611 In the creators' woke eyes, a perfect "strong woman" is one that can do absolutely anything, has no character flaws, does not need any form of help from a (usually white) man (who are shown as pathetic), if anything bad happens to her, she cannot get over the grief of it and the hate that it brings becomes her main character trait, villains are meant to be weak and pathetic, often absolutely obliterated by the "strong female" hero and eventually turning into comic relief or a likeable protagonist-like character, the "strong female" has to be automatically accepted by any (female and/or non-white) side characters as a friend even if they have just met her, she has no character arc and stays as perfect as she started as or she has a pseudo-arc that does not actually end with her changing but seems like it does, and finally she has to have no (usually white) male partner/love interest/husband, and even if she has one they have to either be a pathetic loser or end up revealed as evil, going as far as to getting rid of those characters from the source material (if there are any). All of those rules result in the character coming off either as a tool to drive the plot forward, as a literal plank of wood with no emotions or character traits, or as a villainous, unlikeable b*tch that makes the villain look like the hero (sometimes all three, like we see with RoP Galadriel)

@@logicaldude3611 Anakin was not unlikable.. Wtf? He wanted to free his family from slavery, he wanted to help innocent people and this is why he wanted to be a Jedi Knight. He was inspired by the selflessness and compassion of the Jedi but also inspired by their great ability to fight evil. Anakin was driven by love for others through out the movies. Thanks to Palpatine's manipulations however, Anakin became afraid, fear took him over, fear over losing the ones he loved, especially his wife Padme. So Anakin became obsessed with finding a way to save his wife from death, his fear drove him to madness and it consumed him which drove him to become the monster we know as Darth Vader. Anakin is a relatable and human character, he is very likable and realistic. But I guess you are just another prequel hater without any substance or reality in your arguments, just blind hatred for the character because a ton of other people feel that way.

By creating a "mystery box" around him, and then ignoring the lore. Annatar helps the elves create rings of power [something Sauron can no longer do] which he then distributes to men and dwarves. The 3 Rings of the Elves were created after Sauron was discovered to be behind the crafting of the other rings, and so were less tainted [although not completely free of his influence]. Myster Box writing is lazy, but easy, which is why its so popular among those with no talent.
