Learned from the comments that he has died. I’m so sad. His D major Haydn concerto recording will always be my favourite album. His technique wasn’t always as precise as many a good student’s - but if that’s what I wanted, I wouldn’t go to a concert, I’d download a MIDI file. All that matters is personality, and Lynn Harrell put more personality into his music than any other cellist I know.
