As Martin writes in The Hedge Knight: "Other great houses might choose to bury their dead in the dark earth or sink them in the cold green sea, but the Targaryens were the blood of the dragon, and their ends were writ in flame." That is to say, every member of House Targaryen was cremated, and their ashes were buried in Dragonstone or Baelor's cathedral. In the history of House Targaryen there are many cases of fire deaths: + There are many deaths from fire and burns in the battle The Dance of the Dragons I won't mention here to avoid spoiler + Prince Aerion Bright Fire: died from drinking a cup of wild fire. + King Aegon V and firstborn Duncan: perished in the Summerhall Fire. + Beggar King Viserys III: dies when Drogo wears a crown of molten gold. + Queen Daenerys: when Drogon swoops down to the Daznak's Pit arena, it first spits fire at Dany, but when it realizes its master stops. Dany had a skin burn. + And some others I don't remember clearly. In an interview about Daenerys not being burned in the flames at the end of season 1 of the series and in book 1-AGOT of the novel, as well as the Targaryen fire resistance, author GRRM stated that very many people are confused about this (Fire does not kill the Targaryens) and he is grateful for the opportunity to confirm it is completely false and insists: THE TARGARYEN PEOPLE are NOT FIRE RESISTANCE. The case of Daenerys hatching 3 dragons is unique, it's magic. Daenerys is called Unburnt (cannot be burned) because she stepped into the fire and survived. And he also emphasized that Daenerys will NEVER repeat the miracle again. Daenerys used blood magic and sacrificed her husband, son, and witch to hatch three dragon eggs, the case Daenerys burning the Khals alive in ss6 was invented by Dumb & Dumber, and it upsets the author because it misleads people about Daenerys

Some fun facts about this episode (no spoilers for further stuff): 1) They cut a scene of Daemon consoling his daughters after his wife's death, it's in the behind the scenes content on HBOMax (House the Dragons Built, Ep. 6). So he is affectionate, they just cut it out. 2) When Ser Harwin (Rhaenyra's baby daddy) left for Harrenhall where he later burnt to death, he told her that next time they meet will be as strangers. Stranger means death in the Faith of the Seven. So next time they meet he would be dead. Of course he didn't mean it in that way, but it's nice symbolism. 3) Vhagar (the dragon who burnt Laena during childbirth) is the oldest living she-dragon of the Targaryens. She is around 180 years old at this point. She was the dragon of the conqueror Aegon Targaryen's sister, Visenya Targaryen, one of the three original Targaryens who came to the continent and conquered it and also the conquerors wife (one of them). Vhagar is the only surviving dragon from that time and thus also the biggest. She is now the size of Balerion (the conqueror's dragon, whose skull we previously saw). Laena (Daemon's wife) was Vhagar's third rider and she claimed her at age 15 (so around the time of the last episode). 4) Another fun moment to keep in mind is when Alicent's daughter princess Helaena speaks of the millipede and says Aemond has to close an eye to ride a dragon, just subtly in the background. Keep that in mind for the future episodes. :) 5) The Dragon, Vermax, that we saw Jacaerys (Rhaenyra's son) tame and give commands to at the dragonpit has been trained by him since he was little. 6) The dragon in the dragonpit who you said was pretty but terrifying (that Alicent's son went to see) is Dreamfyre. She should by this point be the dragon of Helaena, Alicent's daughter and is also rumored to be the mummy of Daenerys' dragons. 7) The window Aegon did his thing in seems to be the same Tommen fell out of xD.

By the way, Targarysns are not "fire proof" like Dany was in Game of Thrones, that was just a show thing. In the books, she used magic to survive the fire/hatch dragons. The second time she did it, when she burned the Dothraki leaders doesn't happen in the books, again just a show thing. Targaryens can die by fire.

So the thing is with the whole “fire doesnt kill Targaryens” is that its not true. Benioff and Weiss made that a reoccurring thing for Dany in the show but in the books Dany only survives being in fire ONCE and that was the birth of her dragons as that was an entire magical event. Even George mentioned that Targaryens aren’t immune to fire and even called out the show version lol. So yeah considering this show is being more faithful to the source material you can chuck that whole “immune to fire” detail out the window.
@Alejojojo6
@Alejojojo6 Жыл бұрын
They arent inmuned in the books but still are resistant to heat. In the book's first episodes, Daenerys is seeing getting inside a bath that was way too hot and she wasnt burned. Same holding warm eggs (She is still not inmuned to fire itself) but she got the nickname "The one that doesnt burn" and from there the showrunners made the assumption. Anyways, the one burning is Laena which is not a true full-Targaryen. Viserys after all got burn by the golden crown too. So just as premonitions, it might be a "power" that only some Targaryens have.

HOTD is going to contradict many things the GOT tv show did I feel, simply because the showrunner of HOTD, Ryan Condal, said that their #1 top priority is adapting GRRM's book and surrounding lore, not matching up to the GOT tv show. And D&D either changed, threw out, or ignored a lot of that lore regarding magic and the Targaryens.
@Rocket1377
@Rocket1377 Жыл бұрын
@Alex: As a rule, Targaryens are NOT completely resistant to heat. Daenerys's brother Viserys is the best example of that. The molten gold would not have burned and killed him if he was completely heat-proof. Dany surviving her funeral pyre was unique (and it was supposed to be a one-off magical event) so things like Dany not being scalded by her bathtub was something the tv showrunners simply misinterpreted and exaggerated.

Actually, Rhaenyra's rightful home should've been on Dragonstone all along, the heir to the throne is supposed to reside as Princess of Dragonstone. Rhaenyra taking Laenor's "the wise flee the storm while it gathers" thing was a really bad move. In case you haven't caught that (since they cut so much of it, thank you very much fast pacing), Laena's dragon is Vhagar. You know, the one one of Aegon's sisters rode when they conquered Westeros, a super old dragon, of whom Laena talked about on episode 2 with Viserys, saying Vhagar was alone and sad. It just makes Laena's death even sadder, since Vhagar found company and partnership with Laena again, and ended up killing her as an act of mercy. Also, Vhagar is a she-dragon.

People give Alicent the benefit of the doubt by saying that she has been influenced since she was a teen and there are people in her ear, which is true, but the same is true for Rhaenyra. She was also a teen when she took on Daemon's advice that she can "have her cake and eat it too" so to speak, so she marries Laenor for show and carries on pursuing her interests in secret. She had an absent father who married her best friend and only confidant, so it was really only Daemon she had to look up to. And she took his advice. I feel that Daemon shaped her more than anyone else, and she found a way to do her duty while living her life, but it doesn't come without consequences. Especially because she is a woman and Alicent is in many ways the antithesis of her, bound by duty.

I love the contrast between Rhaenyra and Alicent as mothers Alicent does everything to scare the shit out of Aegon and all she cares about is that he should be the king; she's absolutely disinterested in Helaena's hobby, bored by her even, she doesn't know how to talk to her own daughter; the only way she knows how to comfort Aemond is to basically turn him against Rhaenrya's boys Even is previous episodes, everytime she was holding her babies they were crying Rhaenyra never wanted to be a mother, but she loves her children fiercely She knows exactly how to comfort Jacaerys and he and Lucerys adore her, it's clear. Even in extreme pain, she smiles the moment she sees Joffrey, who goes quiet in her arms instantly When she sees that her boys lives are in danger, she tries to form a pact with an enemy, even shows weakness , rather than start a war that may cost her children's lives. She gives up her position just for her boys to be safe, far away from court Meanwhile Alicent refuses the truce with Rhaenyra, and does everything to start that war, just out of pure spite

Low cunning moment for the twirling mustache villain in a poorly written and scripted story. If this was game of thrones there is about a %0 chance he would have been able to get away with this if he executed it in such a sloppy and poorly planned way. Where to start? How would he have been able to release those people from prison? He's in no position of power. The city watch would have ratted to someone. The lord commander, his brother, father, the princess, the king or the queen. Anyone in a position of power. Daemon, the crown prince and commander of the city watch maiming people got back to the king and the small council quickly from dozens of sources. This guy does it on no authority and not a peep?? Next, how did a large group of tongueless people in shady cloaks casually get close to harrenhall, walk into harrenhall then set it on fire without at least some getting caught? Trained assassins? Sure some may have slipped through. However these people were living in a cage and then brutally had their tongues cut out. I find it a stretch to go from that to Jaqen H'ghar. This would have been believable if they showed him secretly hiring a faceless man to do it instead of that long drawn out scene of him maiming common criminals.

And this whole episode reinforces my belief that hereditary hierarchies cause 90% more harm than good to both “royal” families and the societies they are supposed to rule. Also as sad as it was I would’ve made the same choice as Laena made, not only is it a quick death but I would rather have it be said that it took a dragon incinerating me to kill me. As for Larys, he might be even worse than Littlefinger. Baelish was extremely ambitious and didn’t care who got in his way, but he still cared for Catlyn and her daughters. He even felt extreme guilt after finding out what Ramsey Bolton did to Sansa. For the very first time in my life, I'm glad they changed a scene from what happened in the books in a TV show. Letting Laena see Vhagar one more time and choose her way of going, as a dragon rider by fire. I liked that, I liked that very much. In the book she only attempts to go to Vhagar and Daemon finds her at a bottom of the stairs and carries her back to bed. They did a beautiful thing changing that.

Nah, her death was way better in the book imo. This is the first change I'm really not a fan of. Her wanting to ride one last time and dying on the way is a lot more tragically beautiful (and also more logical) than her somehow outrunning Daemon and making it all the way to Vhagar before being immolated. Also a scene of Daemon carrying her corpse back could have been far more powerful than him just staring at her getting burned.

Here is a show only summary of the dragons as we should know them so far: 1. Syrax is Rhaenyra’s and has only been in the first 2 episodes 2. Caraxes is Daemon’s and has been in all but episode 105 so far. His long neck makes him very distinguishable. 3. Seasmoke is Laenor’s and has been seen twice. 4. Meleys is Rhaenys’s red dragon. We’ve only seen her once so far. 5. Vhagar was Laena’s dragon and is the biggest and oldest dragon around. There was a scene cut from 103 which would have shown Laena claim her. 6. Vermax is Jacaerys’s dragon that cooked (and certainly ate) the sheep in the dragon pit. 7. The dragon that Aemond was approaching is Dreamfyre, who hatched the egg that Daemon tried to steal in 102. It is not known if Dreamfyre has a rider yet. In addition the dragons we’ve seen, we have heard about a couple of others. They established that Aegon has tamed Sunfyre, but did not say explicitly that he’s been ridden yet. They also said that Baela (one of Daemon’s twins) has a dragon, but they didn’t say its name yet. We also saw Joffrey get an egg, and it was implied that Lucerys has a dragon that has hatched as Aemond is the only dragon-less boy so far.

Emma d’arcy and Olivia Cooke prove any doubters that they are phenomenal in the roles that Milly and Emily layed the ground work for in the first 5 episode! Phenomenal acting from both. 2. Only a minute in and Aegon ii is already a little S*** head but that’s a good thing and Ty does a good job as well. 3. A lot of birth giving in this episode and possibly the most tragic episode of this season. I actually felt bad for Leana wow. 😞 4. The intensity between Alicent and Rhaenyra is unfolding and done pretty well. You can tell Rhaenyra us trying to hold it in at the council meeting when she apologized. Fantastic execution so far.

Daemon in reality is a loving father. After Laena died, they shot a scene with Daemon hugging his two daughters, but for some reasons the scene got cut. But there are images of it on twitter! They changed lots of stuff about Daemon/Laena from the books, unfortunately, it was a happy marriage. 💔 Ps: Rhaenyra's kids are bastards, but the Velaryon recognized and legitimized Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey as true sons of Laenor. So they officially are Velaryon with all the titles & rights. It's not the same as Cersei; Joffrey was a bastard and Cersei tried to put him on the throne, but he didn't have any right, because he had no Baratheon's blood from his father. The throne was the Baratheon's and Joffrey had no Baratheon blood. Cersei tried to stop the accusations her children were bastards, because otherwise they wouldn't have right on the throne. Rhaenyra's position is different. First of all, she's the named heir and Westeros law specifically says that only the named heir from the King can ascend the Iron Throne (usually the King names his firstborn son his heir, but Viserys never named Aegon heir). Plus Rhaenyra's children do have their mom's Targaryen blood: Rhaenyra is the named heir to the Iron Throne and her kids do have HER blood. So they inherit through their mom's blood. As I mentioned before, the fact that they are bastards is just a rumored that it can't be proved anymore, the Velaryon legitimized them and gave them their surname, so they officially are not bastards. It's as if Ned passed Jon for Catelyn's son and recognized him as a Stark. If the Lord of the house legitimizes the kid, the kid is no bastard officially. Only the King can change that and Viserys never did and never proclaimed Aegon as heir. All the Lords of the realm bent the knee and swore an oath of fealty to Rhaenyra, they owe her obedience until their death. You can't get out of an oath of fealty. If the Lord of the hpuse swore, all the members of that house are bound by that oath and Hightowers swore to Rhaenyra and now they are committing treason.

It doesn’t matter if Rhaenyra’s children can legally claim the throne. “Power resides where men believes it resides.” It’s all about perception. It also doesn’t matter who bent the knee to what oath. How many times have we seen this oath broken throughout the GOT series? It’s perception. You already have half the kingdom against having a female Targaryen in power. So if it flows down to the men, half the kingdom is going to side with Aegon and not a perceived bastard in Jacaerys.

@@liiliies_ For the record, I didn’t read the books but I did view some videos on the upcoming Civil War so {spoiler alert}, I do know Rhaenyra has a lot of allies (esp the North). But the fact of the matter is - there’s still a civil war and she doesn’t have everyone’s backing. And quite frankly, when dragons are involved, it’s not going to matter much if you have 2/3 the human allies or Alicent has 2/3 the human allies. The war will shift and turn according to how the dragons perform. But my point was based on a “I’m living at the present time and I can’t foresee the future (or ending of the book)” point of view. And whereas you are firm with your viewpoint that Rhaenyra was named heir and her children have Targaryen blood so it’s legitimate, and everyone else is thus, committing treason - I’m simply saying it’s a lot more complicated than that, that perception (or in modern times, PR or propaganda) is a major factor to consider and from the viewpoint of Alicent/Rhaenyra, one can’t foresee who the peoples of the kingdom are going to support.

34:36 Targaryens are not immune to fire. The previous show just decided that Daenerys was, for some reason (which is not the case in the books). But many Targaryens have been burned and died of fire, both regular fire and dragon fire. Even in the show, we see Jon for example burning his hand in Season 1, and Dany's brother dies from molten gold. Joffrey also tells Margaery about Aerion Targaryen who died drinking wildfire. Yes, in the show it is pretty straightforward that she is fire resistant when she pulls the trick in Vaes Dothrak, but in the books she also has a second occasion of a similar kind, when she flees the Pit of Daznak on Drogon’s back.
