Spent a lot of time with my fishing buddy and a 1.2hp gamefisher. We were young, had little money and my buddy bought it from a pawn shop. First time we took it out it died 100yards out. Turned out the condenser was bad and replaced it with a condenser from a 1948 Ford flathead. Never gave us a issue after that. Wide open for hours on end. Covered a lot of water with that little motor. Always got us back safe and sound in some rough water going into the wind. Something so simple played a big part of fun times as a young guy. After rowing that 1.2hp was a blessing. Seeing this video reminded me of some good times in a simpler time. Thanks for posting this.

Oh man i am suprized that bad boy did not just stand the boat up on its end with all that raw power.

I bought 6 Tanaka outboards over the last year or so. Advertised, ran years ago. Couldn't get it running. I'd buy them from 75.00-150.00. Took cover off. Detail clean whole outboard. Took off all 6 outboard motors carburetors. Q-tip cleaned bing style carbs. Replaced fuel lines. Cleaned filter screens. Teflon taped fuel filter cap. Washed out fuel tank with joy dish soap. Dried tank. Replaced prop oil. Filled with 25/1ratio on my cruise n carry 1.2hp and 2.75hp. Fired up immediately! Runs phenomenal. I bought 2 Game Fisher 3.0hp. One is practically brand new. FedEx employee in Winston Salem had for sale for 75.00. Said his papa bought new at Sears and roebuck and used 2-3 times. Got it running in less than an hour. Amazing motor. Bought a aguabug 1.2hp outboard from gentleman 3hrs away. Got it running in 1hr or less. Love that little motor. Pushes my 80's sun dolphin mini bass boat around philpott lake with ease. And here's the ising on the cake!! Guy in Harrisburg va had a new, never had fuel in it ever. Aguabug 3.0hp outboard with tool kit. 6 bottles of tanaka 2stroke oil. Owners manual etc. Mounted on a hand truck since new. Cream puff condition for 300.00. The most I've payed for outboard. Try buying a 3.0hp mercury or Honda outboard for that. I said all this to say this. Their awesome motors. Purrrr like kittens. Reliable and just a ton of fun. All you need! Nothing like backing up truck in lake loading ramp. Sliding 2man boat in water. Going up in coves. Anchor down. And enjoy life!!! If I catch a fish. Great! If I don't, great!! I'd rather have my sundolphin mini bass or my pelican bass raider than a big, heavy bass tracker any day. Hey, enjoy the short life God gave us. Make memories. I have that motor and the 3hp version, I love them, the 3hp is honestly my favorite out of my collection, air cooled and super simple, first pull to start, hot or cold, not fast, but I have zero fear of failure on the motor. A shame parts are so scarce.

The noisy little guy actually runs pretty nicely. It would make a great little backup motor.

They are so easy to work on. I had the whopping 1.75 and basically did everything to it. One weak spot was the gas filter inside the float bowl, it basically rotted away. The decals all fell off in a hurry but other than that very reliable fun little motor that annoyed the heck outta my neighbours on a Sunday morning. ha ha

I had lost one due to a car accident. Loved the daylights out of it. It fit anywhere.

Woooooo i put 60 hudson river miles on my 3 hp same motor a few years ago . Air cooled tilt her and i could travel through water 16 inches deep .

I see a few of those but they are getting scarse. The only problem I see is the fact they are slow and need a more aggressive propeller. The stock prop is way too small.

Ive got a 3hp with the same decal style, no spark cant tell whether to change the coil or transistor, the only coil available is for motors outside my serial range.

How do you check or fill the lower unit with gear oil?
