Even the most hardcore Trek fans say this isn't just a parody, its true Trek! It's probably one of my fav comical scifi movies ever.

As Jonathan Frakes tells it, (Commander Riker from TNG), the Star Trek cast at the time went to see this movie and everyone absolutely loved it. The only one who was afraid to be parodied was Patrick Stewart but he eventually saw it and thought it was brilliant.

One of my all time favorite films, it's just a big love letter to Star Trek. So good and funny.I've lost track how many times I have rewatched this over the years.

I've always found it ironic that when Saris shot all the humans on the bridge, Guy the "doomed" crewman was the only one not to get shot.

This movie is such an underrated gem. Hilarious, so much fun to watch, and it's just the right amount of poking fun without being disrespectful.

I watched an interview of Patrick Stewart where he was asked if he had seen "Galaxy Quest". He said that many people had suggested/recommended/begged him to see the movie and he absolutely refused because he had lived it and wanted nothing more to do with it. Eventually, he gave in and saw the movie and had the best time, laughing the whole way through because it was so true to life.

The scene in the bathroom where Tim Allen hears the people talking about him was a true story taken directly from an experience William Shatner had at a Stat Trek convention.

I love this movie so much! A hilarious Trekkie love letter, and even though it doesn't take itself seriously, it also isn't afraid to have emotional moments that actually land. One of my favorite subtle jokes of the movie is that the Thermians also realized that Gwen's job was just "repeat computer", and they literally programmed their ship with that in mind. She has to be the one to give it instructions. Other people ask it questions, but the computer just ignores it until she repeats it.

Gwen said backstage at the convention that repeating the computer was her only job. On the Thermian ship, the computer only answers to HER voice, that's why it didn't answer any of Jason's questions.

You are the 1st reactor to say what I've said for years, that the 'wing" of the Protector would have hit the station before the bow would have.

A great reaction for anyone thats a Trekkie or SW fan. Used to love going to San Diego Comic Con 10+ years ago till it started selling online tickets and selling out before i was notified. Now it's about movies and cosplay. Glad i was apart of it when it was about comics. To give reference. Speaking of the people from the series that always die, you should check out: Redshirts (originally titled Redshirts: A Novel with Three Codas) is a postmodern science fiction novel, by John Scalzi that satirizes Star Trek. The high-ranking officers try to figure out why so many "redshirts" die on away missions and how they can recruit more...

Some of the continuity errors can probably be explained by how much they re editted it to drop the rating and make it more family friendly. There's a whole scene that explains why Weavers' top is suddenly open. She also says 'f that' but it's dubbed over with 'screw that' Also the engineer er deck sergant chen i think he's called is supposed to be stoned through the whole thing which explains why he's so chill about everything and eating all the time.

The best thing about watching people react to this movie is watching them realize the thermians are real aliens. Interesting because when this movie came out, we all knew the premise from the trailers before seeing the movie.

Did you notice how the engineer was always so calm no mater what? Also how he seemed to be snacking all the time? (How he was late during the first teleport, he was looking for food) - The dude was smoking the good stuff all movie lol

Great movie choice! I grew up watching the original Star Trek and even at age 9, I was puzzled why Uhura repeated what everyone had just heard the computer say. All the small details from the original tv series and the sci-fi conventions is part of what makes this movie a true gem! BTW, glad to see you back.

One of the great Star Trek films...Fun fact, Sigourney Weaver liked her blond wig so much she took it with her after the shoot. The actors that come on once and then are killed off are called Red Shirts...unless they are a major guest star, but they usually die too.

I’ve watched this movie dozens of times. A Star Trek and Star Wars fan, I’ve felt that this movie has held up better than some of the stories from those other universes. I’d love a TV series of these characters.

Pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be a typical blackhole, just an interesting interpretation of what an Einstein-Rosen Bridge might look like.

You finally came to this awesome movie, great reaction. Only movie I know which can compete in sci-fi comedy is an Indian movie "PK" (2014). Btw, Guy's last name was mentioned at the mines, when a commander called him Fleegman. This movie deserves so much, but maybe it has bad timing for being released the same year as "The Matrix".

I don't know how many times a friend or family member has asked me to help them with something and my first question is, " Is there any way they can construct a rudimentary lathe ?" Sam Rockwell (Guy) is great in this.

First off, check out the deleted scenes which explain why Sigourney's top is opened up at the end, second watch Sigourney's lips when she sees the chompers she does not say "screw that". Love what you do specially the part when the Limo gets sucked up into space and your face just freezes and I agree when they scrape the ship coming out of the dock the scratches would not be on the main fuselage.

I love this movie. It is a parodie and a homage to mostly Star Trek but also other scifi series, clichés and fandom. They also reference events like the toilet incident that happened to William Shatner or the boobs article that happened to Jeri Ryan.

This movie launched many careers in H’wood. Maybe the first movie for many - Missy Pyle, Justin Long, Rainn Wilson, Francis recruiter in Deadpool, Sam Rockwell’s second roll after Green Mile. 1999 in a single film.

Such an amazing movie. It is a love letter to the show and the fans. From what I understand, the bathroom scene is based on something that happened to Shatner. You need to watch "Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary" about how it got made.

You need to read the novel "Red Shirts", by John Scalzi. All about the extras in red shirts.

I was super into Star Trek in the mid seventies. I went to the conventions and this show was so well done that even real scientist's were consulted. I got a foldup paper blueprint of the entire ship. We did not have online access yet. But that thing they are doing with them guiding them through the ship to get to the core is VERY Star Trek like. These people got everything right about the skymatics.

The DVD had a bonus language selection for "Thermian" All the dialogue was dubbed over in their screechy language.

There are so many fun facts abou this movie. 1. Tech Sgt Kwan is squinting, because the original series was from a time when Hollywood wouldn't cast an Asian, but would rather have a white person play the Asian part (Carredine, KungFu). This was later retconned that he was high instead, after some criticism. 2. Rickman was initially excited to play this role because even though he disliked sci-fi, he found the script funny. 3. There is a scene where Tim Allen truly get's emotional. Rickman is quoted as saying "By God, I think he is experiencing acting." 4. The premise from the bathroom scene was taken from an actual event that happened to William Shatner. 5. Rockwell based his performance on Bill Paxton on Aliens. 6. Rickman absolutely hated making this film, because Tim Allen acted exactly like his character, always late and pompous. And he wasn't method acting. 7. Weaver complaining about the article about her boobs was based something that actually happened to an actress on ST:Voyager 8. Rickman holding his scanner upside down is a tribute to Leonard Nimoy, who often did the same on the first season of ST. 9. The female alien was only added after producers realized Weaver was the only female in the film. 10. Plans for a sequel was shelves after the death of Alan Rickman. The possibility was reignited in 2021 in an interview with Weaver and Allen. There is so much more. This is a film that gives on giving.

The cephalopod brain is an enigma to us mammals. We really have no idea what their consciousness is like; I would bet that octopus, squid, and cuttlefish have a sense of self and an awareness of their abilities that they use to survive that we would call consciousness.

At one of the big cons, San Diego I believe, in an open vote for the best Star Trek movie, this movie came in number five as a write-in campaign. So it has largely been considered one of the top 5 Star Trek movies ever since. Some of the interviews with Star Trek actors about seeing this movie were interesting, especially TNG people. Personally I think it's an amazing premise for a LARP. That would be a hoot, like, during a con, so meta. Once it got around, everybody would be in on it.
