Shed so many tears watching Brian's song. Great to see Gale Sayers was by Brian's side until the end. They finally reunited in that eternal friendship yesterday as Gale passed away. God bless them both.

I loved Gayle Sayers and I miss football, the football that I grew up loving, when talent and being part of a team mattered. I would give anything to have those days back.

I tell you the 1st time i watched Brian's song i Cried like a baby, It takes a lot for me to cry but when i Watched the Whole movie i laughed and mostly i cried, That man Mr Brian piccolo Really did have the courage of a lion Here's a man With Cancer and Fought his ass off to Beat it And tried to live not only for himself but for his Family, It Was A great story and a sad story in 1, R.I.P. I cry every time I see "Brian's Song." What a wonderful friendship Brian & Gale had.

I remember watching the Bears on Sunday afternoons at my grandparents, after Sunday dinner, and I always thought that Piccolo was a funny name. I was just a kid. Then I realized that I wasn't hearing his name anymore and I didn't know why. Not until after the movie came out. Over a decade ago when my mom passed away, I got a small inheritance, but I used some of it to buy one of each Sayers and Piccolo jerseys and have only worn them on very special occasions. Each of them have gotten positive comments when I've been a patient in the Orthopedic department at the University of Iowa. Great guys, both of them.

Watched the movie for the first time in 25 years last night. Holy cow. What a tear jerker. A fine film for it's time on t.v and later the theater. Makes you wonder why such a fine person goes so prematurely.

This is an era when professional sports players for the most part were humble. The most humble of them all is Gale Sayers, who to me is the best running back in the NFL, ever.

I hope Billy Dee Williams got an academy award for his part in this movie I cry every time I see ‘this movie.as well as James Caan and others.

First time in my life I ever actually teared up during a movie.

I have been a Wake Forest fan since '62 and the first college football game I attended was Wake-South Carolina in '63. Wake was on an 18 game losing streak but I didn't care about that or even understand just how bad a team they had as I begged my mom and and dad to take me to the game. We were treated to an 0-8 Wake team playing a 1-7 South Carolina team to a 20-19 dogfight that Wake pulled out at the end thanks to two third down pass interference calls on the game-winning drive. What a thrill for a 8 year old kid. The next season, Piccolo's Senior year, we went to the Wake-Duke game when Duke was still a decent program and Wake hadn't beaten them in 12 years. The Deacs won 20-7 and Piccolo scored all 20 points, with 3 TDs while succeeding on 2 of 3 PATs. He was a beast rushing for 113 yards on 36 carries, all between the tackles. It was unseasonably warm that November day with temps reaching 93 degrees. He had to be carried off the field as he nearly suffered heat exhaustion. Keep in mind that those were the days before sports drinks allowed players to quickly replace fluids. Piccolo was my first boyhood hero, Pistol Pete Maravich becoming the other a few years later, and I not only cried at the end of Brian's Song when it first aired, I cried some years ago when my son presented me with a framed Brian Piccolo card from when he was with the Bears.

Bryan's Song 71 is my favorite sports film, thanks for sharing this interview.

What a timeless, beautiful story from the 60’s. Should be front page news today in our again troubled times. So many excellent lessons here in this story. Michel Legrand’s “Brian’s Song” on piano for the movie is right up there with the greatest. Billie Dee Williams and James Caan performances incredible. Gale’s speech was centerpiece of the film and leaves me without words fitting to describe it.

I remember the first time I saw this movie when it first aired in 1972. I wept. This and Born Free are the only two movies that created that kind of emotion in me.

I watched the movie "Brian's Song in 1971. It was so sad.

Brian's Song was is an outstanding movie. Strong performances by Billy Dee Williams and James Caan. It's a real tear jerker.

I don't know much about NFL, so after watching Brian's song (excellent movie) I watched highlights of Gale, I'm so impressed with his grace,change of directions & speed. His right left fake step is beautiful.

Another great sports movie is, " Something for Joey". Came out in the 70's. It's about John Capaletti and his sick little brother who had leukemia and died.

The pride of Wake Forest. What a sad yet heartwarming story. RIP to both men.

Got to agree - Gale Sayers ran like know one before him and only Barry Sanders after him. Incredible cuts and the foresight to see the play 2 steps ahead before it developed

I remembered with this movie first aired there wasn't a dry eye in our house.

Sad story no matter how many times I watch the interviews it never gets easy to except the loss of a great legend and I wasn't born yet. But I have followed foootball since age 7 in 1977 and in 1980 I became a giants fan and still am at age 45. But I have heard so many stories about Gayle and the movie Brian's Song. I can't find it in my town anywhere. legend no doubt also a hero.

After Gales's injury, if it hadn't been for Brian, Gale would have been finished. Brian browbeat him and forced him to come back as one of the very best running backs in history. Gale was right when he said that Pic deserved the award.

Cry every time I see it

Gayle Sayers is the greatest back of all time. I been watching football for 60 years and I still haven't seen anyone else that could run so quickly and change direction instantly. My dad used say that Gayle could make tacklers miss in a phone booth.

They both were very close and had a strong love and friendship toward one another, that you can not fake.

A Great football movie.

I coach HS football in Texas. Every year I hear my students argue about who the greatest RB is. I always let them go and then tell them if you REALLY want to know who the greatest back ever was watch this, then put on a Gale Sayers video. Nobody has ever argued with me. LOL
