DarkSideOfTheMe I catch you, I've learned piano at a conservatory, and a good exercise is take the sheet and try to number each note until you think it's the easier way to play it, and try no repeating the same finger twice, may be it's necessary, but try it.

I guess I'm too late. But, I faced the same problem. Then after hours and hours of playing, I discovered rules. Here are my rules- 1. Try not to play such that adjacent fingers overlap or cross each other. It's okay at times if the thumb and the index finger overlap. 2. When you play a note with your thumb and there's more notes beyond that, use your middle finger. You might use your ring finger, but very rarely. 3. For a three note chord, start with pinky for the lowest note and then index for the middle one and thumb for the last note. If there's another note, then after the thumb use your middle finger (Rule 2!). After following these rules, it felt like I was playing more naturally and my fingers were not in a compromised position.
