A really not-so-good Batman game released in 1992, wherein the Batman, hero of Gotham City(TM) must apprehend the Joker for detention in the Arkham Asylum(TM). It's short and the controls are about as good as they look, making the game artificially difficult. Your attack is a wimpy little punch whose hitbox is incredibly small; you can pick up batarangs to throw but about two thirds of the enemies and all but one of the bosses have a way of getting around them or are completely immune, forcing you to take hits to pummel a boss to death or even to progress through a level at times. The best part of the game is easily the wall-jumping/grappling hook-swinging, mastery of which is necessary to get the most power-ups before a boss.
And hey, the music's pretty good, right? -

I remember getting this for my brand new gameboy at the local store in Athens. Still have the complete copy of it, i was blown away by this game, couldn't believe the graphics and the sound ! Still plays great, and I just love to make some occasional speedruns. Best batman game ever for me !

Hello 5 years later :P I agree, even in Arkham Knight, the Opera music that plays when you are near one of the hanging bodies gives me chills it's so creepy

To be fair this game is really damn tricky. You can't play it like most action platformers. Also it sucks donkey shizz from a garden hose.

Damn, I played this a few times as a child and I always remembered the music from the first level. I didn't exactly know what Batman game it was but doing some research tonight led me here.

I like how they made Batman look like the Dark Knight Returns version. I also like how they made him have a lot of animation when he runs and jumps off the walls. He doesn't look stiff like in the animated series gb game. The only issue is collision detection. If they would have touched that up and maybe put more levels, this game would be near perfect.

I like how Dark Claw will swipe away batarangs that try to hit him from his rear, even if Batman is in front of him. He's making sure you don't cheapshot him this way.

The level where you fight the ninja that moves so fast the animation shows multiple frames of him as a kid was the coolest thing ever to me. I had never seen that before and i became obsessed with it in my drawings. I beat this game so many times as a kid and just never got tired of it.

I like how you were trying to be all technical against the Shogun Warrior at first and then suddenly decided that "punch him till I win" is also a legit strategy :D.

This brings me back. I remember being given a grey gameboy cartridge full of about 20 games, including this one, by my cousin as a gift, probably back in 1998 or 99 when I was only a little kid. I got years of fun out of it until I eventually grew out of playing my gameboy, but the music brings me right back, especially the song that plays during the final fight with the joker.

despite alot of people hating this game i actually quite enjoyed it maybe thats because im a huge sunsoft fan. i loved the music and grappling hook gimmick tbh tho if this game had more levels than just four aswell as have more levels designed around the bat hook, controls fixed up a bit, and actually have lives instead of continues this woulda been a classic gameboy game.

The gameplay could’ve been better. It was impossible to kill thugs without getting hit Atleast once. Too difficult for regular kids. The animated series game is so much better

That train level... I learn TODAY that you can hit those "glass" carts for hearts. I always thought of them as restaurant carts that the enemies were too fat to run on because they'd break through the ceiling... Cool.

It's a separate game from Return of the Joker on NES, which is actually known as Dynamite Batman... which is the best Batman game of them all, by the way.

Both this game and the first Sunsoft NES game are excellent Batman games. Return of the Joker on NES is a steaming turd that is NOT a Batman game.

As a kid I thought that the 1st boss was KGBeast, 2nd boss was Ra's in shogun's armour - due to league assassins being there... 3rd boss was Sportsmaster and the last boss was Joker himself.

so many childhood memories. Is there anyone found there are some hidden paths in this game, you can get some items in those hidden paths? You can find them in Stage 2 and stage 4. I found them by accident.

I notice in almost every 2D Batman game he does the wall to wall jump. I always wondered where that was based on, as I never see him do that in movies and shows (I'm not a comic book reader, so I don't know if he also does this in the comics).

I remember I was the first to discover that it's easier to waste all your batrangs before boss and just use punches to beat him because he can block batrangs but not melee.

This game dose seem very hard and precise but on top of continued struggle to see the gameboy screen MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE .
