Chameleos Theme got majorly overhauled in Monster Hunter Rise so this week we'll listen and talk about it! The Theme for Kushala Daora used to be my favorite of the three Elder Dragons, but boy, Chameleos definitely takes that place this time. Amazing how Monster Hunter Rise music continues to impress even after the game's release.

The new rise theme reminds me of silly characters that are powerful but retain the sense of threat. I’m talking characters such as Inosuke, Narancia, Master Khoga, or Samurai Jack villain I can’t remember his name. They are silly characters themselves but demand respect as they either flip to kill mode or they mix their personalities into their fights.

The old version is also good , but the Rise version of Chameleos theme is amazing with both the tricky ,comical vibes and the dignity of the Elder Dragon. I love the transition to a more serious tone in this track. Great observation! At first it does seem like this monster isn't much of a threat with it's strange poses and movements, but you quickly realize how dangerous it really is- that thing basically destroys entire villages while invisible so that nobody has an idea of what's happening! Chameleos it’s kinda of a weird but funny monster. The way he walks and the way he just acts like a jerk because he likes doing it. And the theme adds to the Joking. He’s just a big Dragon that’s actually having a little bit of fun. Then he takes it seriously and that second part shows it.

Hey, something you didn't mention that I find really cool is the sort of discordant high-pitched flute leading up to the first vocal section is extremely evocative of Japanese cinema, specifically to indicate haunted or supernatural places. Which I think really works with Chameleos' "fill the map with mist" attack.

I just can't stop commenting, I'm on a total binge this is so fascinating to me. What you say about the introduction, I'd ask whether you'd consider the harsh heavy action notes to be the actions of you, the hunter, rather than anything to do with the monster. Chameleos is just chilling around the Ruins and scaring the shit out of everyone purely by nature of what it is. The action notes would denote the action of you smacking this, in its opinion, harmless lizard over the face and the cartoony nature afterwards would be his response to that. "Oh you want to play? Sure, let's play hide and seek!"

Can't believe I never noticed those 5-beat measures in there! The 3s and 2s are noticeable but just feel like triplets and a transition mostly. The 5s just blend right in as if they're normal 4/4 measures unless you're counting. Fitting for Chameleos!

So first things first. His theme here is just...I like how he's basically a playful troll and the theme conveys it. He's dangerous, but he's gonna do the wiggle dance and then burp poison before horribly maiming you. Even in his intro video he just messes with the felyne and then thwaps him with his own weapon. I do wanna ask though...I don't think you've done it but I actually have to ask if maybe one day you'd be willing to do vaal hazak's theme. The vale just holds a special place to me. I mean it has blood puppy, megachin, paralyze snake, and meat covered fish dragon. Also the fact the entire map is the corpse of Dalamadur, and has a Lao-Shan Lung skull at the bottom. So hearing a reaction to something from there would be nice. Though all the elders are just intense. I mean look at Shara Ishvalda, Velkhana (who has...just so many themes. Like over 5 remixes of it in game), and Namielle. Too many good songs.

Anyone else firmly believe that The monster (and the fight itself) is as much as a musical instrument as the actual instruments, The Chameleos' song wouldn't work with something like a rajang or Teostra. The most important instrument is the monster itself *Edit: Another example is the Nargacuga's common lunge slashes that perfectly compliment the pace and rhythm of almost every section of the song

I know very little about music theory but to me it sounds as if Chameleos is playing with the Hunter since he knows his mist and invisibility can confuse them. It keeps a bit of tension since he knows he’s being killed which reflects his poison. When the vocals kick in, I feel as if Chameleos has had enough and is now fighting with greater effort while still trying to toy with the Hunter.

@@DaviVasc Im obviously no Expert just some Fan, but for me it felt like it has no Consistency. All little Parts in Isolation sound good, but together it feels like every Part does his own Thing. Sometimes it tryes to be a close Remake to the OG, sometimes you baerly reconize which Song it is, and other Times it had this deep Vocals, who are clearly the old Song but whit a very different Take on it.
