Gambia pays steep price for poor port infrastructure

The Gambia is paying the price for poor infrastructure at the Banjul River port.
It was once a preferred destination for cargo heading to many West African countries. But with limited space and a shortage of much-needed investment, the port is losing hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue every year.
And as neighbouring countries modernise and expand their operations, there are fears that The Gambia will lose more customers to the competition.
Al Jazeera's Ahmed Idris reports from Banjul, Gambia.

Africa is not a country. It is a continent and there are 54 countries in Africa today. With the 54 countries, there are hundreds if not thousand of different tribal groups. Many of the tribal groups cannot get along well and still fighting each other. There are also religion problems, languages problems, races problems and corruption is beyond imagination in many of the 54 countries. If they can solve all these problems, Africa will rise eventually.

Has The Gambia also entered a deal with the Chinese government (like other African nations) to borrow money to build a port only to forfeit it to the Chinese when Gambia defaults on loan payments? I hope they are smarter than that.
