It don't make sense by the numbers. If Dani's daddy was Mad King (late 60's), and Jon's momma was Leanna (Eddard's sister, early 20's), that makes Dani at least 20 years older than Jon. Whoever begat who don't even matter. It just wouldn't happen, that's all.

They had children around the same time but the Mad King was probably 40ish years older than Lyanna, as you've mentioned. Men can conceive children pretty old, as we know. Rhaegar (Dany oldest brother, jon's father) was something like 25ish when he died during robert's rebellion, but Lyanna must have already been pregnant with Jon. Dany wasn't born yet when her brother was killed, she was conceived in the last month of Robert's rebellion and then her mom went to Dragonstone for safety. Then the Mad King was also killed at the end of Robert's rebellion, but his wife was already pregnant and Dany was born after he was killed. So they are roughly the same age, Jon is actually supposed to be just a couple months older. Sorry for the long-winded response, and I'm not 100% on the fine details, but that's the gist of it. So Dani definitely isn't 20 years older than Jon, she's a couple months younger.

But the point is that Jon isn’t his son, but the son of his son, Rhaegar (who was born when Aerys was 14) daenerys was not born until 284 AC after the end of Robert’s rebellion. Jon was born in 283 AC to Lyanna stark ( born in either 266 or 267, and dead in 283 at either 17 or 18) and Rhaegar Targaryen, the then 25 year old son of The mad king. The timeline works out completely, even by the numbers. Now, the GoT timeline compared to the books does nothing but increase the ages.

madanevs I think people get confused because they don’t pay much attention to the fine historical details. Like you’d have to have been paying mind during the times they explain that reghar was the mad kings son and that he “kidnapped” Ned’s sister etc. some people are just in it for the more self explanatory stuff and sometimes family trees can be a bit confusing.
