Bloodborne (and Bloodborne music, of course) has been in my mind lately so today we're FINALLY listening to the highly requested Orphan of Kos theme. It's impressive how much tragedy there is in this one, even for Bloodborne standards.

It sounds like the first part would be more for Kos herself before her death, even sounding like a tense lullaby for her child, and the second part being much more anger-focused and disturbed for the Orphan and it's confused rage harbored by the loss of it's mother. Yeah, i noticed he does that in a bunch of these videos. It's to a point to where he really can't be getting it solely from the music and must've done at least some background research on it. He just goes into too much detail and gets it too spot on.
@feykrosias7613
@feykrosias7613 9 ай бұрын
@@Overqualification nah I disagree. It's true that he keeps 'guessing' the context correctly to some extent, but the way he describes the scene never exceeds the musical context. It may sound magical, but there IS a lot of information that can be expressed solely through music and he explains it reasonably, like dissonance, glory, suspense, sorrow, etc. He simplifies it for the sake of better understanding, but everything makes perfect sense music theory-wise.

Brilliant breakdown as always! The first time I fought the orphan, I was so upset by the orphan's horrible screams that I couldn't listen to the music very well. Then I listened to it again and found it to be an amazing piece. The first part is full of the feeling of despair, as if this mournful baby is carrying all the tragedies of the Bloodborne world, and then in the second part, the vibes become terrifying, it feels like the orphan's despair turns into fierce anger. It left an indescribably powerful impression. Thanks for the video, Davi!

believing he truly doesn’t know the lore while dissecting SoulsBorne boss tracks (& I do Vasc👍) -utterly amazing how he *nails* such parallels of the boss stories. “Wonder if there’s any relevance…” Davi once again; I’m in disbelief the music is THIS connected to what’s going on/what happened As w/Orphan of Kos. This makes *SO* much sense. Kos was most likely cosmically beautiful. But what the hunters did & Kos being pregnant- -chilling! No words. All the times I’ve fought Orphan of Kos I didn’t pay much attention to the track cause he’s so damned brutal & aggressive. -sincerely amazing. Spoilers for the lore: Describing the chord as sad and deformed is fitting and the lament of the female voice likely represents Mother Kos herself, who is physically dead and who’s baby is now, as the name describes, an Orphan without it’s mother. The madness and rage that the song builds up to is the 2nd phase where the Orphan goes from being sad to angry at the player character for hurting it and trying to kill it. The Chord building in anxiety likely represents the Nightmare that the Orphan sustains. The nightmare traps the souls of all Hunters after their death for the crimes committed by the old hunters when they mutilated Kos’ corpse. Great Ones can’t have children as all their children are fated to die. When the old hinters desecrated her corpse they took her unborn child from her and so she “Cursed the fiends, their children too. And their children forever true”. By killing the orphan we free the souls of all the hunters trapped in the nightmare, including the ones who were born after the desecration of Kos and who had nothing to do with it but it isn’t heroic or redemptive. We’re killing a baby that has just been born and who upon coming into the world realized that it’s mother was dead mere moments before it sees our character walking towards it with the intention to kill it. It’s a shitty situation all round but for the sake of all the hunters who have ever lived and for those who had nothing to do with that crime we do what is necessary and in doing so allow the Orphan itself to be free of the nightmare itself and return to the ocean which is “accepting of all that there is and can be”.

disagree slightly with the first bit, I like to interpret the feeling of longing the first phase to be representative of the orphan's longing for his mother and his tragic eternal suffering in the nightmare. The notes droning on in the background in the first phase really emphasise that feeling, like the tragedy and unnecessary suffering in this world has no end to it.

Second phase is definition of the words 'feral' and 'relentless'. To my understanding, the Orphan of Kos is the child of a Great One and one whose mother died before its birth. The fight is you freeing its spirit from an endless nightmare created by the Great Ones to punish the Hunters for the death of Kos.

The Orphan of Kos is a deeply tragic character, when you think about it. It was born to a dead mother, and likely inherited the knowledge of the unspeakable atrocities committed upon said mother and the innocent villagers who worshipped her in peace. It stares at the sun and _cries,_ either from knowing why it even exists, or because it doesn't truly belong in the world by its very nature. Then it turns around and sees a human, dressed and armed exactly like the ones that murdered mother Kos. Being an infant who was only just born, and wielding the closest thing it can find- its own _placenta_ with an iron hook embedded in it- it reacts the only way it knows how: by violently lashing out at the being approaching it. The first phase of the music reflects the pain and despair the Orphan is feeling from being born into a world out to get it *just for existing.* The second phase represents the sheer rage it feels at the world, and of its dead mother for what was done to them.

The one thing that gets me with this fight is that almost any other fight in the game doesn't reset the beginning of the fight, the boss is already waiting and aggressive when you go back through the fog gate. The fact that the Orphan is always standing passively over Kos' until you approach, even when reentering the arena, is so critical to the atmosphere of this fight.

Honestly the song isn't quite complete without the orphan's deranged wails and screams mixed into it. The anguish and madness of the stillborn abomination as it madly trashes around in a blind attempt to murder you with its bloody placenta after crawling from its murdered mother while unpleasant does complete the feel of it all.

i really want to see you break down the song BIG SHOT from the Spamton Neo fight in deltarune, but the song makes sense if you beat the game using multiple routes.

This OST is simply not complete without all the "IARRRGGHHH", "RUAAAARH" and "IIIHHHHH" that send your ears straight to the shadow-realm.
