Galvan Euro Nymph reel review

Have had the opportunity to test out the Galvan Euro Nymph reel for a couple months and wanted to share some key specs and benefits with all of you. Enjoy!

I use cortland micron backing 20 lb for trout. Fly line is cortland mono euro nymph line. For the leader I use about 16 feet of 5 lb maxima chameleon to a tippet ring with 6x fluoro

I got it from Tactical Flyfisher. It is deep enough to keep trout wet and has a rubber mesh coating

You mentions the smaller Galvan reel Matched well with a Thomas and Thomas rod in 10’9”. What model rod was that? The contact or contact 2 The 2wt or 3wt? I ask because I’m considering buying the 10’9” 2wt with this Galvan reel and I have to buy over the internet because they are not stocked locally.

I pair it with the contact 2 three weight. It looks like the 2 weight at 10’9 is almost identical weight in ounces to 3 weight. If you wanted something larger arbor I really enjoy the Hardy ultra disc udla as well. You can probably bump up to 4/5/6 at 4.2 oz or 5/6/7 at 4.9 to balance your rig

Serious reel I checked one out a couple weeks ago. Love the fact that it's made in the USA not like the sage esn which is made overseas 👎

Supporting USA is an added bonus. Galvan reels are always superior in my opinion

@@upstreamflyguy4201 the drag adjustment is unbelievable and the quality of the machining is incredible it's definitely on my list for a reel dedicated strictly for euro nymphing. I like the fact that you can add the weight into the reel to accommodate for a longer rod to balance out the setup. Nice review👍👍

How do you add and adjust weights for balancing?

Nevermind. Found the instructions and the GEN Kit. It adds only 0.5 ounces, and it is not adjustable besides having it installed or not. Plus it requires a special tool???

When you explained full frame, shouldn’t you be holding the other section of the reel. Seems you didn’t really know what close frame meant,

They can be ordered in any color, but stock is the gunmetal color.

Once you buy and use a Galvan, you will buy another!

I own 6 of them and a WOULDN'T buy another. Awesome reels with the smoothest startup inertia I've ever used. That includes several Abels with cork drags. Best thing is, there is literally zero maintenance unlike the Abels.
