I’d add Argentina & the ability to develop the world’s best 10s. Put aside Maradona + Messi, we all know them but there’s also the overlooked Argentinian legend Riquelme. And even to a smaller degree Veron, Dybala, pastore, Banega. They might produce iconic 9s as well but but simply with Messi maradona + Riquelme.. have to be the 10s for Argentina

I think you got the French profile wrong tbh. I think the trait that defines French football is physically dominant midfielders. Vieira, Pogba, Kante, Makelele, even guys today like Tchouameni and Camavinga. Coman and Dembele are two of the best pure wingers in the modern age? Their creative capacity alongside their incredible physical attributes are insane. Injuries have obviously played a part but its insane to suggest they can't hold their own in these suggestions. These were highly touted French talents btw that have had incredible seasons and performances at Europe's top clubs

Neymar for me personally since I grew up watching clips of him during his time at santos and his early barca days where he was nothing but a pure technician honestly watching neymar during his prime bought a certain joy to me that very few players could replicate but obviously you have the likes of Ronaldinho and r9 who are some of the greats but from my perspective I have to go with neymar since he’s the one I watched more closely as well as being one of the superstars of my generation .

As the resident AC Milan fan lol, I don't think you two are that off-base with the whole Maldini v Nesta thing. You guys are in your 20s, so we're all on the younger side here. Baresi literally retired the year I started watching football ('97/98) so most of the stuff I know about him is from footage of old matches, online clips and what my dad said about him growing up. But when it comes to Maldini v Nesta, I think most of my fellow Rossoneri will agree that as a pure defender, Nesta is alongside Baresi as our greatest ever CB. Maldini is a better left back than CB, and I think what goes in his favour is how complete he was. He could play all along the backline, he was excellent defensively and almost as good going forward, he could use both feet, he was the best athlete of them all, he had insane longevity and success at the club, and most importantly, he was captain. So, all in all, who is the better pure defender? In my opinion, Nesta. Who was the better all-around player? Maldini, for sure. Also, I respect Cannavaro a whole lot, but I don't think he chats to the other three guys. The World Cup win & performance and the Ballon d'Or really enhanced his image. Prior to that, he was never considered as good as people like Nesta or Maldini who were winning all the defensive awards (Nesta was Serie A Defender of the Year for 5 years in a row and won multiple UEFA awards). Cannavaro was still fantastic, though, don't get me wrong, and he deserves credit for playing at Parma for almost a decade, even a couple of years after all the other great players from that club like Veron, Buffon, Thuram, Chiesa, Crespo, etc had left. Costacurta and Tassotti had to play alongside some of these guys and probably get a little overshadowed, but they're both in a top 20 defenders of all time list, too. They have to be. I think the most underrated defender of all time, however, is Gianluca Zambrotta. When people talk about the greatest full-backs, sometimes they ignore this guy. Again, maybe because he played alongside people like Maldini, Nesta, Cannavaro, etc.. but he is one of the most complete RBs I've ever seen. The only defender from the last decade or so that can even be mentioned in the same breath as these guys is Chiellini.

World-class defenders were terrified of this guy because not only did he have the skill and the tech, he also had insane pace and power, and during his prime he embarrassed pretty much all of them at one point or another, whether it was Maldini, Costacurta, Nesta, Thuram, Desailly, Cannavaro, etc... No player in history (at least not since R9) has had that effect on people. Not even a wizard like Messi.

@@toonyjr2393 Nobody is saying that Neymar is a bad player, but he is below Ronaldinho, R9, and Rivaldo in my opinion, i also think it`s quite ironic, you`re telling someone to watch football, when you`re entire argument for Neymar is largely about his stats, Neymar might have better dribbling stats then Ronaldinho, if you watch Ronaldinho and R9 play they both did things with a football that was far more difficult then what Neymar does. Watch him play with your eyes and not on paper and you'll see how many of those hollywood tiktok highlight passes he tries and how many he makes, it's spooky bruv

@@Guestownedu the degree of difficulty of Kdbs passes are different to some like Xavi, that’s why everyone appreciates his vision and technique. Its easy bopping around 50 yards away from goal but when you’re closer to goal everything is harder… you could say Ozil is one of the best passers ever and you’d be correct

@@Prime1Wunna Yes they're difficult passes but when you have 10 - 15 chances a game to make that pass you're eventually gonna make it, nobody shows the amount hes misplaced is my issue, all you have to do is watch him play for 90 minutes and you'll see what I'm saying. Someone like ozil got those cutting edge passes from A to B at a higher rate, with less chances to make said pass in a team with less runners (Arsenal). He was magic, he created out of nothing. De Bruyne is all about volume, keep trying until it sticks. Look at the game against Chelsea, same cross 15 times and he got one right which haaland missed. Yes, great pass but what about the other 14 he misplaced. Obviously city are such a dominant team they can afford to have a player just keep playing the final ball like that but don't start comparing him to the best passers ever.

might sound like a hot take to a lot of y'all but in my opinion, chiellini is the best defender of all time, and I only have ramos on his tier all time because of the all the other elite stuff ramos was doing, Nesta has an argument of course, but was too injury prone in my opinion, cannavaro's career too short, and the hottest take here is that maldini gets a bit overrated, the man was a pretty damn good defender, but get boosted by fans because of his leadership, "aura", the dude looked like a model and was on a winning team so many people just made him more mythical than he really is, I got no takes on baresi or beckenbauer, shouts out to thiago silva though.

For me, In terms of being a metronome nobody comes close to Xavi, he was literally like a manager on the field (hence why he’s gone on to become a manager post retirement) and everything went through him I still remember watching him against Ireland at Euro 2012 when he made something like 900 passes in one game (the entire Irish team only made 190) however in terms of a final ball to actually get an assist and set up a goal, that wasn’t his forte. In terms of final ball for me it’s between Cesc Fabregas and Juan Mara, Cescs speed of thought in the final third and ability to spot runs was unmatched, everybody remembers his famous assist to Andre Schurlle against Burnley in the first game of the 14/15 season, however Mata for me was one of the best I’ve seen in terms of dead ball delivery, crossing, and generally creating chances. In terms of long distance passing it’s gotta be either Xabi Alonso or Thiago Alcantara, I think Xabi has that low driving technique on lock, I know we’re not taking long shots into account but it’s the same technique he used to score those halfway line goals for Liverpool, Thiago is also elite when it comes to deceiving opponents with his eyes and slipping passes through the lines.
